Great boating, canoeing, and kayaking, world-renown smallmouth and muskie fishing, an abundance of perch, walleye, and sturgeon, and an excellent area for bicycling and bird watching. The island also has dining, shopping, and freighter (the big ships!) viewing.

Quaint cottage with 100' of frontage on a wide, deep water canal with direct access to the South Channel of the St. Clair River. Canal is very clean and swimmable with sand bottom. All steel seawall. Depth at the wall is 3'-4'. Room enough fo...Read more

Great first trip to Harsen's Island

Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Dianne and Scott are great hosts. We took a chance and picked their cottage from reviews on the internet and we were not disappointed.
The cottage is older but well maintained, nothing malfunctioned while we were there. The canal is close to the South Channel but protected from the waves. The water is clear and I caught the first fish before we were even unpacked. We ended every days fishing by catching perch from the boat tied up at their seawall. We tied our 18' bass boat up all week and had no problems at all. They live a few yards away, they were always available but not intrusive. Scott is a fishing nut like me and gave us a lot of ideas on where to fish. One tip - if you buy minnows at Minnick's bait shop - only ask for one dozen - ask Scott. The only thing they didn't do for us was put more water in the lake! Lake St. Clair was about 2' low due to lack of snow fall last year. We will be back next year.
      Thanks for a great vacation,
John, Tammy and Max - Zanesville, Ohio

      Fishing Trip

Left on 11/02/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Ii go fishing every year with my boys and this place was outstanding. When we needed something the owners where there. They made us feel like family. The cannel water was clear and clean. The dock was great to tie my boat off new wood not fallen apart very clean. Real close to the south channel. The wild life was cool to watch. Scott helped us with spots to fish and what time the fish were hitting. If you want to relax this is it! Laid back, quit, loved the scenery. I was asked if I would tell someone about this! No I wouldn't because that means that everyone would want to be there and I want it for myself... I will be there again.
      Thanks
      alan and the Boys

We rented this cottage for some out of town friends and they loved it! This was their first time on Harsens Island and plan on coming back. The place was clean and had all the comforts of home. We took them on a tour of the island by both boat and car and they simply enjoyed it. Having the sound of the freighters at night was also a plus. It was a great experience for them.
