Rietz family gave us a wonderful reception and a cute fully furnished cottage gave us a peace of mind. It is quiet, walking distance to the shops around the corner, 5 minutes drive to Borrowdale shopping centre and 10-15 minutes drive to the City Centre.
As there is power shortages, load shading is rife but we never realized it because of the Power Generator that is available for use if needed. -

A pleasant and cosy cottage, laid out to accomodate 1-4 persons and with all necessary amenities. Practical with supermarket etc next door. Friendly owners and staff. Only minus is the somewhat erratic power supply.

Unfortunately Zimbabwe experiences load shedding from time to time according to how well the national power stations are operating. We can experience a couple of power cuts per week, however previous guests have stayed over two weeks and have had no power cuts during their stay whatsoever. Our cottage is fitted with battery lights, which give adequate lighting in case of power cuts, there is also a gas stove which ensures that guests are able to cook regardless of the electrical supply. Further to that a generator is available for a small extra charge of $2.50 per half hour, should a guest request it be switched on. We strive to make our guests comfortable and are well equipped for power cuts and they should be of minimal inconvenience.

Left on 10/20/2010 for a stay in September 2010
My wife and I stayed for 4 days at the beautiful Ballantyne Park cottage belonging to Kurt and Pauline Rietz. From the moment we arrived we were overwhelmed by the wonderful hospitality of the Rietz family and the graciousness of the surrounding home and gardens.
The stunning cottage itself is fully equipped to accommodate both couples and families and the shopping centre and restaurant, being only a couple of minutes walk away, is very convenient. -

As a regular visitor to Zimbabwe from the UK, I have looked forward to staying at Mrs Rietz's accommodation.
The location is set close to Borrowdale, an affluent and pleasant neighbourhood in the Harare suburbs, with a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafes a mere 5 minutes drive away. The city centre is only 10 to 15 mins down the Borrowdale road which makes tending to business a breeze.
The actual accommodation is set in the original Ballantyne farm homestead, I believe, which brings with it the charm of history and large spacious rooms. Staff are friendly and the owners are always keen to assist with any particular local information you may need.
The best part is you can really relax there, probably because of the secluded nature of the property and the fact that you are surrounded by magnificent Msasa hardwoods.
