Birdsong Cottage lies nestled in a grove of Milkwood trees, overlooking the Vermont Saltpan, which is a bird sanctuary. This four bedroomed, three bathroomed house is fully equipped for eight people. It is an ideal location for nature lovers wanting to relax away from the bustle of the city.

The house has a fully-equipped kitchen, and spacious dining and lounge areas. The living area has a French stove which makes the house really cozy on those chilly evenings. The large verandah at the front of the house has a built-in barbeque and offers spectacular views across the water, towards the mountains. This is an ideal bird watching spot.... A grove of Milkwood trees at the back offers a cool place to shelter on those hot summer days.

The house is a short stroll from the ocean tidal pool and a path that follows the coast in both directions for kilometers. The whole area offers great beaches, mountain walks, markets and many fine restaurants. There are two top class golf courses nearby. This is a renowned wine growing area and there are many excellent vineyards within a 15 - 20 km. Of course, Hermanus is known as one of the best whale watching in destinations in the world.

Additional Location Information

Birdsong Cottage sits at the edge of a green belt, on the shores of a lake that teems with birdlife. The milkwood trees behind the house create shade and is the perfect place to have a leisurely lunch on a hot day. However, if you are wanting to barbeque in the day or evening then the front verandah is where the sun will find you and from where you can watch the mountains changing colour as the sun sets and birds flying in to find their resting spot for the night.

Hermanus centre is 10 km away. Birdsong Cottage is in Vermont which is a quiet suburb of Hermanus. This busy town has shops where you can find all you need and more. There are a few grocery stores and restaurants within easy walking and others five minutes away.

There are two beaches in very close proximity and then a whole lot more if you want to drive a little further. At the end of Hermanus there is a long beach where you can walk on the golden sands for miles. If you are looking for a large body of water for canoeing, sailing, kite surfing or water skiing then the Botriver lagoon is just down the road. Arabella Golf Course and Hermanus Golf Course are within a short distance.

Whales come in ever-increasing numbers in winter and spring to Walker Bay on which Hermanus lies. This is known as one of the best land-based whale watching venues in the world. If you want to go out on a cruise and see whales up close, that too is available.

There is off street parking for three cars. There is no bus service nearby but the local taxis run regularly three blocks away.

  This is one of the Cape's best kept secrets! Easy to locate just off the main road from Cape Town to Hermanus. Check-in very efficient and welcoming. House set in a leafy woodland facing a bird sanctury. Absolutely spotless and tastefully furnished. Beds wonderfully comfortable. Fully equipped with everything you could need. Spacious veranda with spectacular viewing of the large variety of birds on the salt pan directly in front. We watched a whole flock of flamingo wading in the water just metres away! Excellent restaurants in the village and many interesting and easy walks to enjoy. We were able to relax completely and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
