Pensacola, FLStumbling upon a Southern Paradise
Left on 01/22/2013 for a stay in October 2011
For two adventures celebrating a year of marriage, "Momma Dean's" place was truly an experience of coming home. Meador Homestead is an absolute southern gem. Nostalgic atmosphere, world-class southern food, and modern comfort blend together and create an experience that will make you want to move in! Becca and I arrived on a Friday evening to a candlelit table for two, with a fire dancing in the fireplace and Billie Holiday crooning on the record player. The dinner and dessert were mouth-watering, and Dean & husband (Eddie) helped us feel like royalty. Our sleeping room was where the old and new really came together...antique 4-post bed, century-old love letters and tapestries on the wall mixed with a remote controlled fireplace and a mattress we tried to take home. We woke on Saturday to the smell of Pecan Cinnamon Rolls and coffee. The whole breakfast was delicious but the Cinnamon Rolls deserve their own recognition; they were not only the best I've had, they are the best breakfast food I've ever eaten. Pleasantly full, we spent our morning rocking on the porch chairs, letting our heart rates slow, and sliding slowly back in time. After a lunch in historic Hattiesburg we came back to the cabin and strolled the land, admiring the century-old cedars and crepe myrtles while reflecting on our first year of marriage. Somehow we felt we were living in simplicity that weekend, while still feeling pampered by luxury. We were looking to get away for our anniversary but ultimately found our way home.
Thank you so much to Dean and Eddie -

Dallas, TexasGreat cabin in the woods by ourselves!
Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in February 2011
Even though it has been awhile since my husband and I stayed at the Meador Homestead, I enjoyed it so much I wanted to write a review. We found it to be all that was promised. It really is an authentic 1885 log cabin, and even though it is close enough to Hattiesburg to do things there, the cabin itself is in a beautiful setting surrounded by woods. We loved the room we had and liked the fact that there is only one bedroom, so we had the privacy of being the only ones there. I was a little worried about the "glorified outhouse" but it turned out to be a beautiful, modern bathroom! The owner, Dean, made sure we had everything we needed. We will go back when we are in that area again.

I work for the Ms Development authority and we hosted workshops around the state promoting the advantages of bed and breakfast facilities in communities. One of my stops was at the Meador Homestead in Hattisburg. I had a delightful time. Dean and her husband meet me when I arrived and gave me a quick tour of the grounds and a little history lesson of the location. The bed was wonderful, the shower awesome, and the breakfast out on the grass the next morning very delightful. I did not get to see deer but others have told me that they watched the deer eat from the back poarch.
