Stoughton, Mass"I am in heaven!!!"
Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in February 2013
"I am in heaven," my wife said the first morning we were at the Kona View Estate. "Look how good my hair looks. Even it's happy to be here." We have been very fortunate to have visited all 50 of our States and have seen many foreign countries through cruises we have taken. But Kona View Estate is the best place we have ever stayed...It begins with co-owners Randy and atsumi, who live adjacent to the rental so they are there if you have any problems..The unit has a large bedroom with a master bath. There is a large living room that leads to a fully-equipped kitchen. Off the kitchen, there is a washer-drier...There is also a deck off the bedroom and living room and you sit there and look out at Kona bay. There is also a gas grill should you choose to cook out...Also, there is an infinity pool and hot tub right there on the property and we made use of both...Randy is also a great resource for information on places to see and eat on the Big Island...The unit is situated on a coffee plantation that Randy and atsumi own. On the first morning, there was a pound of their coffee waiting for us. And, there is nothing better than Kona coffee...This is a perfect place if you are looking for a restful, peaceful place to say. But, if you are looking to be close to a bigger town with places to shop and excellent restaurants, then you are a short drive to Kailua-Kona...Should we ever return to the Big Island (It's a long way from our home in Boston.), or should we have friends planning to visit this beautiful island, we will be sure to recommend Kona View Estate.

Tacoma, WashingtonA Great spot away From The Crowds
Left on 02/19/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Having previously been to all of the islands and stayed mostly in beachfront resorts, we were looking for a more secluded spot, away from the tourist frenzy and found it at Kope Cottage. The owners, Randy and atsumi, provide a warm welcome and are available to provide a local perspective on things to do and places to eat. The photos on Vrbo accurately reflect the room layout, however, they don't do justice to all the little details that Randy and atsumi have thought of. Things like fresh flowers and coffee from the property, umbrellas in case it rains, a cooler and ice packs for those foraging expeditions, all sorts of beach gear, and pretty much all the basics in the kitchen to prepare anything you'd like.
The kitchen has a full refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, a large toaster oven, a two-burner hot plate, a rice cooker (even chop sticks), but no oven. This is certainly not a problem since there is a new gas grill on the lanai which we used almost every night. The internet connection is superb, even better than at home and there is a Hdtv if you must (we didn't except for the Super Bowl). The cottage has a new he washer and dryer along with all of the laundry products one could want. Hint: don't pack a lot, you can wash those t-shirts here.
Town and shopping (Safeway, Costco, KTa) are convenient and this is a great base for exploring the island. Volcanoes National Park is a nice day trip as is Hilo over the Saddle Road (which we were surprised to find was one of the best roads on the island). Another plan ahead tip: the Mauna Kea Observatories would be a memorable activity, best experienced when the moon isn't full.
Best of all: either hanging out by the pool and hot tub or coming back at the end of a day of exploring to have that gin and tonic on your private lanai while watching the sun set over Kona and the Pacific Ocean. -

LuxembourgWonderful vacation
Left on 09/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We rented Kope Cottage at Kona View Estate from Randy and atsumi during the first half of august 2012. What a beautiful place! The estate is a coffee plantation in the hills above Kona with a magnificent view of Kona bay. The cottage is part of the house and has a master bedroom, a grand living room with a kitchen and a full bath. It is very well equipped with everything one needs for a great vacation and everything is brand new.
The infinity swimming pool and the jacuzzi are wonderful. There is nothing like soaking in the warm and watching the sun set. The view, be it in the morning or evening, is stunning. And Kona is perfectly located for going to beaches and discovering Big Island.
My wife very much enjoyed structural integration and gyrotonic exercises with atsumi, who is a very competent and professional instructor. This was a new experience for her and, together with swimming, guaranteed us a perfect and healthy vacation.
Atsumi and Randy are wonderful hosts and they provided us with their home grown coffee, which we miss very much back in Luxembourg. A wonderful vacation!

My family and I had an excellent time during our stay. The accomodations were bright, sunny, clean and comfortable. The pool, hot tub, deck, view, property and coffee fields added up to a peaceful experience. The owners were always accessable yet never intrusive. They are very kind and have great advice for adventures around the island. The little artist town down the road was worth the visit. The coffee and fresh fruit given to us from off of the property was a nice bonus.

