Great Location and great value, but felt like Grandma's house

Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in March 2011

We were a family of four (parents plus a 13 year old son and a 9 year old daughter); the location of this vacation rental was ideal for our purposes, as we were visiting both NYC and friends who live up the road in nearby North Bergen, NJ. And the price of the rental was a bargain, but it was strictly a "no frills" kind of rental.

To be fair, this was how it was advertised, so it wasn't really a big surprise, but it felt like no effort or thought had been put into making it a workable vacation rental unit. There really was very little privacy (there was a curtain instead of a door between the front bedroom and the dining area, and the third bedroom was adjoining the "master bedroom" separated by a glass door), there was alot of wasted space (in the front bedroom there was a chair, a tv and a single bed in what originally would have been the living room of the apartment) and the "master bedroom" had a double futon for sleeping - not the most comfortable arrangement! In addition, there were lots of tchotchkas, old toys and stuffed animals of questionable cleanliness that were left around - hence the feeling that we were visiting Grandma's house!

It would also certainly not be appropriate for anyone with mobility issues, as the apartment is up two fairly significant flights of stairs (one outside from the sidewalk to the front door of the building, and one from the front door up to the apartment).
But for bargain-hunters who don't mind basic accommodation and want a great location in Hoboken (a terrific, funky town on its own) with excellent proximity to public transportation to Manhattan (bus, ferry or train) this is the vacation rental for you.

      Very happy on the Hudson

Left on 08/07/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We chose thia apartment because of its location, reasonable cost and previous good reviews and we were not disappointed in the least and were delighted with all aspects of our stay here. The apartment was very spacious with all the amenities we needed including 2 TVs, a large refrigerator, good kitchen appliances, a hairdryer and even a laptop with Internet access. As reported in other reviews the apartment was very clean even though the decor and furniture was a little dated although we thought that this just gave the apartment a quaint charm. The owner, Dmitri, was very helpful and arranged for us to get access to the apartment straight away even though we arrived very late due to our flight being delayed. He also responded very promptly to all my emails and didn't even require a security deposit.

We would definitely have no hesitation in recommending this apartment to others and fully intend to stay there again if we come back to Hoboken.

Hoboken itself is a lovely town which is a great alternative to staying in Manhattan as it has lovely riverside views, is peaceful but still is lively with plenty of good restaurants and bars to choose from.

This was our second year staying here and it was fine. Thank goodness the air conditioners worked as the heat was again to the extremes. All amenities were there and we had a good time.
      Thanks Dimitri.

      A little gem

Left on 07/19/2011 for a stay in June 2011

This place was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this apartment. A very pleasant neighbourhood. The location was everything parks, restaurants, markets all so close. And transport to Manhattan was very handy, six blocks away - either by ferry or path train - 15 minutes from the transit centre in Hoboken to 33rd Street. The bus service had stops in Washington Street - the next street over.
The apartment itself was basic but just what we needed.

Good location and all the amenities one would need.

Left on 09/07/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Spacious and clean, the whole family felt comfortable and the air conditioners worked which was a blessing given the horrific heat of our two week stay. Loved the location as was close to our son and family living in Hoboken and the short walk to the Hudson River with the view of New York was wonderful. Quiet and yet close to all we needed-Path, shops, parks.

      GREAT PLACE! GREAT LOCATION

Left on 05/24/2010 for a stay in April 2010

What a gem of a place. My husband and I stayed there for 3 days. The entire 3rd floor (actually 2nd floor because 1st floor is below street level)of a brownstone. Very quiet neighborhood considering the college is directly behind us and we were 1 block away from the main street. Everything was clean and nice...very homey and comfortable. During the day we went to Manhattan. We used all the modes of transportation, Path,Subway,Water Ferry, bus. The bus is one block away and it costs about $3. The Path and ferry is about a 10 minute walk away. The walk is along a very nice and well kept boardwalk. We came back in the evenings around 9-10:00 and visited the local nightlife with live music. It's a young crowd (we're in our 50's) but not too young and fresh. The locals were very pleasant and helpful. Dimitri (the manager or ower) was very helpful with information as this was our first trip to the area. We will definitely want to stay there again and have recommended it to our friends. Thanks so much Dimitri

      Great Time!

