Description from the owner
TOTALLY RELAXING, SAYS IT ALL.
Set in tropical gardens, this gorgeous cottage is one of four properties on a 5 acre estate. With a panoramic view over Royal Westmoreland golf course in the east to the Caribbean Sea in the west, Gingerbread Cottage is high on a ridge with cool trade winds throughout the year. You can relax with a tropical drink on the large covered deck, watch the troop of monkeys that regularly wander by or just laze in the hammock with a good book. The property is very nicely furnished with 2 bedrooms, one queen size the other twin or king, all linen and beach towels provided with a laundry service for these items. The...Read more

Richmond, CanadaPerfect place to stay
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My husband, son and partner and I stayed here for a week in March. Carol arranged our car for us and the whole experience was wonderful. The cottage is perfect for 4 people. Everything you could need is provided, and the hosts go out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. It is just a few minutes from Holetown where there are some great restaurants, and driving the island is a breeze. Highly recommend Gingerbread cottage for a Barbadian adventure..we will be back!!

Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We arrived late 7pm ish (plane delayed due to Sandy) and as soon as we arrived Carol welcomed us and told us to take a late swim if we wanted, not to worry about anything and just have fun.
The cottage was exactly as the pictures showed.
It was clean and had everything we needed.
Good shower with lots of hot water.
Nice comfy beds and lots of towels for the beach and the bath.
Toilet roll and soap.
The kitchen had everything - plenty of plates, cups, glasses and bowls etc. A large fridge and washing up liquid too.
There was a washing machine behind the pool but as the weather was so wonderful we spent most of our time in swimming costumes and so did not need to use it.
The grounds were lovely and we saw monkeys most days.
The pool was lovely and we had it all to ourselves most of the time- the kids really had a lovely time at the pool and using the diving board.
There is an excellent selection of books and a TV with Cable for a good variety of channels ( including 4/5 movie channels).
There was not a DVD player but Dick offered one for use straight away - we declined as the TV was enough.
The veranda was a real plus and we spent lots of evenings sitting out after eating and chatting or playing cards with the kids.
We felt very safe at all times.
Carol and Dick were lovely checking everything was ok and letting us know what events were on every couple of days but they also left us to ourselves.
Some other bits:
You really need a car to get around - beaches 10 minutes away - we liked Gibbs / Mullens and Paynes.
Supermarket in Holetown had everything you needed and again was 10 minutes away and has a web sight so you can look at times etc before arriving - Super Centre.
Next to the supermarket is a petrol station too.
Several good places to eat in Holetown.
Our only suggestion would be a draining board for washing up and mosquito nets at the bedroom windows so that you can have a breeze all night long - we would not have wanted air con it would have spoilt the cottage.
One day we hope to come back and enjoy it all again. -

I have never written a proactive positive review before, but have felt compelled to do so after a wonderful fortnight holiday. It is worth staying for the setting alone - the view from the veranda is stunning. You will want a hire car as it’s a good five mins drive from Holetown / the nearest beach – and well worth exploring the beaches down towards Spitestown (spelling??).
While there are other cottages within the grounds we felt like we had the place to ourselves – and the owners provided all we needed while giving us our privacy.
Our daughter is almost two and loved the trip as much as we did – she is still excited about the monkeys that paid us a visit. The pool is a good size and a stone’s throw from the cottage while being a safe distance for an over adventurous toddler. We very much hope to return. -

ViennaHappy days at Gingerbread Cottage
Left on 02/13/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We,a family of four with two teenagers, spent 10 very happy days at Gingerbread Cottage. The cottage is absolutely charming and the location just stunning. You are so close to nature - our children ate coconuts and passionfruit straight from the trees. The garden is beautifully maintained and we often went for a walk, took our old bananas and fed them to the monkeys at the bottom of the valley. There is a nice breeze most of the time and that means hardly any mosquitos. The pool is huge and has the right amount of sun and shade. Gingerbread Cottage is equipped with everything you need and Carol and her family were very helpful and made us feel special. You do need a car to get to the beaches and shops. We enjoyed the freedom of not staying in a hotel.
Thank you to Carol and her family - we will be back! -

Gingerbread cottage is a cute chatel house ideal for two or four people. Situated in the hills above Hole town which is 5 mins away by car. The rental included a car. We stayed for one month in the delightful surroundings. Dick and Carol and Lottie were friendly, helpful and discrete and proved to be very interesting and sociable. The cottage was lovely and enabled us to live out doors on the veranda overlooking the countryside with views of the sea and Royal Westmoorland golf complex. The pool is large and the area around it has a kitchen and BBQ, chairs, tables and loungers. We hope we can return again in the not too distant future.

