A lovely house for a family gathering!

Left on 04/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We celebrated Easter with family at Blue Bell Cottage from 3/30/13-4/2/13. This is a wonderful old cottage, chock full of antiques with a lovely decor to match. There were 4 adults and 3 children, and we fit comfortably in the house (we used 2 twin blow up beds for the children). The house is much larger than it seems in the pictures.

The first floor bedroom is very large with a queen size bed, it has an ensuite bathroom with a full size shower. Upstairs, one bedroom has a queen bed and a child size twin bed. The other bedroom has a twin bed with a crib. (This was the room that all the children slept in with their blow up beds.) There is one bathroom upstairs with a jacuzzi tub and handheld shower. The living room is large with enough seating for all, the bathrooms are clean and fairly modern. The kitchen has dated appliances, but if you don't plan on cooking gourmet meals, you should do fine.

The grounds are lovely, with a fenced in area if you have small children or a dog that needs to be contained. Across the street is the field with llamas. It's very quiet and quaint and country.

You might not want to rent this property if you are looking for:
      - a large comfy sofa, LazyBoy armchairs and a big screen TV - you will not find this here. Also, there is no DVD player. There is cable TV, but the TV is not large by todays standards.
      - a large refrigerator for storing food. The large refrigerator is located in the basement of the house, the main kitchen has a dorm sized fridge. This is fine - again - if you don't plan on doing alot of cooking, etc.
      - there are no window coverings in the upper level bedrooms, so privacy is limited. But, it's the country so there are no neighbors to look in.

The owners were lovely and gracious and even invited us to their family Easter Egg Hunt!
They personally checked on us to make sure everything was as we needed.

The location was farther from Williamsburg than I expected, about a 40 minute drive. But, our intent was to visit with family and celebrate Easter and this was the perfect place to do so.

I highly recommend this country cottage getaway!

      Enjoyable time of relaxation

Left on 11/14/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Our experience was great from making the reservation until we had to leave.
The house was beautiful and made us feel like we had walked back in time.
The owners were very gracious and accommodating. They made us feel very welcome. Our time was visiting with family, but if we wanted to do sightseeing there were many options within minutes. We look forward to some day going back when the gardens are in bloom.

We Would Not Stay Here Again

Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Re Blue Bell: *CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED: No telephone service; no privacy curtains or shades in bathrooms and upstairs bedrooms; custom installed upstairs bathroom light was shot, very noisy hum, completely inadequate light; jetted tub did not work; upstairs air return filter caked with dust; no wastebaskets in upstairs bedrooms; miscellaneous lights did not work or bulbs burnt out or missing; mice poison left exposed on the floor near basement refrigerator; back door hardware stopped functioning so the convenience of using the door was lost; exceptionally noisy dishwasher; supply of plates, bowls, and saucers barely adequate for three people; kitchen sink spray hose did not work; dining table is approximately card table sized; kitchen refrigerator is cabinet sized with conventional refrigerator in basement; surprisingly noticeable noise from the road. *ODDS AND ENDS: Hosts were not on site when we made the requested one-hour-prior-to-ETA phone call, and the housekeeper who answered didn’t know we were due to arrive. With only a week’s stay and a planned schedule and no phone, there was no time to drive repeatedly to the hosts’ residence to report all the deficiencies (which appeared or occurred sequentially over time) and then wait around for maintenance personnel, so we made do and reported in writing upon departure and subsequently; host has stated that deficiencies will be corrected for future guests, but has not responded twice to the suggestion of a partial refund due to our not having received full value for money. *GENERAL IMPRESSION: Poor communication between hosts, housekeepers, and reservations/principal contact person; inadequate staff procedures for routinely inspecting, reporting, and correcting deficiencies; recommend any future guests check on corrective measures taken.
