Alexandria, VAMixed Bag - Uncomfortable Beds - No firewood
Left on 03/27/2013 for a stay in January 2012
This place looked nice when we arrived. It was night time and the inside had small white Christmas lights on the artificial evergreen tree as well as wound around grapevines adorning a couple of walls.
But, there is not a comfortable bed in this house. As I recall, the beds are full size and the linens are old and shabby, without being chic. Every available countertop was packed with bric-a-brac making it feel clausterphopic. There was not cut firewood and it was freezing - we hunted and gathered wood all around the place to keep the place warm. There is a charming, glass-enclosed porch that is freezing and overstuffed with uncomfortable furniture and bric-a-brac. It also felt musty. This place needs to be cleaned and cleared out of old, crappy linens and about 2/3 of the bric-a-brac. The furniture needs to be updated to justify someone paying for a "retreat" and having any expectation that it will be at least as nice as the home you left to go there. I found it to be a great disappointment at a time when a promised "romantic getaway" was sorely needed. What this place needs is someone who knows what hospitality is.Response from Sam and Bobby Ericsson - 04/18/2013
Owner
I am so sorry for this person's unhappy experience at my cabin! In about 5 years of renting 3 cabins here, this is the very first dissatisfied guest I have ever had, as you can see from my approximately 60 five star reviews here and at vrbo.com/296903 and homeaway.com/904045, the two other sites where I list. As a matter of fact, I'm doubting this is even my cabin that the guest is reviewing, as their stay was well over a year ago and they did not leave a name. Several of the things they mentioned do not exist at my cabin. There is an open deck; not a glassed in porch. The extra linens in a dresser are all folded in sets and tied with grosgrain ribbon. The linens on the beds are egyptian cotton. I have replaced the two standard mattresses on the 2 futons with the thick 6 inch mattresses. The cabin is not heated with wood; there is forced air heat and central air conditioning throughout, so it's impossible for the cabin to be cold unless the guest failed to turn the thermostat to their desired setting, but I always have it set on 70 for their arrival. There is a fireplace but not as a primary heat source. There is a huge supply of wood under the deck for the fireplace. I'm right in the neighborhood and stop by early in every guest's visit to make sure all is well. Telephone numbers for a handyman, my cleaning lady and myself are posted on the refrigerator for any difficulty that might arise. I receive extensive praise for my hospitality as you can see in my many other reviews, as I have a bottle of wine, loaf of homemade bread, chocolates, soft music and electric candles throughout the cabin awaiting every arrival. I have instructions for tourist attractions, restaurants, and shopping, and offer any advice my guests might desire. I also receive extensive compliments for the decor as I have interesting antiques and works of art from local artists displayed which are generally appreciated. The cabin certainly is not cluttered, as you can see from the extensive pictures, and is very roomy; I can't imagine anyone feeling claustrophobic. My cleaning lady is exceptionally good! My deepest apologies to whoever this guest happens to be. I'm so sorry you did not alert me to your disappointment. -

Nacogdoches, Texashospitality and atmosphere was above and beyond
Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We had our vacation planned when the bad weather hit west virginia and the power was out. We were so kindly treated while being allowed to stay at the home anyway while all other hotels with power were booked. Ms. Bobby Ericsson went way out of her way to make sure we got there safely having us follow her there, communicating with us all the way, bringing us jugs and jugs of water. Her place is in the beautiful mountain terrain and is so welcoming. A great place to stay with plenty of room and sweetness tucked in! If only we had gotton to remain there, although just in that experience it was a special time our family shared together in the after effects of the storm. I would certainly recommend staying there! We were very touched and blessed by the owner who cared very much! ps. loved the chocolate and bread too!

We had a great long weekend at Inn at Long Last. Relaxing, quiet and fun for everyone. Close to nearby attractions. We had everything we needed close at hand. A very comfortable fit for all ages. It was good to get away and spend some time with family members in a new setting. The arts festival was wonderful, Harpers Ferry was interesting and we enjoyed exploring Shepherdstown while others were kayaking.
Upon entering the cabin we felt welcomed right away. Bobby stopped over to greet us and offered some helpful suggestions for our weekend. The wine and chocolate treats were an added bonus. -

I met my family at "The Inn at Long Last" over the Christmas holiday. I was immediately impressed with the warmth and comfy atmosphere in this cabin. Prior to arriving and in anticipation of our holiday vacation, I would look at this place via the internet and I must say that pictures do not do it justice!!! We had that added beauty of snow on the ground. My kids had an absolute blast playing in the snow on the mountainous terrain. You would never know they were born and raised in Florida! I can only imagine the spring is just as breathtaking. Great place for any occasion.

My Family and I really enjoyed our stay. This home was so cozy and a perfect get away from the city. There was a real mountain cabin feel to it. The Fireplace was fabulous and wonderful to get close to after coming in from the snow. Plan on coming back in the future!!

The Inn at Long Last was a beautiful and very comfortable cabin, thoughtfully appointed with fantastic views. Bobby and Sam made 3 friends and myself feel very much at home during our weekend getaway -- even helping us get our cars out after a big snowstorm! We felt like family.

We arrived at night to a warm cabin with music, holiday lights, and fresh bread
on the table. The view of the mountain valley was wonderful and the cabin was
very comfortable, with many quilts, a fireplace, and a good kitchen. The owner
was extremely helpful with all of our logistical arrangements. I would certainly
return!

Washington, DCBeautiful property, with incredible hosts
Left on 12/07/2009 for a stay in December 2009
From the minute we walked into this inviting cottage, we felt welcomed and relaxed. It was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed for a perfect weekend in the mountains. The hosts left a welcome snack for us - especially appreciated after a Friday night drive. While giving us lots of space and privacy, the hosts made sure we were completely comfortable and had everything we needed. An easy drive from DC (just 1.5 hours) - would definitely return for either a couple's retreat or family getaway.
