Description from the owner
Welcome to Upper Swanage. A charming gingerbread cottage, designed in keeping with the old Barbadian chattel house tradition, it is tastefully decorated and furnished to make it a definite home away from home. Situated right on a beautiful white sand beach, approximately 100 yards from the start of the new south coast boardwalk. In the other direction, enjoy a 1 mile beach walk to Needham's Point. Less than 2 miles south of Bridgetown. Close to fine restaurants and shops.

Hastings is approximately two miles from Bridgetown along highway 7. It is home to the Historic Garrison area and of the Barbados Turf clubs horse racing track. Brandons beach is good for surfing The new south coast boardwalk runs from Hastings to Rockley and there you can find many fine restaurant and bars. The apartment is at the western end of the boardwalk

My sister and I spent 1 week at Lower Swanage in Barbados.
The owner/managers were very quick to respond to emails, and returned any calls to them quite promptly.
The location was gorgeous, it was so close to the beautiful water, was just at the end of the boardwak, and there was a lovely breeze blowing most of the time.
The apartment could have been a little cleaner but we made do.
My husband and I were actually booked to go there for 2 weeks this coming Feb, but we changed our minds because of the cockroaches.
We didn't see any the first couple of days, but once we did it made us paranoid, and not sure how many were out and about at night, and we wondered just where they were crawling when we couldn't see them. We therefore kept most of our food in the fridge and kept the few dishes and pots and pans we used covered. Thank God we never saw any in our bedroom!
To be fair...we did enjoy our vacation, Barbados is lovely, and Lower Swanage is in a great location, but I will never stay anywhere that I know in advance, has cockroaches.Response from Philip Brennan - 09/04/2011

We are very sorry that Peggy had this experience but we do have the property treated on a regular basis and have never had any problems like this before. After Peggy left, I spoke with our pest control company and they said that it may have been due to the heavy rains we had during May/ June, which is usually our dry season and they would recommend us increasing our treatments which we have done.
Between June and now (September) we have had five other guests at Lower Swanage and have had no complaints.

We chose the apartment as a place to recharge our emotional batteries after a very challenging period.
The owners of the apartment are lovely and met us promptly on our arrival.
The apartment is gorgeous and directly on the beach front. The beach is quite small, but soft sand and blue sea - you can't really ask for more. The deck overlooking the sea is heaven on Earth.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed with air conditioning and comfy mattresses.
Simply to summarise:

Pure Quality & Great Value.
