Description from the owner
Situated on the side of Kinder Scout in the Peak District National Park this former farm stable building has been sympathetically converted to provide luxurious accommodation with contemporary style and flair. The property was converted in 2010 incorporating sustainable technologies including ground source underfloor heating and employing traditional English oak throughout. The main bedroom has en-suite facilities whilst there is the further luxury of a separate wet room bathroom. A stylish contemporary wood burning stove creates extra warmth in the main living area. The Shack is ideal for a romantic break but there is also a small bedroo...Read more

Preston, United KingdomBeautiful place to stay

We have just enjoyed a stay over the Easter bank holiday weekend. The accomodation is beautifully presented and very homely. It was immaculately clean, with lovely towels and linen provided. The weather was still cold and the wood burning stove was a treat in the evenings. It was well equipped and had everything that was needed. The area surrounding the accomodation is stunning-we were lucky to enjoy the scenery with some snow, but it would be equally beautiful in other seasons, with plenty of walks from the front door.It was a great stay-with many thanks to the owner Michael

Our second time at the Sheep shack, great location for walking. Walking distance to town for essentials. Cosy log fire, all the facilities you need for a week end away. It is tastefully decorated and clean. Thank you Michael for the use of your lovely property.

I stayed at the sheepshack for a week with a friend of mine, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner has made the whole process easy and friendly. The Barn itself is cosy and quiet which is excellent for chilling out from the busy city life. We liked the area too where the Barn is, lots of walks up to the hills and it's not far from the main village where you could get your food shopping done. Cannot recommend it enough, I will definitely try and come back for more stay in the future!

I had a wonderful week at the Sheep Shack which is situated in one of the most gorgeous places with some of the most spectacular views in the Peak District. The Sheep Shack is great value and has been done out to a high spec with a wet room, sunken kitchen and homely lounge with wood burning stove and underfloor heating throughout. There was even a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. The Sheep Shack is secluded and immediatley felt like home from home. Hayfield, the nearest villiage, has four great pubs and is a really friendly, but unspoiled village with a lovely cricket pitch in the middle. In short i highly recommend the Sheep Shack for a peaceful, relaxing, great value break away from it all.

Stayed for 4 nights, a perfect place to relax. the only noise comes from the sheep and baby lambs! lots of walks close by, also within walking distance of the village. The shack is just fab, everything you need, also instructions on how to find or use anything. Bbq to use in the warmer months with seating area in small garden.

I stayed in this cottage with my 2 young daughters in late august so we could explore Kinder Scout. The Cottage exceeded our expectations on all counts ; the quality and finish to the accommodation is exceptional and the layout works really well, it had the feel of a small "bijou" hotel especially with the magnificent wet room and modern wood burner in the lounge area ; the views are wonderful and the local pub is just a stroll away ; I would highly recommend this place and intend to return with my wife and children later this year.

Maidstone, United KingdomBeautiful cottage, fantastic tranquil location.

We stayed for 3 nights in this beautiful farm building renovation. We had booked after finding the 'Sheep Shack' website but the cottage and its location exceeded all our expectations. The views all around are fabulous and it is so peaceful. We had lovely weather during our time there and enjoyed sitting out on the patio at the end of the day simply admiring the fantastic views and listening to the stream below! It is an excellent location for walking with walks from the door in every direction.
The whole cottage is furnished/equipped to a very high standard. We found there to be many items of equipment which you would not normally expect to find and which enhanced our stay.
Our family group consisted of 3. The main bedroom and ensuite are upstairs and the small bedroom downstairs with bunkbeds that comfortably slept our 6ft 16yr old! It did however not have any storage in this room but this was not a problem for us.
We did not use the car much during our short break but the newly created private parking space did provide a challenge to get in/out of and would be even more challenging with a bigger car (we have a Toyota Prius).
We took food etc with us but basic supplies are available in the village although that is quite a walk if you just wanted to nip out for something. During the summer the camp site at the bottom of the hill has a very small shop but sadly when we walked down on our first morning for a daily paper was told you have to order them!
We would love to return here and felt very sad leaving after our short break. -

