We were looking for a quiet weekend of relaxation and rejuvenation. Elfinlau provided this and so much more! Ray met us in Harrison Hot Springs and took us over by boat to Echo Island where Marcella awaited us on the dock.
We spent two beautiful nights in the Homestead cabin. We were toasty warm inside (it was February and chilly outside) and were always well-stocked with wood for the stove. We brought our own food and had everything we needed in the well-stocked kitchen to prepare delicious meals throughout our stay. The cabin was very clean, comfortable and immediately felt like home. Marcella and Ray obviously built their cabins with love.
We lucked out with a brilliantly sunny day during our visit. We took advantage of the weather and hiked to the Lookout and then spent much of the afternoon kayaking around Echo Island. We saw bald eagles and an ermine on the beach - very cool! When we returned to Elfinlau in the kayak, Marcella and Ray had the wood-burning sauna stoked and ready for us. We even had our choice of aromatherapy. Jumping in the lake after sitting in the sauna was awesome!
I would absolutely recommend Elfinlau if you are looking for a quiet retreat in a stunning setting. Marcella and Ray were wonderful and enthusiastic hosts.

Our journey started being greeted in Chilliwack by 'The Goddess' and by a warm a friendly man named Ray. Once arrived at The Harrison Hot Springs we took our boat ride over to a unknown, purple paradise!
Marcella was there to greet us with a huge smile when we arrived and a personal message to us on a chalkboard - we can honestly say we have never had such a warm and personal Welcome anywhere!
The cabins are beautiful hand crafted, cozy havens of peacefulness, in which we enjoyed staying in spending quality time together and eating amazing meals.
Marcella and Ray are beautiful people with the ability to take hospitality to the next level! They really did make our stay a true joy and were fantastic company to be around.. They go above and beyond to make your stay special.
We really had an unforgettable stay at this little piece of paradise and would love to return!!

If there is a heaven on earth , that is the one!!! We had the most wonderful Thanksgiving in Elfinlau with lovely owners , Marcella and Ray. We have rented all the cottages and went there with a group of friends. Kids enjoyed the most. This charming place is not only a heaven by its own nature , but also designed tastefully with lots of spirit. If you give a moment to yourself you can feel you are living as the part of nature. Two beautiful spirits accompany you delightfully during your stay. We will be there again!!!

I have been to Elfinlau paradise on 3 separate occasions, the first was 3 nights in January for a Bachelor party, it was snowing. We had an amazing time and had some crazy nights, we cooked feasts, socialized, bonded, went fishing and enjoyed the world class sauna. Ray and Marcella are extremely accommodating and you will always receive the respect you give, plus some.
The second and third time I visited Elfinlau was with my girlfriend for our anniversary in June and again in September. We met people from all over BC and the world...North Van, Spain, Japan etc... We are both very social and loved meeting these new and wonderful people from all over the world!
When we wanted our privacy and some alone time, we got it. We enjoyed the hikes up to the viewpoints, morning coffee overlooking the lake, our cozy cabin and the sauna. This island can be all things to all people!
Whether you're coming for a large family gathering or a romantic getaway for two, this is the perfect island to come and "Just Be."
P.S. I highly recommend the meal plan, even for just one day.

There was nothing I didn't love about this amazing place. The owners are beautiful and caring people who made our stay feel like a piece of heaven. The cottage was outfitted with every detail you could possibly need. Every thing from the decor to the gardens was absolutely inspiring. Rich in art with a flair for fun. I can't say enough about this lovely little place. I can't wait to go back!

The perfect "It's just what I needed" place to go. I was leary at first, being picked up in a boat by someone I didn't know but I am sooo glad I went. Marcella and Ray make every effort to take care of their guest and think of details you may not have. They are cabins that afford privacy and the opportunity to socialize if you want to. Everywhere you look there are little treats, trinkets, and positivity. If you are looking for a cabin experience, this one is amazing. Our trip could not have been more perfect from kayaking, to exploring the lookout, to swimming in the lake, peace and a million stars in the sky. A wonderful get away that brought tears to my eyes when I had to leave. We even discussed keeping it to ourselves and not sharing but I will for the benefit of Marcella and Ray!

When we arrived at Elfinlau to a warm welcome by Marcella and Ray, we (13 women) were in awe of the beautiful setting these two have created with love, care and not a single power tool! Chef Ray (with the help of his lovely wife Marcella) put on a seafood dinner spread that blew our minds (and our palates). Marcella's touch of adding beautiful edible flowers from her garden into the dishes was lovely. This retreat provided much needed relaxing and the energy of Enfinlau left us all feeling amazing!

Purple everywhere, new age beliefs, yoga, crystals and natural foods. I took my girlfriend here for a weekend getaway and it was the most relaxing time of the year. We were blessed with favorable weather, but the setting and hosts would make any day bright and cheerful. The surrounding environment is gorgeous, and the views along the island trail is amazing. There is a full cabin as well as two suites. We were in the dragonfly suite and enjoyed the "ewok village" catwalks, decks and stairs. The sauna was great, and incredibly effective, as were the natural compost toilets. All of these factors made for an extremely enjoyable time... and the hosts took it to another level. Ray and Marcella were entertaining, inviting, genuinely interested in our conversation, and made for great company. We bought the food package and every meal was as exquisite as it was outside of my typical diet. From an amazing yogurt parfait in the morning to lunch wraps with chicken and flowers (edible)... It was unexpected and delicious, and the meals were enhanced further by the conversation shared with our host.

