Description from the owner
Nestled on the north shore of Port Stephens, Hawks Nest is an unspoilt coastal village just 2 hours north of Sydney where dolphins play and koalas sleep.
If you're looking for a commercial holiday, Hawks Nest is not for you... but if nature and unspoilt beaches and bays, cafes on the water, biking, fishing, boating, golf and tennis sound more like your thing then this could be your dream vacation.
The Boathouse is a tastefully well appointed beach house and is a home from home.
Just around the corner from the white sand safe bay beach and on the river, this north facing light filled house is a delight.

By far the best holiday home we have stayed in, it had all the comforts you could possibly think of and a location second to none! The beach was a few moments away and the river was in sight from the beautiful balcony.
So many activities to choose from in the surrounding area...
As Brits living in Sydney for the last 18 months and having explored much of the surrounding area, it was wonderful to find this hidden treasure. -

We had a wonderful time at The Boathouse over Christmas. The house itself is large, spacious and really well equipped and has a gorgeous feel to it, and a stunning view over the river from the balcony and huge windows. The beach was a 2 minute walk behind the house, with gorgeous white sand and calm water; the kids loved jumping off the sand dunes. In the small town of Hawks Nest there were a few excellent shops and a couple of nice restaurants. Great local parks for the kids. Within 2 days I was calmer than Ive been for years. My 6 year old wants to live there - as do I!

We stayed at The Boathouse for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been to Port Stephens plenty of time but never to Hawks Nest so it was a nice change. The house is in a lovely peaceful location with the deck out the front looking out over the water - we spent a lot of time here watching the boats pass by and being visited by friendly kookaburra's. It's a big house and we only really used the upstairs area, so next time would love to go back with a few friends or family as there is so much room.

My partner and I made a last-minute decision to book a long-weekend away in Hawks Nest in October after a very busy month at work. From the moment we pulled into the driveway of the Boat House, we felt at home. Although it wasn't quite warm enough to swim, it took mere moments to access the beautiful Jimmy's Beach on foot. We enjoyed long walks along the unspoilt beach, and managed to spot a few dolphins on the way.
The house was tastefully decorated, and was equipped with everything we found we needed. The fireplace provided extra warmth when the nights got cool, and we spent some lovely evenings looking out to the picturesque view of the river from the front balcony.
The people we encountered in Hawks Nest were friendly and easy-going, and made it that much easier to relax over the weekend. All in all, we loved the Boathouse and we are really looking forward to our next stay. Highly recommended. -

Hamlyn TerraceA great winter retreat with wonderful views

We stayed at The Boathouse last year in winter. Having the woodfire was a bonus, thought it didn't really get cold being on the coast. The kids and I thoroughly relaxed. It's such a laid back place, and we felt really close to nature. We had long walks on unspoilt beaches, saw heaps of dolphins too. Even saw a koala which was a treat!!
The house was great. It felt like a home with every care being taken over the little things that matter. Lots of room to move, lots of room to escape the kids too. The main bedroom has its own verandah which I loved. All in all, we had a true family holiday and I have booked to go back in the summer this time so we can enjoy the fact that the house is so close to the water and the beach.