ManchesterA beautiful retreat in an idyllic setting

My partner and I had a 3 night stay in the Sheep Shack recently and have already booked our second visit!
It's hard to put into words how beautiful the local scenery is and how perfectly this holiday home fits into it. The Sheep Shack is fitted out with modern and sleek furnishings which compliment the well balanced mix of the old farm building with new design.
We arrived after a busy week at work and were instantly filled with a sense of relaxation and luxurious living.
We ate in 'The Sportsman' pub which is just 10mins walk from the property. The meal was pleasant with no real fault to note, however we will be trying 'The Pack Horse' on our next visit. The local village (Hayfield) does not have a cash point but most places accept cards.
I cannot recommend this property enough - if you are looking for a relaxing getaway with beautiful scenery and a very high standard of accommodation, look no further!

EnglandFabulous small cottage for a very reasonable price

Small but well equipped, recently rennovated cottage a short distance out of the village of Hayfield. The building has been restored recently with high quality fixtures and fittings. No hand-me-down furniture or cheapness here.
The remote location is great for the views, tranquility and nearby walks, but it is a short drive to the village for the pubs and shops (especially if you've been walking all day!).
Everything you could need - fully kitted out kitchen, blu-ray player, wood for the fire, local maps, books, bed linen, towels, etc.
Excellent value for money. I'd definitely recommend this for a romantic break or a weekend away with young children (note the second bedroom is very small and has only a bunk bed).
Only downsides to this trip was it takes a day for the geo-wat-not heating to warm up and a bad case of food poisoning from the Sportsman pub. Avoid at all costs - the Pack Horse further down the road was lovely.
Certainly one of the smartest and best equipped UK properties we've stayed in. You won't be disappointed. -

Just home from a fantastic weekend staying in the Sheep Shack.
The accommodation was clean, well thought out, comfortable and stylish, a superb renovation with nice touches such as the windows in original and quirky places. Nice touches included a wide selection of movies and music on the quality entertainment systems, basics in the fridge, well appointed kitchen, warm on arrival [the under floor heating was greatness], safe storage shed to lock bikes in, good local information [and a friendly farmer next door] and a generally high level of comfort all around.
The location of the Sheep Shack is perfect for mountain biking, trail running, hiking and simply chilling out in the beautiful countryside. In the village we visited 2 pubs, one was quiet, had a good menu and quiet ambiance, the other was more of a wine bar, fancier menu and music, several other pubs we didn't have time to visit [on this trip] so something for everyone.
This weekend it was just the two of us, the accommodation wasn't 'too big' for a romantic weekend, but we plan to come back with the children [2 in bunk beds and room for a third in a pull out bed] or with a few friends for a fun weekend break. There is lots to do in the area to suit all tastes and desires.
The Sheep Shack is a perfect base from which to explore or simply enjoy a tranquil and peaceful break. We highly recommend it. -

Left on 11/24/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We arrived Saturday afternoon to the Sheep Shack, the sun was out and the skies were Blue which straight away gave us the most fantastic sights of the landscape. We were privileged to be the first guests into this grade 2 listed barn conversion. The layout of the barn is excellent and the interior compliments the barn. The log burner was a huge bonus to which we lit in 30 minutes not that we needed it as the underground heating was ample enough to warm the building. We bought food supplies with us however Hayfield has all the facilities once would expect, including 5 pubs. We had a meal in the packhorse which was nice however suggest you book. We walked from the barn which took about 25 minutes to Hayfield suggest you take a torch for on the way back as there is no lighting for the last half a mile or so. The barn has all the mod cons one would need and also a outside shed for bikes and walking kit etc.. Although we only spent 48 hours at the Sheepshack We could quite happily live there. I have recommended this retreat to my friends and family so I suggest you get booking soonest. Thank you for a great weekend.
