San Francisco Bay AreaThe turtles made this place

Arrangements for our arrival were done expertly. When I showed up on site missing my confirmation email containing some important information, a couple of quick phone calls sorted everything out, even though it was 8 pm on a Sunday. Very aloha.
The rental unit is on the 3rd floor of an older building. It's very conveniently located, near the airport, but not noisy. There is no Hvac, only ceiling fans. That helps keep the price low. The balcony overlooks the pool, and a little further out you can see the tide pool where the turtles come in to feed. On our first morning we spotted turtles while enjoying coffee on the balcony, then went downstairs to swim with them. There's a bit of jungle just east of the pool, and the koki frogs were pretty loud at night. I liked it, but my wife said they kept her awake until we turned up the fan to drown out their song.
Wireless internet was effortless and reasonably fast. The kitchen was well-stocked for moderately serious cooking. Appliances all worked. There is no ice machine down the hall or ice maker in the fridge, but plenty of plastic ice trays are provided. We used the coin-operated laundry, just outside and down the hallway, and it worked fine.
To us the best part was the little cove out back. She waded up to the sea turtles that came in at high tide to munch the seaweed on the rocks/lava. I snorkeled a bit and appreciated sea urchins. The worst part was the lack of Hvac. Hilo is damp and warm outdoors in July, and the condo was damp and warm indoors all day and night. -

We had a wonderful vacation and a great stay at Maunaloa Shores. 304 Exceeded my expectations, pictures didn't do it justice. All the little extras were wonderful. Seeing the Sea Turtles there was unforgettable. We would definately go back!
