Shelton, CTGreat out-of-the-way spot
Left on 09/04/2011 for a stay in August 2011
My husband, son and I were here for 5 nights. It is wonderful, sunny and quiet. Great for hiking and just soaking up nature. We are wildlife freaks, so were out by 6:30 am looking for wildlife in Custer State Park then saw sights before doing the dusk wildlife viewing. Never got back to the cabin until late evening. Because cabin is so secluded it is best if you intend to cook meals there and spend time there. We loved it, but the ride out to it on gravel road late at night was tiring. Since we are wildlife lovers, (and I don't eat meat either), the stuffed animal heads in the living room were a little off-putting. But I just learned not to look up. Our son loved the loft bedroom. Hill City is good location for getting to Custer State Park (don't miss it if you love wildlife), the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, etc. If you aren't crazy about (no lie) 400,000 motorcycles, be sure not to go in the beginning of aug. when the Sturgis bike rally takes place. Although it is in Sturgis north of Hill City, the motorcycles are everywhere & downtown areas are all closed off just for them. The bikes became extremely annoying after awhile. Scared off wildlife too. Even when we got to Yellowstone later in our trip the bikes were there. Only two accidents we saw were motorcycles. One guy was lifestarred out. This cabin is out of the way and no motorcycles will bother you out there. Very peaceful

Oshkosh, WIExceptional scenery with awesome wildlife and wonderful trails t
Left on 11/30/2010 for a stay in September 2010
In September my wife and parents came with me on the best vacation of our lives as we rode our four wheelers through the Black Hills. The trails were awesome and easy to navigate even for my elderly parents, but the best part was our accomodations. Nestled into the cozy Black Hills we were only 20 miles from Hill City yet had all the ammenities of home. We stayed at the Lone Spruce Ranch, a gorgeous cabin with cedar siding, a corral, a view to die for and everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Everything was included, from dishes to air to satellite tv for my dad. For those who love the outdoors and want a quiet getaway this is the place. The trails are terrific, the wildlife is everywhere, elk, mule deer, white tails, and more. We never trailed our four wheelers and had plenty of trails to ride for an entire week. It was great and we recommend it to all who enjoy the outdoors.

We have been renting this cabin for the last six years! It is a perfect location for relaxation, hiking or whatever you enjoy. You just have to read the journals of other visitors to see how much everyone enjoys this cabin. You are close to many tourist areas also. There is nothing like sitting on the front porch at night (or anytime) and watching the wildlife or looking at the stars. We will be back!
