My wife and I spent a week at this cabin. The location is between Highlands and Franklin on Scaly Mountain. There is nothing within walking distance except exercise and a few private homes. Main Street, Highlands is about 15 minutes away.

We spent our week hunting waterfalls in the area, which are outstanding.

The view from the balcony is OK, but not outstanding. The mountains are way in the distance through a narrow break in the trees. It is a better view than Main Street, Highlands.

There is cookware, dinnerware and extra supplies in the cupboards. Renter must also take their own trash to the dump. You are free to use anything in the cabin, but need to resupply anything that is used up - soap, trash bags, spices, etc.

Nice washer and drier is in the cabin.

Cabin gets very warm if the sun is shining. I was surprised that it was 85 degrees inside and 70 out, when we got back from hiking. There is a roof vent and numerous windows that I would recommend opening when the sun is shining.

Cell service is poor, but the owner allows use of the house phone, including long distance. WiFi is also included.

We peeked at the space downstairs, which is completely separate. It would be good for kids, but (IMO) not for another couple. It was rather musty when we opened the door, so be prepared - it needs to be aired out a bit before using it.

Neighbors are friendly. They may stop you if you are walking on the road, and ask who you are and if you are staying at the cabin.

Cabin is pet friendly and there is no pet odor.

      Octber 11-14 near Highlands

Left on 10/14/2012 for a stay in October 2012

The stay was very enjoyable and the cabin was nice (even if a little older than some we have rented). All the amenities stated in the advertisements were there and more. We were disappointed that the satellite TV did not get Espn (could not see a college game we planned on seeing). The view from the cabin was very nice but there has been some growth of trees that blocked all the views in Vrbo pics. The cabin was fairly isolated and we like that. We saw some very nice falls near by that are not advertised- Holcomb and ammon Creek falls. They are within a few miles of cabin but are accessed by 3 miles of gravel road.

      Perfect Location!!

Left on 10/03/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed here for Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful time. The house is secluded enough to enjoy the peacefulness of the mountains while still being just a short drive into the main street of Highlands. This made it easy to get groceries and anything else we needed. Also, there were some great trails that were just a short ride away from the house. The Glenn Falls trail was beautiful! Since we went during the summer...the trees were so full that they kind of blocked the mountain view. We were kind of disappointed by this at first, but then it rained one morning and the view of the trees was amazing. It was like staying in a beautiful treehouse. You won't find a mountain house this close to Highlands for this price. It's a great value!

      Relaxing, Worry-Free Weekend

Left on 05/17/2011 for a stay in September 2010

We really enjoyed our weekend here. The house is secluded but not too far from Highlands. The view from the back porch is lovely and the house itself was clean, pleasant and perfectly comfortable. All in all, it was a very nice, relaxing weekend and we would not hesitate to rent from Sandra again.

      Fantastic Fall Getaway

Left on 05/17/2011 for a stay in October 2010

I stayed here with friends last fall and had a wonderful time. The cabin is rustic, but with excellent amenities. There are many places to hike close to the cabin, and we also took some side trips to visit waterfalls and enjoy the fall scenery. Evenings were spend reading, playing games and watching an occasional movie. Satellite TV and high speed Internet allowed us to be away, but still be in touch with the world if we wanted.

Highlands is only a short drive away, and there are many shops and restaurants.
