My family members and I had a most wonderful time staying at beautiful Uli Kai on our recent stay in Hilo. It was just as lovely as described. The rooms were spacious and well supplied with needed items. We especially enjoyed the refreshing dips in the swimming pool. We enjoyed spending time on the lanai where there was a lovely
view of the ocean. Uli Kai is on a picturesque street where lush growth abounds. We definitely recommend it. -

This was the first time we have rented a house for a vacation and based on the experience I had this time, I would do it again in a heart beat! The place
looked exactly as the pictures on the web site. The pool and hot tub were amazing! Two families of 4 stayed in the house and there was plenty of room. Pao
was excellent to work with and responded to emails and phone calls in a very timely manner. Everything was just what we expected. We had a wonderful trip
and this vacation home greatly contributed to that. I'm a bit on the picky side when it comes to cleanliness and thought the kitchen cupboard handles were
sticky, but after cleaning them, I noticed they were still sticky, so I think it has more to do with the humid climate. Everything else was great!

I found this property while looking for a place for my brother and sister in law to take my parents for their 40th anniversary. We couldn't have found a better place. It was super clean, exactly as pictured and even better than what I was expecting. The house is large and spacious, plenty of room for more than our 5 people. We enjoyed staying on the Hilo side of the island, it gave us more opportunities to get out and see things on our own rather than doing commercial tours. We absolutely loved every day being able to come back in the afternoon, grill out a late lunch and have a drink or two while soaking up some sun by the pool or in the jacuzzi.
There were some great suggestions in the book left for guest information, and I loved reading the guest book and comments from prior guests. I got up early most mornings and walked across the street to watch the sunrise over the waves crashing into the shore. It was absolutely beautiful. The paradise park area is a little remote compared to staying at a resort, and I think that's what I loved most about it. It really allowed us to enjoy the quiet, hear the waves, fall asleep listening to the coquis in the trees.
The owner was very pleasant and easy to deal with, and always very prompt with responses. We only had one minor issue and the handy man that takes care of the property was easy to contact and deal with, and very prompt. This is a fabulous place to take your family on vacation! -

Amazingly clean, nicely furnished, comfortable space. Great area, close to many attractions, Hilo, Pahoa restaurants, volcano boat tour, rain forest, groceries, volcano national park. I loved sitting by the pool and in the hot tub. Such a treat with lush trees and plants. Lots of information is provided by the owner. Internet connection great. The screen porch is wonderful during rain storms or any time. Watching waves crash across the street. Superb ! Great value, we hope to take the family next time. Perfect place for reunions, family or friends.

This house was a great place to stay... wonderful pool and hot tub area, on a small quiet street great for walking, across the street from the ocean, close enough to town for shopping... and right in the middle of all the great tourist attractions and site seeing! This house was very clean, very well stocked and very comfortable! Will definately stay here again!!!

Our family stayed for 10 days at this wonderful home. It is as described. We had a view of the ocean, a screened porch for meals, full kitchen. The best part was the beautiful swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is a nice walk down the road. It was close to the hot ponds and other sites. This was a fantastic value!!

Initially, I was concerned there was no aC but the cooler temperatures and the room fans were more then adequate. The house is spacious and centrally located for just about everything on the island. Easy drive to the volcano, downtown Hilo and Mauna Kea. This was rented for a mini family reunion. There was plenty of room for everyone. The full kitchen is a huge bonus and well stocked with cooking appliances. We spent almost every night relaxing in the pool and jacuzzi. It was fabulous to come home too!
The rental service was very easy to communicate with. We always received responses within a day. Be aware that this is on the rainy side of the island. If you are looking for resort beaches then this is the wrong location for you. A lot more local color on this side. There is plenty to do including beach and snorkeling in easy driving distances. -

I would like to thank our host for such a wonderful experience staying at your house, Uli Kai on the big island of Hawaii. We wanted to experience what it must be like to live life on the Big Island, your place gave us that tropical paradise feel. At night you could hear the frogs and the crashing of the waves against the lava cliffs. We experienced what it must be like living on the big island of Hawaii. Staying at your place was a magical place. We spent May 24th thru May 31st 2012. We were 4 adults. We enjoyed all the comforts of home away from home. The furnishings were comfortable and there was plenty of space for us to be together or in our own space. The lanai on the second level offers an extended view of the ocean which is just across the private road in front of the house that only the locals' travel on (not many cars if any). I walked to the beach every morning just to watch the sun rise and drink my cup of coffee. The pool is amazing and we swam laps almost every day, morning and evening. The garden is large and filled with tropical foliage. Volcano National park is not far from the house and is a must see along with the black sand beaches. When we were at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach Park we seen "Eight” sea turtles! It was so amazing! The owner provides a book that suggestion on where to go for eats and sights to see. We tried almost all of the places. If you want a true Island experience on food try them all. The farmers market in downtown Hilo is fun and so is the farmers market closer to the house on Sundays. We had a list of things we wanted to see and do, but we didn't have enough time in 7 days! We can't wait to rent the house again and get away from the main land. This place is a vacation house in paradise!

The location was beautiful The ocean was but a short walk away. The pool was small, but then again, there were 11 of us at the house. On the downside, the house was 'warm' even with the fans. There were numerous different types of bugs in each room of the house. The one television was ok but reception was poor due to the cable wire to the back of the tv being separated from the plug in. The garage was locked and we were unable to enter it to get to the reported bicycle(s).
A reclining chair in the living room upstairs was broken (footrest). The bedrooms had only 1 wall plug in for electrical use which made it difficult to attach needed medical devices up for the night.
Response from Hawaiian Rental Properties - 06/22/2012
Owner
My pool is about 25 ft X 8 ft which is quite big for a standard backyard swimming pool. Please look at the picture of the pool on the web site. As for the bugs, this is Hawaii in a tropical climate, there are some bugs around. My cleaning lady always check and make sure that there are no bugs. The TV had been checked by our maintenance man and he said it was working fine. I advertised that I have bicycles available upon request. This guest did not ask for it. The foot rest for reclining chair had been fixed. There are at least two outlets in each bedroom. I am sorry that this guest did not find it. He did not email me or call our maintenance man. The outlet in one bed room was behind the bed. I am sorry that this guest had a disappointed stay. Some guest had more expectation than the others.

We could not be happier about our decision to stay at this property. While it was way more space than we needed for 2 people, it was the only time on our vacation where we really felt at home. The kitchen was perfect for cooking meals, we loved reading and eating on the covered porch, the pool/hot tub/patio were incredible, everything was immaculate, and Pao was more than we could have hoped for in a property manager. We cant thank you enough for all of your help and for being so accomodating. The location and the house itself were absolutely perfect. We alos loved watching the turtles feed across the street at sunset. I've never seen so many in my life. We wish that we were still there, we cant wait to go back, and we wouldnt hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking to just relax and do nothing, or explore the Hilo side. We've stayed in a lot of rental homes, and this is my new favorite.

My family and I have stay in this home for 2 years in a row. When we first walked out to the pool area our mouths dropped! It is away from all the busy tourist and yet still close enough to the markets, Volcanos and waterfalls. The property makes you feel like you are on your owen island! If the rain comes just hop in the car over saddle belt road to Hapuna beach! Very well priced for all you get. Pool is amazing! Ahhh I miss it already :)
