KitchenerAn oasis you will call 'home'
Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in February 2013
It was not too long into our stay on the beautiful island of Barbados that I caught myself offhandedly saying to my partner that it was getting late and was time to go 'home". The phrase surprised me as I have rarely used it to describe our accommodations when we travel.
'Home' was our lovely little cottage/apartment, nestled amidst the beautiful and fragrant fruit trees at Glenville Gardens. The units are small but immaculate, well equipped, and comfortable. Not only was the setting, with its intriguing turtles and roving chicks, beautifully peaceful, but Barbara and her husband Sugrim were the ideal hosts. They were wonderfully welcoming and kind. After a day on the beach, it was not uncommon for Barbara to surprise us with a slice of her delicious, warm, banana bread.
Since it was our first time in Barbados, we thought we should check out various accommodations...hotels and resorts. Although we found some beautiful ones, we were aways delighted to be able to return 'home' at the end of the day...a truly special spot. We will always remember our time here and look forward to becoming one of the many who come 'home' to Glenville Gardens when they return to Barbados. -

This is our fourth visit to this cottage for 3 to 5 week stays. It is perfect for long or short term stays as the units have completely equipped kitchens for those who like to cook in. It is located very near the Boardwalk and Rockley Beach, but with all the trees and shrubs on the property, it seems you are in the country. Barbara and Sugrim are hands on owner/managers and are very pleasant and accomodating. The compound is walled and entrance is by gate key so security is no problem. Good value for the location. We have only used the 2 bedroom cottages so cannot comment on the 1 bedroom units.

We stayed in the one bedroom flats for two weeks this Christmas holiday. Booking was extremely easy and the manager of the property, Barbara, was extremely helpful! The service we had while staying at the cottage was excellent! The property is beautiful, the flat has all of the amenities you need to eat in, and there is even a barbeque! The cottages are just a short walk to the beautiful boardwalk in Hastings and to the accra beach. There was lots of shopping and excellent restaurants nearby! Everything we needed was within walking distance. When we arrived at the cottages there was fresh bread and cake waiting for us. We were given freshly baked banana break and cake before we left. All of it was delicious! The gardens on the property are beautiful and the people who run and work on the property are extremely welcoming and helpful. We are definitely going back next year!

Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I had the good fortune of spending 3 weeks this summer at Glenville Gardens in Hastings, located on the south coast of Barbados. I am a repeat visitor to this lovely island and have stayed at numerous places, always on the south coast. Glenville Gardens is truly a tropical paradise and lovingly cared for. I stayed in a 1 bedroom flat and it was perfect in every way. I will begin with the warm welcome I received upon my arrival from the owners, Barbara and Sugrim. The attention to detail both inside the flat and outside is remarkable. The flat was well-equipped with everything I needed, it was immaculately clean and I loved the island decor. The gardens are lovingly cared for by Barbara and she takes great pride in maintaining them, not to mention that she treats her guests to fresh fruit from the trees. I was happy at the special deliveries of bananas, mango and guava. When Barbara is not tending to the gardens, she is inside baking banana bread, coconut rolls and sweet bread. I would return from a day's outing to find fresh baked goods on my porch!!! What a lovely touch and so lovingly prepared with ingredients from the garden. Barbara and Sugrim go out of their way to make their guests welcome and are helpful without ever being intrusive. They understand the needs and wants of their guests which makes for a lovely holiday. The apartments are in a perfect location; everything I needed was within walking distance or a bus ride away. The bus stop is right down the street and it is an easy, safe and affordable way to travel around the island. Restaurants are also in abundance and the boardwalk that goes to accra beach is a 3 minute walk away. I could not have asked for a better place to relax and rejuvenate away from the hot, sweltering and frenetic city. All the cottages and flats have outdoor porches which also adds to the charm. What a treat to wake up and have my coffee outside or sit there on a rainy day and listen to the rain. Thank-you!

Left on 09/01/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My husband and I stayed in Barbados in april 2012. We were fortunate to have been recommended to stay at Glenville Gardens. What a secret haven this is. Barabara and Sugrim our hosts were delightful and met us on our arrival.
The accommodation is beautiful bungalows set in lavish gardens which are alive with nature and are tended to by our hosts each day. The bungalows are immaculate with every possible amenities that you may require. They are comfortable and clean with air conditioning and plenty of hot water, fresh linen and towels. Barbara and Deborah ensure that the bungalows are cleaned and maintained to an impeccable standard.
Our hosts were on site with us and were there if needed but respected the privacy of all of the guests. They were knowledgable about the area and offered tips and advice if asked. They show a passion and commitment to their guests well-being and enjoyment.
The gardens are the highlight of the accommodation with lot's of beautiful fruit trees and unusual plants. The garden is a delight to wake up to and see the resident chickens, turtles and unusual birds which visit the gardens. The guests can take fruit for breakfast and an added treat is Barbara's homemade coconut and banana bread which is left discreetly at your door warm from the oven.
Glenville Gardens is hidden from the main road and the hustle and bustle but is a two minute walk to the beaches, restaurants and bus routes.
We have been to Barbados on three occasions and this without any doubt is our favourite place to stay. We wouldn't stay anywhere else now that we have found Glenville Gardens and it's wonderful host's. -

My partner and I were there for 5 nights and wish we could have been there the whole month! Easy access to the beach, and short walks to anything you need nearby. Quiet relaxing accommodations where you felt like you were home. The host were very warm and inviting and were there to help if you needed anything and to point you in the right direction if you needed any island advice. The fresh fruit and flowers on the grounds were amazing! The flat we had was clean modern and very well put together. We can't wait to go back!

Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My 14 year old daughter and I just returned from a wonderful, relaxing week's stay at the "Heather" -a beautifully decorated and immaculate two bedroom cottage (with WiFI - absolutely necessary when traveling with a teenager,). The cottage is new with fully outfitted Kitchen and two bathrooms with shower, sink and toilet in each. Fresh bath towels were provided and cottage cleaned mid-week.
Situate centrally on the South Coast of Barbados, Glenville Gardens is just a 5 minute walk to the local beach (lovely white sand and azure ocean),boardwalk, restaurants, and conveniently located gas station and shops.
The flowers, trees and small creatures (resident hens, a rooster, small "named" turtles, and at least two green monkies) that casually roam the property add to the charm and authenticity of Glenville Gardens.
Everything you could possibly want or need for self-catering has been thought of with meticulous precision and care...and Barbara and her husband's gracious generosity and genuine hospitality make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
My favourite memory is waking up in the morning to the sound of the birds singing outside my window, making myself a cup of tea, and spending the first two hours of the day reading a novel, without interruption or feeling I needed to rush off anywhere...a little piece of heaven!
I would stay again in a minute!

My husband and I spent Christmas 2011 in Barbados. This was our first trip to Barbados and had a wonderful experience at Glenville Gardens. The service was great as Barbara and Sugrim served as wonderful hosts. They were always available to answer questions but did not bother us otherwise. We stayed in "Estelle" which was roomy and clean. The gardens are near one of the most popular beaches (Accra Beach) on the island and it was a short walk to get there. You do have to cross a busy highway to get to the beach but we never had any trouble crossing it. We had a great time at Glenville Gardens and would definitely stay there again should we return to Barbados.

The natural beauty and tranquillity gives you the true Barbados feeling and there superb hospitality made us feel at home. With the numerous places we have visited throughout the world (Mexico, Cuba (x5), Dominique Republic(x3), Margarita Island Venezuela, Jamaica, Panama; Europe (Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Holland, etc.); Middle East (Syria, Israel, Egypt, Cypress), almost every state in the us and all of Canada, this place is definitely on the top of our list.
The place where my sister was staying had extremely loud music playing until 3am. My brother stayed in a Condo on the beach in Christ Church; his spouse would have preferred to stay at Glenville Gardens (a Condo is a Condo).
The only issue is the beds are small, I am 185lbs and my spouse is less then me (can't tell you her weight-LOL).
Can walk to the boardwalk about 200 meters and then to accura/Rockley Beach (300 meters), rent umbrella and chairs at the bar for $15 us which you are credited to buy $15 worth of drinks/food at the bar.
Can also take a Bus/Vans for $1us a person to Carlisle Bay (excellent beach) to swim with turtles from the shore vice paying for an excursion. $15 us to rent 2 lounges and umbrella.

We read a number of reviews about Glenville Gardens before booking, and are happy to report that our expectations were exceeded. We stayed for a week in a one-bedroom cabin (duplex with a shared wall, but very quiet) and should have stayed longer. The flat had a lovely porch to sit out and drink coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings. Inside, there was an open plan kitchen and living room; a air conditioned bedroom, and a nice, small bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped and supplemented by a very nice barbecue area for use of guests. Everything was very clean, and the owner is extremely helpful and welcoming. Of course we didn't spend all our time at Glenville Gardens because a beautiful beach is only five minutes walk away, as well as a number of well priced restaurants with great food. We also stayed elsewhere on the island (on the Platinum Coast) but thought Glenville Gardens was a great balance of location, value, and character. Definitely not a sterile hotel experience!

Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in January 2012
My husband and I rented the one bedroom "Kaitlin" cottage which was newly built and gorgeous. We had a nice front deck area that was covered from the sun and a provided nice place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked perfectly. There was a tv with cable, wireless internet, and air conditioning. The cottages are in a beautiful garden which produces delicious fresh fruit and is home to some chickens (Barbara gave us fresh fruit from the garden, eggs from the chickens, and made fresh banana bread for us!). The surrounding area is very much a neighborhood, not resort-y at all, but only a 5 minute walk to the beach and boardwalk. The most beautiful beach area in Barbados, in my opinion is Rockley/Accra beach which is another 5 mins down the boardwalk. It has beautiful, clean sand and the perfect sized waves to play in.
Barbara and her husband live on the property and were super helpful before, during, and after our stay. She arranged car rentals, suggested restaurant options and tours, and brought us fun little goodies almost daily!
A couple was staying in the cottage next door to ours (the one bedrooms are actually a duplex, so you share a wall), but we didn't experience any privacy or noise issues.
The aC is only in the bedroom, so the cottage does get warm during the day, but we didn't find it problematic. Also, there are mosquitos (which is true all over the island), so make sure to bring bug spray.