We recently returned from our second stay at Gingerbread Cottage. It may not be the most glamourous compared to other rentals, (no air con, marble floors, plasma TV, maid service etc) but it is very comfortable for a family holiday.
The Cottage is very pretty and cute with great views down the valley across Royal Westmoorland down to the sea. There is a great pool, shared with 2 other rentals, but during our stay we had the pool to ourselves most of the time.
It is located opposite Suger Hill, and is a short drive into Holetown, so great for exploring and getting to the beaches.
The owners Carol & Dick are really welcoming and helpful, and also provided a hire car during our stay.
Thoroughly recomend it for a small family looking for a relaxing holiday away from the crowds and the larger developments. -

We would like to say thank you to Carol and her family for her great hospitality. We had a wonderful time at your cottage. We enjoyed the pool and the huge porch every day. The location is perfect for exploring the wonderful and very interesting island. The children are still talking about their adventures almost every day.
We hope very much to come back some day!

A Must Return
Ontario CanadaIdeal Barbados holiday
Left on 01/04/2010 for a stay in November 2009
We stayed for 2 weeks a Gingerbread Cottage. What a beautiful location. The cottage is 2 "Chattel Houses" put together to make one delightful cottage with a large wrap around veranda. Also on the property are 2 other villas, all this on several acres of land. It may lack the opulence of a Marriott but it has a charm that a big hotel can never have. We ate our "at home" meals on the porch where we could find shade and there was usually a cooling breeze. There are many restaraunts in the area but we did stray all over the island from this location. The owners made suggestions about activities and places of interest that were helpful. This has been a very pleasant and sucessfull vacation and a definite "must return". The swimming pool was a great feature of the property. It is large deep and well cared for. We only went to the ocean to swim 3 times in the 2 weeks and we visualized an ocean swim every day. In fact it was the pool about 3 times a day. If there was something I didn't like about this property it was relligated to the background by all the things we did like. The owners were always available and we were well looked after by Carol and Richard. I have said nothing about the tropical flowers but I must leave something for you to find yourself.

Carol and her family are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We loved Gingerbread Cottage for its fabulous setting, (including big open spaces for our teenage boys to play football, cricket etc), fantastic views and use of the private pool. The property is very clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you need. We were not put off by the fact that you need to have a car and we have already booked our third visit to this truly wonderful property together with friends and family!

We have been staying at Gingerbread Cottage for
about 5 years and it is our haven. The view form
the terrace is stunning especially whilst swinging
gently in the hammock! The cottage is well equipped
and beautifully decorated and everything is kept
spotless. Carol provides loads of towels including
beach/pool towels.
The swimming pool and its terraces have stopped us
going to the beach we love it so much.
We love to barbecue fresh fish by the pool and pick
fresh limes off the tree in the garden for our rum
and coke!
Carol, Dick and Lottie provide the highest
standards of service whilst keeping a low profile
so as not to interfere with your holiday - unless
you want them to of course! Carol seems to be able
to supply just about anything you ask for and Dick
is always around to fix anything that needs fixing.
There is nothing that we don't like about
Gingerbread Cottage.
I was loathe to write this review because I really
don't want more people knowing about this wonderful
place.

If you are looking for a true tropical experience dont miss staying at the Gingerbread Cottage. If you are looking for a place that is clean, comfortable, private, with tremendous beauty choose to stay here. With a georgous view, constant breeze for cooling down, swimming pool, hammock for relaxing, huge sundeck for that outdoor living, beautiful gardens and well keep grounds and many sightings of the monkeys dont miss staying at the Gingerbread Cottage. This has been my favorite place to stay on the island being so close to beaches, stores, restaurants and entertainment I would not miss it.

Orange County, California & Toronto, CanadaA Slice of Eden at the Romantic Gingerbread Cottage.
Left on 07/03/2009 for a stay in June 2009
After hunting around on the web for the best place, my husband and I decided on the Gingerbread cottage to celebrate our first anniversary/honeymoon. The photos on the website made the cottage look beautiful, cozy, and romantic. It was in fact all of these things and more. The cottage is situated on five acres of property, but stands near the main house, pool, and other two villas for rent. We absolutely loved the cottage! We spent three days at the cottage, reading from the great set of books provided at the cottage and hanging out by the pool, before we even wanted to check out the rest of the island. The view is spectacular from the cottage! The island birds visited us every morning and we even spent a morning feeding the wild monkeys behind the cottage, totally thrilling! The property owner, Carol, also helped us get situated on our first day by arranging a ride for us to the grocery store and back. The reality of the cottage is that it is rustic, not a typical hotel room. In the evening, the sunset is spectacular to watch as well as the fireflies, but bring bug spray because there are mosquitoes. We slept really well in the bedroom despite the lack of AC. The air is so amazing in Barbados that I'm glad we didn't need AC. My husband and I dined at some of the other hotels in Barbados, like the Royal Fairmont and Crane Resort. What we realized is that we had much more privacy, seclusion, and beauty at the cottage. I felt like we were in a movie most of the time at the Cottage. The last thing I might mention is that it's not on the beach, but you can take a ten-fifteen minute walk to it. The walk is exciting and we also saw monkeys on the way. My husband and I realized that we always had more fun doing nothing at the cottage than going into town or driving the roads to different tourist spots. It was truly a slice of Eden and we have amazing memories for life!
