We stayed for a week in early December, when it was damp anbd cold outside. The Peren, however, was cosy and warm, due to good heating system and insulation. It is beautiful inside and well designed, both downstairs and upstairs. Our grandchildren came to stay and loved the space and feel of it. Simon is a charming host who would offer any help if required. We would much recommend it, and hope to return, but will stick to off-peak periods.

The Peren is a beautifully designed converted Herefordshire barn situated in the perfect spot for a restful holiday. The owners furnish it with all the comforts of home and leave a nice welcome pack of kitchen essentials for your arrival. The bed was super comfy and the shower and bathrooms beautiful. We appreciated the available WiFi. The gardens are filled with wildflowers, herbs, birds and horses and there is a table to enjoy a meal outdoors. It's a very peaceful location yet close to the town of Hay-on-Wye. Don't miss Booth's bookstore and cafe in Hay and the beautiful Brecon Beacons in nearby Wales. The local countryside is full of villages, pubs and historic places to explore. The owners do all they can to make your stay memorable and special.

We stayed at The Peren for Easter weekend and didn't want to leave! The location is perfect...set back from the main road enough to mean that the only noise is the birds, but close enough to Hay on Wye for an hour or two browsing the bookshops. The barn itself has been extremely well designed (we loved the hidden staircase and the glass floor!), tastefully decorated (modern with cottage twist!), and equipped with everything you need - including the logs for a fire in the evenings! We loved the cake and fresh bread on arrival, and needed no excuse to sit outside in the deck chairs drinking tea and taking in the surroundings. We can genuinely say that everything has been thought of, including a list of local walks and places to eat. We liked the personal touch of the owners dropping by the check everything was ok for us. We have already recommended it to friends and will be back soon ourselves!

It's can be difficult to find great, stylish accommodation off the beaten track but that's exactly what the Peren is. In winter you can snuggle up in front of a fire (and the sofas are the proper soft, squashy kind). In the summer you are surrounded by meadow flowers and there are lots of nooks and crannies provided to sit and eat in the garden or just lounge around. There are beautiful walks straight from the door and great places to eat and browse in Hay - where's even a 'beach' by the river. A great area of the country. Intelligent, thoughtful accommodation and the owners couldn't be nicer. We're repeat visitors and highly recommend.

The Peren is a beautiful property, maintained to an incredibly high standard and tastefully decorated and fitted out. We were just 2 people and it was perfect for us with loads of space to chill, cook and watch the birds. There's another bedroom, though living space may be limited for a family. The service was exemplary, with a courtesy visit paid to ensure everything was okay, which did not feel in the slightest bit intrusive. Having high quality ready meals in the freezer (on an 'honesty box' basis) was a nice touch. The location is perfect, being out of the way but within easy reach of Hay and other places to see and there's walking straight out of the front door. It felt like a real bolt-hole. We loved the peace and quiet and would definitely go again.

My partner and I arrived tired and worn out after a hard working week in London. Within minutes we felt not only welcome but truly relaxed. This place is a total tonic - with thoughtful details that make all the difference like the sheepskin rugs, luxuriant robes and enticingly stocked freezer. We loved the sense of space with the enormous windows overlooking the beautiful countryside. The only creature that overlooked us was a horse. With Hay on Wye only a few miles away we got our fix of the local quirky shops, cafes and restaurants. This was a truly memorable break for all the right reasons.
