Havelock North, North Island, New Zealand
Additional Location Information
Havelock House was built 25 years ago as a family home. At the time it was the talk of Hawke's Bay - the first $1 million dollar house to be built in Havelock North. Its colonial style takes its character from many older Bay properties - high ceilings, cornicing, cream paintwork, wide verandas and of course hints of Art Deco. When they first saw the property on the internet they decided it would be perfect for what they wanted a fabulous family home and B&B.; Over the past 4 years Diana and Jeff have transformed their home into a warm and friendly Bed & Breakfast. There are now 3 ensuite ground floor B&B; rooms – all large and spacious and a separate guest lounge, games room with full sized snooker table and a guest kitchen with fridge & microwave. With Diana and Jeff's skillful modernization and decoration the property incorporates the best of both worlds; it is spacious and modern but retains its unique character.
With Hawke's Bay known as "the fruit bowl of New Zealand" of course there are fruit and citrus trees in the 4 acres of garden which you are free to explore. Palm trees surround the swimming pool and there are lots of fragrant roses in the garden
There are 2 'chooks' named after Tom's godmothers Pamela and Gillian
Cattle graze in the paddocks depending on the time of year and a few sheep keep the grass down. They feed their neighbours pigs with food scraps - you are welcome to join them.
Their son Tom who is 18 creates wine tables and custom wine barrel creations. These include wine tables, racks and bottle stands. Each product is hand crafted by Tom out of oak, recycled from old oak wine barrels. Some of his work is on display in the hall – and he welcomes commissions!