Left on 04/25/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We had a fantastic time here, and can’t say enough about the property owner or location. Beautiful views of manhattan and extremely easy access to it by ferry or public transit both within walking distance. We had our two small children with us and found Hoboken to be very family friendly. Exellent zagat rated dinning and a couple blocks to organic markets/grocers/bodega’s . The apartment provided us with all we needed slept our family of four comfortably, was clean and extremely reasonable for the size/area/amenities! We found the property owner to be pleasant and helpful, if you are unfamiliar with the area you will have no trouble finding your way with the materials provided in the apartment ! Before we left we were planning our next visitJ
If you were looking for a Hoboken or New York vacation you'll be thrilled with it's location!

      Exactly as described

Left on 04/22/2010 for a stay in April 2010

I had some family members visiting town & I needed a comfortable & clean place for them to stay for a reasonable price. The apt. was as described online. It's in a nice place, a walking distance to a park & to the Hudson river walk. It's very close to path train & 126 bus that gets you in NY in around 30 min. The apt is clean & simple, you may find all the necessities there.
Dimitri was very helpful, he spent some time showing me all the close by transportation & guide to the town, even when I called him the next day to ask about parking he helpful & told me all the possible ways to park my car. The town has very strict rules for parking since it's very close to NY, so watch for that & read the signs. So for example if you want to spend the day in NY, you'd need to park in a parking lot which is around $32/day which is almost what you'd pay in NY.
I highly recommend this apt & will diffidently consider it again if the chance arises.

      Excellent value!

My cousin and I were planning a trip to NYC and decided to stay in Hoboken. We found this place on the web at the last minute and immediately inquired about the availability. We met Dimitri in front of the apartment and he provided us with great information on where to park, how to travel into the city, where to find a good viewing spot of NYC and some restaurant and market tips. He was incredibly kind and gracious.

The condo itself was a little on the older side and was not posh but incredibly clean, tidy and spacious for the two of us. It was also very affordable, located in a great area, just around the corner from Washington street, and was surprisingly very quiet. We were so close to all the public transport spots and great restaurants that I regretted not spending more time in Hoboken. I would definitely stay there again!

Great, convenient place in Hoboken, close to all the action in M

Left on 01/06/2010 for a stay in January 2010

We recently stayed in this flat in Hoboken and really liked it. It's simple, but clean and provided us with everything we wanted: an old and slow but working laptop with Internet connection, a TV set with a DVD player, clean bedding, towels, etc. It is only a 15 min bus ride to the Port Authority terminal on 42nd Street, which is close to all the places of interest in Manhattan, and it is also close to a supermarket, an upmarket deli/organic grocery store, and a whole string of local restaurants. We also found that staying in this flat in Hoboken was a pleasant respite of quietness and calm after the frenetic crowds in Manhattan, yet it was close and easy to return to after a day of sightseeing.

The owner was very helpful and friendly and even came to our rescue when we locked ourselves out on the first day! He also gave us various useful tips and answered all my questions before we arrived about transport, amenities, etc.

If you are looking for an upmarket, designer place with neutral, new and impersonal furnishings and effects, this flat is not for you. However, if you are looking for a clean, simple place to stay which has lots of personal, friendly and at times funny objects, mismatched chairs, some toys, etc, then this flat is great.

It comfortably sleeps three single people, and four at a pinch. A couple with a child or two would find it big enough. For us the only downside was that none of the rooms have proper doors and the double bed is in the room that everyone has to walk through to get to the loo! However, if you are OK with that, it really is a nice, homely and convenient place to stay while visiting New York. I would recommend it to my friends.