My boyfriend and I went to Elfinlau for a 3 night stay in July 2011. Going on vacation was a last minute decision and we found this gem advertised on Craigslist. What originally attracted us to this particular destination was not only the reasonable price, but the beauty of the area, the secluded location, and the opportunity to kayak and explore Echo Island and some of the surrounding Islands on Harrison Lake.
Upon arriving at Chilliwack via Greyhound, we were met with Ray, one of the owners of the resort, who drove us to the boat launch at Harrison Lake. From there it was a short and relaxing boat ride to the resort. As we approached the dock we were warmly met by Ray’s wife Marcella, and their sweet and gentle dog. We stayed in the cozy Dragonfly Cabin (check out the pictures on their website), which was furnished with a huge bunk bed, actually the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in due to the amazing memory foam mattress. Everything ran off of solar and gas power and the kitchenette allows guests the opportunity to cook their own food during the entire stay. Although, we took advantage of the meal plan option which I will talk about later. Another beautiful and romantic feature was the large fireplace, which we did not use because it did not get cool enough at night.
We liked that there was never any pressure to keep to a schedule (except mealtime of course) and we could sleep in, go kayaking and exploring the surrounding area on our own. Meals were organic and fresh, and we would have to say the most appetizing food we have ever had. What added to the overall enjoyment of the food was sitting down and enjoying our meals with the company of Ray and Marcella who made us feel at home, providing meaningful conversation and plenty of laughter. Although we thought of bringing our own food and cooking it in the kitchenette, we quickly knew we made the right decision to opt rather for the $55 a day meal plan which included freshly caught white salmon wrapped in nori for lunch, and a breakfast of yogurt, berries and granola garnished with edible flowers from Marcella’s garden (these are just 2 of the 9 meals that were provided).
As we are kayaking enthusiasts, our days were filled with paddling the majestic jade colored waters of Harrison Lake, getting off at various spots on Echo Island and other closer islands to hike, explore and enjoy a picnic of food prepared by our hosts. On our last kayaking adventure we encountered ‘bubbles’ the sea lion and her adorable baby who followed us for a short period of time, possible checking to see if we were fishing? ;)
Overall, we would recommend this vacation destination to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, eco-friendly experience that is off the grid. It is a romantic place but also accommodates large groups, so it would be great for a family, a stag or stagette, or just a single person looking to spend some time with them self, a good book and nature. My wife and I stayed at Elfinlau for our 25th anniversary weekend. The setting was enchanting; a cottage set on the cliffs on an island in the middle of beautiful Harrison Lake, British Columbia. The Hosts, Ray and Marcella, were warm, and truly genuine and caring. Ray has built an ecologically sound little village complete with composting toilets, hot water taps and shower, solar powered lighting and plugs for modern electronics. And Marcella, the heart and soul, has enchanted every nook and cranny with delightful artwork including elves, scultpures, beads and crystals, and has managed to delight all our senses with beautiful art and flowers, aromas, and windchimes. They offer an optional healthy and delicious culinary menu or cook yourself in the well-furnished kitchen. Also Marcella offers a range of spa services as well as jewelry -making classes. We kayaked around the island in 2 1/2 hours and hiked to orchid point all in one day. The comfy loft bed in the cottage overlooking the lake was so romantic! Ray and Marcella made our 25th a memorable delightful occassion and one that we will want to do again soon .

Ray and Marcella have a paradise that they share. This paradise is a perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life and hectic work.
Ray and Marcella were available and ready to assist with any of our needs, which included giving us details on the local fishing tips and how to use a real sauna, which by the way was an amazing experience.
We can't wait to return.

I return to Elifinlau again and again to soak up the incredible peacefulness in nature and the joyous company of Ray and Marcella. This is the prayer answered if you are looking for a place to get back into nature, calm your busy mind, live, love, laugh, play and return to a place within yourself that your forgot existed. Freedom to be and do whatever the heart desires. There is no place like it and yes ... I will continue to return when its time to recharge my soul. One visit and you will understand. Its almost like that little secret that is so wonderful you don't want to share ... I believe we all deserve to experience it ... if only once ... Guarantee you'll go back for more ... just don't tell too many more people about it ...

Elfinlau is an experience that doesn't happen to everyone. It is far beyond a vacation rental, it is an experience of what is possible on this despite the trials and tribulations. Ray and Marcella show this in their creation of Elfinlau. I had the pleasure of staying two nights there, the place is absolutely magical, the rooms are so clean and welcoming. Everything is placed with the comfort of the client in mind. The hike is definitely a must and the boat ride to the resort is just the beginning of the whole magical experience. If you are looking for a get away and to meet some amazing human beings or a place where you just need the space from the hustle and bustle of the city - Elfinlau is definitely the right choice. Enjoy!!!

I have stayed several times at Elfinlau since it has opened and each time has been absolutely Divine.
I arrive exhausted and leave relaxed, renewed and at peace.
Marcella and Ray are wonderful, warm hosts. The food is delicious. The Finnish sauna and the beauty of the lake so health giving.
It is the perfect place to let the outer world slip away and revel in the beauty of Mother Nature.
Whether a paddle in the kayak or a hike to the lookout, I always leave feeling stronger and more vibrant than when I arrive.
I am so grateful to have Elfinlau to come to when I feel the need to reconnect with myself. Which reminds me, I am way overdue for a stay there!
