Terry's Bayside Getaway is located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean in the picturesque community of Harbour Main on Conception Bay, Newfoundland. This former family home has been lovingly restored by family members, whose grandfather built the house in 1927. The result has been called "charming", and "a jewel", by recent guests. St. John's, NLOne of our best family vacations!
Left on 02/04/2013 for a stay in August 2012
Our 2 weeks at this lovely home was a memorable occasion for our family. Because of its location and what the home and property have to offer we can see why it is so popular for those travelling to this part of the island. However, we wanted a place closer to home in St. John's where our family could gather and easily work around their busy schedules.
The house is beautifully decorated but more importantly you felt that you could "live" in it comfortably. We really liked the divided bathroom upstairs - a big dressing/shower room and a half bathroom. The half bathroom downstairs next to the back door/patio as well as the lovely big kitchen were great additions.
The property has a huge grassy area for games, a patio and an extra fire pit area at the end of the property for roasting "smores" in the evening. The swimming hole is within a short walking distance and is wonderful for children and hiking through Harbour Main proved that it and others around it are some of the prettiest and friendliest communities around.
Brian and Joanne were wonderful and when they did come to mow the lawn they made you feel like they were visiting you in your home - what more could you ask for?
Our little grandson keeps asking "when are we going to the big blue house again?" so needless to say we have booked it again for this summer.
Thank you Brian and Joanne for Terry's Bayside Getaway!

Charlevoix MichiganA beautiful home in an amazing province.

My one month vacation at Terry's Getaway in Harbour Main Newfoundland is coming to a close. This has been a glorious month of September in many ways. The location allows access to all of the avalon Peninsula and all it has to offer. The house is across the street from a beautiful cove and it is amazing to wake up in the morning and look out at it. It is very comfortable and has every amenity possible. The two decks and beautiful landscaping makes it as nice to be outside as in. Everything promised in their write up is right on target.
Brian and Joanne are available yet not intrusive. It is important to them that our needs and wants were met. The experience of Hurricane Leslie allowed us to experience first hand the friendliness of Newfoundlanders. Neighbours with a power generator brought us hot soup, hot water for tea, banana bread and bottled water...so appreciated.
I highly recommend that anyone considering a trip to Newfoundland hopes that there is availability here. You will be very very glad if you have the opportunity to stay here. -

This home was absolutely ideal! It was very comfortable, charming, well-equipped and felt like "home" immediately. The spacious yard, beautiful gardens, decking, BBQ were much appreciated. Nothing was over looked. The views from the house onto the harbour were breath-taking. there are some great hiking trails close by and lots to do in the immediate vicinity.

We stayed at Terry's Bayside Getaway in Harbour Main, Newfoundland for most of the month of September, and we were sad to leave. It truly felt like our home away from home. The house has a feeling of warmth and family and memory. Many of the original 1927 features have been maintained, and modern conveniences have been added which help to make the house even more comfortable. The house is tastefully decorated including many of the original Terry family antiques. There are beautiful flower beds and a large yard with two decks to enjoy the gorgeous weather that September offered us. Our hosts were very accommodating and gracious and made sure that we had everything we needed.
Harbour Main is one of the prettiest communities in Newfoundland, and the people who live here are welcoming and friendly. It is a short trip to many other interesting outports and sights as well as to the city life of St. John's. We highly recommend this lovely vacation home and we would be happy to come back to visit again any time.

St. John'sWhat a great family vacation destination!
Left on 09/12/2011 for a stay in September 2011
First impression of the property was the amount of space in the house: large kitchen/prep space, lots of dishes/cutlery/pots/pans/utensils, nice living and dining rooms, comfortable bedrooms and adequate bathrooms. There was only one shower among the 3 bathrooms and while this didn't present a problem when staying 3 days it could be a problem over a longer period.
Major features of the property are to be found outdoors on the beautiful deck around the house and the fire pit in the back of the garden. We had a great time in those spaces. Another convenience that was great for family fun was the entertainment centre in the living room. We had a great family Karioke time our last night.
This is a top notch vacation site. It is just across the street from the sea and there is a conveniencce store literally around the corner of the house. -

I don't think you could ask for more. We used the Terry's Bayside Getaway as our gateway to explore the avalon Peninsula and it was fantastic. We had our 8 yr old son with us so we used our 10 day stay to alternate between relaxation & exploration. Summer is a bummer for a kid if spent driving in car, so one day was used to explore all of the attractions near-by, while the next day was used to visit all of the beauty that is Newfoundland & the avalon Peninsula. The "Tide" is a one minute walk to a great cooling place to swim. With the Bay across the street, a short hike took us to the open sea, incredible plant life and on consecutive days, we even saw whales eating Caplin. The Salmonier Nature Park is only 30 minutes away, and fantastic for kids young and old. My son couldn't take his eyes off the wildlife, and I was blown away by the plants. From Harbour Main, we visited all of the major sights, Mistaken Point, Cape St.Mary's bird sanctuary, St.Johns fine dining, music & night life, Bay Bull's for up close whale watching, Portugal Cove for the best fish & chips and so much more. At night we relaxed over a cold drink and a home made meal or Bar-b-Que. It is so peaceful and quite, a deep sleep is assured. For a family that has traveled extensively, this was a vacation that we will always treasure. All is made possible by the warm comforts of the Terry family home and the Terry family. A better value, I don't think can be found.
Thanks again. -

This is a truly spacious, wonderful, welcoming home-away-from home! It has character, warmth, turn-of-the-century charm and all modern amenities. The home is clean, the bed are comfortable and the ocean is just across the road. The back deck is a great spot for breakfast or to bbq up some supper and relax. This location is perfect for exploring St John's, the avalon coast and the Conception Bay area. There is also plenty to do in the area around the cottage. We rented for three nights and we could easily have stayed a week, there is so much to do and see. Brian and Joanne are terrific hosts - very friendly, personable and prompt in responding to all our questions. We would recommend this rental to anyone.

Terry's Bayside Getaway is a wonderful place for a weekend away. It has all the comforts of a home in the city located in the beautiful community of Harbour Main. I spent a May 24th weekend there with my 2 kids, a close friend and her daughter. We found the house to be spacious and comfortable, there's a well stocked kitchen and pantry, a big screen TV linked to the internet (this was a big hit for the kids and teens!), the bedrooms were cozy and there was a large deck on the back. The private yard has several old barns that added to the charm of the place. The interior has original decorative mouldings, staircase and wainscotting and is beautifully furnished with antiques and decorated with family mementos. This really adds to the charm of the home and we were delighted to speculate on the identities of the photos and learn a bit about the history of the house and community. This is a treasure to find for a relaxing weekend away!

The house and grounds are beautiful. The house retains old charm while having all the mod-cons. Everything was very, very clean. Lots of dishes and cooking utensils in the well-equipped kitchen, along with some basic supplies for cooking. The bathrooms are very modern with lots of style. Washer and dryer is a great perk not available at many vacation rentals. Use of the computer and internet access was handy. The property is immaculate with a lovely deck and landscaping. The area is stunning and so close to St. John's, commuting back and forth is no problem. We cancelled our hotel stay in St. John's to extend our stay at Terry's Bayside Getaway. This is a secret gem, soon to be not-so-secret once word gets out.
