Historically home for the Hawaiians was not on the beach, they lived in the valleys where the weather was appealing, inspirational, serene. Legend has it that Reed’s Island, (original name “Koloiki”) was the play ground of the Alii. Imagine staying in what seems to be deep in a rain forest, but just a mile up river of Hilo Bay, where a Hawaiian King spent his time.

Reed's Island is a Hilo neighborhood where the wealthy built their homes in a bygone era, and it still holds that reputation today. The two and a quarter acre estate is located at the very end of the island's only road, giving it the most prestigious and secluded setting on the island - “feels like being on a private island”.

The Falls at Reed's Island is about 1 mile from old historic Hilo town and Hilo Bay “The Beautiful Bayside City”. The land is more vertical than horizontal, a sliver with about 700' of frontage on the Wailuku River, the largest river in the State. It is protected by a fragment of State land on its side away from the river, and the land across the river is protected by a conservation easement. When on the property, it seems deep in the rain forest, although it is really in downtown Hilo.

Plus $35 for each additional occupant per night

Cleaning fee 1 or 2 guest $150, 3 or 4 guest $175, 5 or 6 guest $200.

TAXES:

Plus two Hawaii taxes (subject to change - currently) 13.42%:
General Excise Tax of 4.166%; and
Transient Accommodations Tax of 9.25%.

RESERVATIONS:
A $650.00 reservation deposit is required to hold your dates, with the balance payable 90 days prior to arrival.

CANCELLATIONS:
Should you need to cancel your reservation please do so in writing. Cancellations with written notice of 91 or more days prior to your arrival date will result in a refund of monies paid, minus a $350 cancellation fee. With written notice of less than 91 days, refunds will be based solely on the ability to re-rent the reserved dates. Only the amount collected from the new tenant(s) will be refunded, again minus the cancellation fee. At owners sole discretion re-renting of the reserved dates may be in increments less than the full number of your reserved nights, however not less than in three night increments. It is strongly recommended guests purchase trip cancellation insurance.

The rates (and minimum nights) above do not apply to bookings that include the Merrie Monarch Festival, Thanksgiving, and/or periods between Dec 15th to Jan 15th. - contact owner for details.

  We are here at the falls on Reeds Island and have spent 5 nights with 2 to go. I cannot tell you how beautiful this place is. It's hard to leave to go sight seeing and snorkeling. There is every amenity you could want and then some. When we arrived the waterfall was spectacular and as the days go by with rain at night each morning it is even better. The evening symphonies are loud but wonderful and the morning songs are different but equally enjoyable. I would encourage everyone to spend time here and I'm so grateful that our time is not yet over! We will be back.

  Wake up in Paradise

  The pictures don't do this home justice. It really is even indescribable. If you are looking to check out and recharge this is the place to go. It is so beautiful!!! Also extremely comfortable the owners have everything you could possible need. There's books, sunscreen, bug repelant. The kitchen is fully stocked. You can cook anything. We came in the evening to a completely black night could not see a thing outside and then we woke up to Paradise. The waterfall is so beautiful and relaxing. I just layed on the couch in the kitchen read books, drank wine and forgot about work. We will be back!!

  My husband informed me early on that he was planning a surprise birthday treat for my 70th birthday, but I purposely knew few of the details. He did tell me that we would go to Hilo on the island of Hawaii for five days after staying in Kauai for two weeks.
  
  Approaching The Falls at Reed's Island was an experience because you crossed a small wooden bridge and ascended a hill with deep ravines on both sides of the road. The house is hidden away in Hilo with total privacy. With a modern take on Hawaiian construction, it is serenely beautiful, and the view was beyond our expectations - it is breathtaking! And we were surrounded by the music of the falls by day and tree frogs at night.
  
  We were so impressed that everything you might need was available. Hilo is an interesting and charming town, and we enjoyed the local restaurants. What a wonderful surprise this was - unforgettable!

  Our vacations were unforgettable because of our stay at the Falls at Reeds Island! I wanted to give to my partner a precious present - a trip for our anniversary-. Our experience exceeded our expectations!!! The whole atmosphere was very alluring with the waterfalls, the trees, the birds, the Wailuku River, which really calms you with its sound……It’s truly a paradise on earth…..Very spacious bedrooms, large windows which was extremely relaxing as we enjoyed the view of the forest from every single aspect of the house. Idyllic for romantic gateway fore sure!! We are planning to come back next year and stay for more days this time!! Bravo to the owners!!!
