Description from the owner

Indlovu River Lodge HOME OF THE BIG 5

Shingwedzi is one of three chalets that forms part of Indlovu (meaning elephant) River lodge. This fine old elephant bull of the wilds took his name from the Shingwedzi River and dominated this area of the Kruger Park for more than a decade.

When he eventually died, age 55, he fell with such force that his weight drove the ivory shaft of his right tusk more than a metre into the soft earth.

The chalet that bears his name sleeps four in the main house in two fantastic en suite rooms. A further two people can be accommodated in a secluded annex across the court yard.

      paradiesisch gelegene Lodge

Left on 08/03/2011 for a stay in March 2011

      A true big five experience

Left on 08/01/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We vissited Indlovu river lodge from 1 to 7 July 2011. The best seven days in a long lng time! We had amazing game sightings...all of the big five were spotted within the first three days of our stay. Then there were the most amazing birds, birds only to be seen at Indlovu river lodge;...trees,trees and more trees, trees standing tall for a hundred years and more!! Our evenings were spend around a "real" bushfire in our private boma. Here precious family time was spent and we could reflect on the day that past...a day closer to our next visit. "we will be back"

      Bushveld holiday of a lifetime!

Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The time that our family has spent at Indlovu River Lodge has been unforgetable! They offer an opportunity to experience the african bush in a way that very few lodges can - especially at such an affordable rate. The lodge itself offers self-catering luxury accomodation and the chance to view the game from your stoop overlooking the riverbed or the lookout on the grounds - this year we saw Rhino, giraffe, elephant, genet, civet, bush babies and a wide variety of buck without even leaving our stoop!
The game drives offer a unique opportunity to see the big five "up close and personal". The game rangers, Jonty and John, are very well qualified to offer information about the plants, insects, birds and animals that make it a unique experience. This year we were privileged to expereince the lions eating a blue wildebeest, the herd of elephants moving right past us and the two cheetah brothers - all within meters from where we were situated. Another highlight was the sundowner stop at Croc River in the evening, with an unbelievable view of the hippos and crocs.
Quiet evenings spent visiting next to the fire, enjoying a typical South african braaivleis and glass of wine, followed by smores for desert, make for the ideal end to a perfect day.
Thanks to Dawn and her staff for their unrivalled service and hospitality - we will be back!
