Description from the owner
Custom built home on 2+ acres in quiet fishing town of Harpswell, Maine, which has more shoreline (about 230 miles) than any community in the United States and features varied water views at every turn. Near Bowdoin College in Brunswick with its Summer Theater. Also close to LL Beane and factory outlet shopping in nearby Freeport. Convenient to other attractions such as Boothbay Harbor and the Botanical Gardens and Portland (40 minutes by car), with its Old Port section. Wonderful hiking trails (one across the street!) in Harpswell and neary Wolfs Neck in Freeport. Some of the best kayaking in the country; kayak rentals avaialble nearby.

Additional Location Information
House is situated on 2+ acres close to town hall, on high-bank, waterfront property, but with easy access to the water via dock, ramp and float. Very large yard, wooded on both sides, so private and buffered from adjoining neighbor on the one side. Located on the northern end of Great Island, the home provides easy access East and West to the bridges connecting it to the mainland, so it is an easy drive to Brunswick for shopping, dining, movies etc. Neighboring towns of Brunswick, Freeport and Bath are sizeable year-round communities. So the location provides the best of both worlds -- a quiet setting in a small fishing town, yet quick access to "civilization" and to the highways to explore Portland and mid-coast Maine. Hiking, kayaking, beaching, "touristy" activites galore in the area. Home has a very large, crescent-shaped driveway, so easy parking.
For those not familiar with the area, Harpswell is about 2 1/2 hours north of Boston and about 40 minutes north of Portland, Maine.

Huntington NYBeautiful area, great house with fantastic views. We will defini
Left on 03/19/2013 for a stay in August 2012
The home is well appointed, fully equipped, has lots of charm and character with beautiful woodwork, blended with the modern, like the large granite cooking island. Wonderful kitchen for cooking, while looking out at the water.
Sunny, open, airy, spacious rooms. Nothing more relaxing than sitting down on the float and soaking up the afternoon sun. The caretaker is also very helpful with tips on what to do and see, where to get the best lobster, etc.
The house and its setting and location are wonderful - large semi- wooded lot with lots of sun, but lots of privacy. We had our own private cove, and the water is warm enough that you can stay in it for a long time ( unusual for Maine!). We liked the easy access to/ from " civilization " - Freeport and shopping and LL Beane, quick drive up to route 1 to Brunswick , Bath, Portland, Wiscasset, Boothbay etc.
The Harpswell area is a hidden jewel - off the beaten path, yet not too remote. Definitely loved hiking on the Cliff Trail, which starts from just across the road and takes you up to fantastic high cliff view overlooking one of the inlets. Lots to do in the area, but we spent lots of time relaxing down on the water, lying in the hammock, cooking up lobster and steamers. Great house for a memorable family vacation.
