Manchester, United KingdomGreat place for a family get together
Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Just returned from a brilliant week at La Chataigne with extended family ranging in age from 6 to 70. Party of 10 easily accommodated, all rooms en suite and well appointed - it had everything we could possibly need. The farmhouse itself is in it's own extensive grounds and looked stunning. Also made good use of the barn with table tennis, table football etc etc. Some of the party just relaxed in the sun, the kids loved the fantastic pool - the opportunity to jump in from a fair old height at one end was especially welcome, hem hem... :) We did canoeing, & visited the local caves in Tourtoirac too. Managed to discover off road mountain bike trails pretty much from the house over the hill to Excideuil and back. Easy walk to the local village where there's a boulangerie, and a couple of quiet bars. Jo and John were perfect hosts, discrete, but at hand when help needed - eg to book us a table at a lovely restaurant in Hautefort.
We had a great time, strong recommend! -

Had a wonderful time here for a friend's birthday party - cooking in the big kitchen, playing boules and badminton, treasure hunting in the garden and walking in the countryside nearby. Beautiful old stonemason's house (I think) and the hosts are lovely too. Would recommend to anyone!

Stockholm, SwedenFantastic house on the French country side
Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My friends and I stayed for a week at Les Taloches. The house (we stayed in the big one) is truly amazing with plenty of space for everyone. The pool and outdoor area is just as good, which suits both young and old.
The owners are very accommodating and service minded. If you get tired of the pool, there are many interesting places to visit in the area.
I would definitely recommend Les Taloches if you’re looking for a pleasant stay in the French countryside! -

We had a marvellous holiday at Les Taloches, yet again - our 3rd visit. Lots of space for the eight of us plus all the kids. La Chataigne is a lovely comfortable old farmhouse and it feels like home as soon as you get here. The pool is marvellous and that's where we spend a lot of time. The large playground is a huge attraction for the children and the space and peace and quiet around are very relaxing. The big kitchen is great for cooking for so many and well-equipped too, but just down the road the village restaurant is very convenient if we all want to go out. And the river is great for paddling.
We have never gone very far as it is all too easy to chill out, but there is plenty to visit within a reasonable drive, and the keen ones among us run or cycle in the countryside most days. -

Having never been to France before we weren't quite sure what to expect but Les Taloches passed all our expectations. The countryside and little village were quite lovely. It was such a treat to be able to walk to the bakers every morning - one of my dreams - and yet be in real countryside. The house and grounds were terrific - we had our own fields and woodland to play in! The house had everything you expect, beams, fireplaces, creaky stairs, shutters but was comfortable and with plenty of loos and bathrooms. We had lots of barbecues on our terrace and one for a birthday celebration in the covered summer kitchen. The children had a ball with so much to do and it was very relaxing. We'd love to go back again.

We were a party of 11 including one having a 70th birthday and 5 children under 5 but La Chataigne was the perfect place for everyone.
A beautiful house superbly furnished, great pool, and every toy you could think of for the children. Bikes, table-tennis, badminton and lots more for everyone. Good walks and plenty of places to visit if you wanted to leave the property!
Jo & John provided a delicious French meal for the 70th birthday boy in the Summer barbeque. Above all, their help and care throughout our stay was exceptional, especially when accidents occured! They were always there for us but never intrusive.
We could not have chosen anything better. -

Long Ditton, United KingdomA delightful surprise - a wonderful house to turn up to after a
Left on 09/05/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We travelled with our two girls (aged 3 and 6) as well as my two brother-in-laws with their wives and two further children (aged nearly 7 and 9). We chose to do the journey down in one, around 8 hours from Calais with a couple of stops, including one at a supermarket. What a wonderful house to turn up to - really as stunning as the pictures show. Inside its spotlessly clean, with so many extra provisions thought of to make us at home. Of all the self-catering properties we've stayed at (and we've used a lot!) this has to be one of the best. On arrival our children all just dashed in excitement around the house choosing rooms (luckily no bickering on this occasion!) and then within 30 minutes were undressed and in the pool! Its a great base for young children - not only is the pool a fantastic size (could stay and use it every day of the week happily!), but the house has a very large and comfortable living room with DVD player and a huge selection of Dvd's to choose from. They also have a play ground which the children found fun at the cooler ends of the day. For grownups - we just lived on the outside terrace, happy memories of bbq's and sangria/wine late into the night. Beautiful. The local area offers some great restaurants - in Hautefort particularly. Many other beautiful towns also worth visiting locally, we just loved Sarlat most of all. All in all, a wonderful and happy stay for our family. We would certainly consider coming again.

amybizzyFabulous Family Stay - full of character
Left on 08/23/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This is the most wonderful farmhouse, with everything you need to have a stress free, self catering holiday with young children.
Rustic and creaky, filled to the brim with character, plenty of space outside and in.
Acres of land/lawn for kids including a wonderful playground in the garden with its own boules lawn, large sand pit with diggers and lorries, one very happy son!, huge wendy house on stilts and swings and a badminton pitch!. It even has a barn with ping pong tables, bikes and a box full of balls and rounders games bats and stumps.
A large pool which Jo cleans every morning whilst we were all asleep!
I would 100% recommend this to any family (our kids were varying in ages between 3 - 8). It is safe, quiet, quirky, full of old fashioned charm. John and Jo looked after us and helped us when my husband dislocated his shoulder, John gave up his bank holiday Monday to join us to take him to hospital so he could help with our poor French.
They made good suggestions for local places of interest and restaurants. They run a good business, everywhere was clean when we arrived, garden is well attended, pool clean and kitchen has everything you want even down to the dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid.
We will return -

Les Taloches is a wonderful piece of rural France set in the Dordogne. Peaceful and ideal for adults and Children with great outdoor (good pool, huge playground, lovely terrace, Games rooms) and lovely old interior (beams, tiles, character). Kept the family busy all week with plenty to do with plenty of nearby essentials (Carrefour, Intermarche etc).
Jo and John were extremely helpful, discreet and unobstrusive but always there when we needed help!
Highly Recommended!
