The Perfect Weekend away Ever ... please let me live there!!!

Left on 06/08/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Me and my 6 friends went to cottage to celebrate my friends 21st birthday and we had the best weekend ever! I can not even start to describe to you all how amazing the cottage was. We hadn’t even left and we were already trying to plan when we would be going back!
Phillippa was absolutely fantastic even before we got there every silly little question she answered and as a super over organised person it put me at ease.
The photos on here don’t even show you have gorgeous the cottage is! We all want to win the lottery and buy it now!! The lounge was great for all of us to congregate at night and chill out! The kitchen was great we cooked for ourselves almost all weekend and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. All of the bedrooms were gorgeous and so comfy and what can I say about that gorgeous bath tub!! It is the most gorgeous cottage with all the bare beams it is absolutely gorgeous!
We even decorated the lounge area and threw a surprise Big Bang Theory Party for the birthday girl and it looked great!
All the animals on the grounds were great we love Neil and amber the sheep! We love the cat coming to say hello on a morning and the dogs were gorgeous.
We were very lucky to have gorgeous warm weather so we spent all weekend in the gorgeous hot tub drinking lots of champagne! It was the perfect last touch to the cottage and we have all agreed to go back as soon as possible.
We went to The Red Lion pub where we had a gorgeous pub meal and great service! We especially loved the traditional phone box in the village where it was stocked with books that you could borrow!!
Thank you for a great weekend Phillippa and we can’t wait to come back!!!

Amazing welcome - owners went out of their way to make our week

Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We can't rate this beautiful property and our stay highly enough. This cottage had everything we needed and more besides. We stayed with our two young children (7 and 8) and had some friends and their two children stay as a surprise for husband's 40th.
We catered mostly for ourselves as we are keen cooks and found the kitchen was fully stocked with all the kitchenalia we could need. The property was warm, clean, homely - just relaxing, especially with the hot tub.
Phillipa, Julian and their family including the animals (a bonus for our children) were always so welcoming and we knew that if we had had any problems then they would have done everything they could to rectify this during our stay. They immediately felt more like friends of old than simply the property owners.
Given that it is a barn conversion, the upstairs bedroom makes good use of the loft space but in doing so it does have a low bed - husband is 6'2", so long way down for him.
This property is ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a great location and a real treat.
Our children would especially like to thank Max, Flirty and Dave (the dogs), Archie (the cat) and Neil, Lulu and Dusty (the sheep) - apologies to those they have failed to mention.
We are sure that any one else staying at this property will appreciate and respect the thought and effort that has gone into making this a holiday home rather than a holiday let.

Perfect-cosy, clean, bubbles, quaint, views, pubs, walks, wine,

Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Visited The Mews for a weekend at the beginning of January with 7 of my friends for a cosy leaving do before I leave for australia in a couple of weeks. We chose this property due to the fact it had a hottub big enough for us all and we were not disappointed!! The pictures do not do it justice - it is such a pretty place - so clean and cosy and big without losing that imtimate feeling. We were very lucky with the weather - it was very mild & dry so we walked to the Red Lion on our first evening there - a very friendly, cosy local pub with proper pub grub at proper pub grub prices! We went for a walk around surrounding areas the next day and stopped at The Yew Tree for a nice refreshing drink on the way back. We took a drive into nearby ashbourne in the afternoon to replenish alcohol supplies and have some chips and a cream tea :) That evening was spent soley surrounding by bubbles - of the alchol variety in our glasses and in the water surrounding us - the definite highlight of the weekend!!! It was such a luxury and just made our stay that much better. Both mornings we enjoyed breakfast all together sat around the table and the lviing room was lovely and big enough for us all to sit comfortably on an evening. Have already recommended this property and would go again if I wasn't going away!Owner was also called Philippa (very unusual for me to come across another Philippa) and was very friendly & welcoming. We all loved every single second of our stay :)

The best cottage you will ever stay in

Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012

As soon as we arrived felt at home we were met by the owners who are wonderful and can't do enough for you. The mews are breath taking no expense has been spared even feather quilts. The hot tub is amazing on an evening with glass of wine overlooked by a field of sheep of which Neil the sheep is very much in charge. He alone is worth the visit such a character. The pub down the road Red Lion is fantastic food well worth a visit. Overall wonderful place wonderful family who run it and of course the pets are fab. We will book again and bring all our friends.

Best holiday let we have ever stayed in!!

Left on 05/28/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I can not rate this holiday let higher!! The property is fantastic and although the photos look amazing on the website, they really don't do the property justice!!
We were greeted by the owner, who could not have been friendlier. This is the first property that we have rented that we felt at ease with the owner and could really relax and enjoy our stay!
The owner could not have been more helpful and even let me have some paracetamol for a headache! (The nearest shop is a drive away and while this is probably a good thing, you do have to be organised?!!)
My 4 year old daughter loved the animals, especially the sheep she befriended. We have had two outbursts of tears since our return (only yesterday!!) about not being able to go and feed and play with the sheep!
I would definately would like to return for another break away and would definately recommend to others (in fact we have already!!)

      Fantastic holiday

Left on 11/28/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We had a super stay at the Mews. The owners were friendly and approachable, happy for us to arrive before the usual check in time as it was available. The cottage was spotless, cosy and welcoming. The beds are extremely comfortable. There were some crumpets, butter, milk and jam laid out for our arrival, and other small touches like dishwasher tablets/washing powder.
The hot tub was superb, especially in the evening with a glass of wine!
We had 4 young children with us and this presented no problem, they loved feeding the sheep at the back of our property!
My mum also rented the Retreat and it was of a similar high standard.
Only minor problem was although the owner kindly lent us her code for internet access, we could only pick up a signal by standing near the front door. Probably not a major problem if you are on holiday but we did need to spend a fair amount of time online for work purposes.
We look forward to returning next year for another family break!

Very comfortable, clean and well maintained cottage

Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We arrived excited about our family holiday and were greeted cordially by our hostess. The cottage was clean and welcoming. Our every need was met. When the fridge freezer broke down it was replaced within 24 hours with no fuss. The hot tub was great and our hostess took great care maintaining it.
An excellent cottage, spacious for the six of us and really well equipt.
      Highly recommended

Lovely welcoming hosts... warm cottage... pub close by... and the hot tub in the snow was fabulous fun!
We take a few trips a year as a group of friends, and until now have never found a cottage we've like enough to return to! Just hope I haven't left it too late to book again!

Peace and Quiet in the country

Left on 12/02/2009 for a stay in August 2008

Loved our stay in this cottage. It was beautifully decorated and the hot tub was a real bonus. The view at the back was a highlight - we would come back from a day out and either sit in the hot tub or sit with a cup of tea on the patio chairs and watch the sheep grazing in the fields. Very relaxing. The owners were very friendly. It was nice to arrive and find milk in the fridge and a cake on the side!! Lots to see and do - especially liked the National Trust properties of which there were many and the Crown Derby factory tour was a real treat.