We have just returned from a two week stay at Glenville Gardens in Hastings and what a wonderful little complex this is. We discovered these last year while staying in the Browns Gap area and booked a 1 bedroom cottage for our return visit. The cottages are set in beautiful private and quiet gardens off the main road and two minutes from the boardwalk and beach. They are totally spotless and have excellent self catering amenities - so much so that I actually cooked a couple of meals. The owners Barbara and Sugrim treated us so well, with freshly baked banana bread, coconut scones etc and we were able to try the fresh fruit - including sweet apples, passion fruits from the trees in the gardens. I felt very safe and secure here and would recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Barbados.
Barbara and Sugrim - thanks so much for your 5 star hospitality and the home made hot pepper sauce you gave me to take home will ensure that we remember our visit for some time to come - All the best Denise & John (Scotland)

We have never had a more fantastic holiday in our lives. We were on holiday but we also felt very at home. Roaming around the lush gardens of Glenville with its variety of fruit trees, plants and flowers was indeed therapeutic.
To top it all off, we were treated to Barbara's famous and highly sought after banana bread! Truly delicious. Barbara and her team at Glenville have set a high bar for our future holidays. -

Left on 08/29/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Our holiday in Barbados at Glenville Gardens has to rank as one of the best holidays ever. We stayed at Glenville Gardens as part of a wedding party group. The bride found Glenville and we (including the bride and groom) occupied the entire place for 2 weeks in august, before and after the wedding. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place. Barbara's attention to detail was matched only by her warm and friendly welcome. We stayed in Zoe, one of the new one-bedroom chalets and every detail was taken care of. We had the freedom of the gardens (including fruit straight off the trees), we cooked and ate together as a group on a couple of days, Accra Beach is 5 minutes walk from the chalets - beautiful Caribbean seas and plenty of bars and restaurants to try all around. We even got to name one of the new Glenville turtles! We had a great time and didn't want to leave. If you want something different from the hotel experience and like the freedom of kitchen facilities for the days where you just don't want to eat out, this is the place for you. Don't hesitate - book.

We spent one week at Glenville Gardens to celebrate our 20th anniversary. It was highly recommended by some family members who had previously vacationed in Barbados. We stayed in Kaitlin, a one bedroom cottage that was spotless when we arrived. The setting was green and lush with a wide variety of fruit trees and tropical plants which were home to a number of chickens and turtles. The property is conveniently located close to the beach, stores, restaurants and the main road to Bridgetown. Walking on the beautiful boardwalk was a daily ritual and a wonderful way to start our days. Barbara was a kind, hospitable host who went above and beyond the duties of a property manager by delivering home made banana bread and water coconuts to her guests and always had time to chat, answer questions and recommend things to do. Glenville Gardens is a great place to stay for families, groups and couples!

A super little complex of varied accommodations, screened by luxuriant gardens, very well maintained by a kind, caring and friendly manageress and her husband.
Our apartment was spotlessly clean and well-appointed, and was kept so during our stsy
The gardens were delightful and offered something for everyone from small children to the elderly. Within a few hundred yards radius of the property were a bank, supermarket, pharmacy, beach and several restaurants. A cheap and frequent bus/taxi service passed within the same distance.
The fenced and gated complex felt secure, but a taxi could be called by the manageress for those who were of a more nervous character. -

Left on 05/17/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This year, we stayed at Glenville Gardens for the second time: once again with a larger group and for more than a month. And again, we thank Barbara and Sugrim for their hospitality and friendliness during our stay in their beautiful garden. Whenever I come back to this site I feel like coming into the paradise: the garden with its exotic flowers is more than beautiful. Together with the different animals it is the perfect place to rest and recover. Our 20months-old son enjoyed the turtles even more this time and I think he will never forget this experience in his life.
Although we were a large group, filling up all of the rental houses for almost all of one month, you took up with us and even allowed us to use all of the cook- and tableware from all the houses and
intermix them - making group life a lot easier. The gardens great veranda, including a grill, allowed for nice breakfasts and many barbecue-nights. And thanks again for the banana bread you served us during multiple occasions!
We still hope to come back one day, we will definitely never forget your beautiful place! Thanks!

We spent 9 days at Glenville Gardens with our 10 month old daughter and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our baby was so comfortable throughout our time there, and enjoyed her first vacation! The cottage we stayed at exceeded our expectations - very clean, cosy, fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay convenient, fun and enjoyable. We felt like we were at home ... away from home.
The property is very conveniently located within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. The owners make you feel so welcome, like you are part of the family, that you don't want to leave! It was a pleasurable experience as our first family vacation and we cannot wait to go back!