JapanExcellent view, wonderful stay
Left on 08/25/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We often use Vrbo for our trip and were mostly satisfied. This time, I believe it was the best of all.
First, when I was interested in this property, Randy gave us a quick response with tons of information. Soon after that, Atsumi, his wife, wrote to us in Japanese and helped us to get many tips. So we did not have any worries about our stay even before we leave Japan. There was everything we need, not only the kitchen items including a rice cooker but also detergents, shampoos, sun blocks, and items for beach. In addition, there was a dish of welcome fruits and coffee from their farm.
The stay was more wonderful than we expected. The view from the window was spectacular. It was so comfortable because of lower temperature and humidity than that of Japan. Of course, there was no need of air conditioner.
Our sons, 13 & 10 years old, enjoyed the pool and Jacuzzi. (We recommend swimming in the morning rather than afternoon because we may have shower every afternoon.)
They also loved a farm tour that atsumi gave us. They were excited about harvesting a variety of fruits during the tour.
My husband was happy to use a well equipped BBQ grill by the pool. The dinner at pool side was unforgettable for us.
We always felt comfortable because we could ask anything to our supervisor next to us. We really want to come back one day.
Thanks again Randy and atsumi,
With our warmest regards,
-

Brooklyn, NYAmazing Views! Perfect Place to Stay When Visiting the Kona Coas
Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We stayed in the Kope Cottage for four nights upon arrival on The Big Island. The views are matchless, the cottage is immaculate and has everything you would need or want. The use of the jacuzzi and pool are a relaxing end to a day exploring the coast and Holualoa hills. Our hosts were tremendously helpful with advice and information when asked, and gave us plenty of space and privacy to ourselves. They're aloha welcome includes coffee from their farm and papayas and bananas from their trees. It must be repeated that the views from the lanai are gorgeous. And the cottage's proximity to town and the beaches is very convenient.
We loved staying here and would definitely stay again when we return for a visit.

Ceylon, Sask3 weeks in paradise!
Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Our first time on the Big Island of Hawaii could not have been better and our positive perspectives were greatly impacted by our stay at the cottage owned by Randy and atsumi. Where do we start... Attention to detail is evident from the time we booked the property right through to our departure. The ultra clean cottage is the perfect size for a couple, large bedroom with the comfortable king bed, and although there is not a stove, it was not needed. We used the BBQ for just about every meal and the hot plate and microwave worked fine for the rest of our cooking needs. Our hosts provided lots of extras such as fresh apple bananas, mangos and avacados all grown on the property. The fresh ground coffee grown on the property is amazing and we purchased a number of lbs over our 3 week stay. The pool and hot tub are just as described and the views are breathtaking whether you are sitting on the lanai or soaking in the hot tub or pool. We did lots of sight seeing around the island and the location provided easy access to the main highways. Shopping is close by for both food and anything else you may need. As we were there for 3 weeks, we did our initial food purchases at Costco and there is a Safeway and other smaller grocery stores close by as well. We enjoyed visiting with Randy and atsumi and they provided advise on places to see, the best beaches and anything else we needed to know about the area. The cottage has restricted access to the pool deck if there are guests in the other suite, however we were never inconvenienced by this arrangement. Our wireless internet was not working consistently when we arrived and Randy quickly rectified the situation. (needed to Skype the grandkids!!) Thanks again for an amazing vacation. Would highly recommend this property.

Left on 04/03/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Our family of four stayed at the Kona View Estate over our Canadian March break. The location is a superb tropical hillside overlooking the Kona coastline. The owners were discreet and extremely helpful. We took full advantages of the amazing decks, hot tub and infinity pool. Like many, we had great intentions of visiting the oceanview health club, but spent more time barbequing and eating in the gourmet kitchen. The pictures on the website, while beautiful, do not do the property justice. The ceiling heights are soaring, and we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the starlight and overlooking views of Kona at night. You will not regret choosing this property- we've stayed in wonderful places throughout the world- and this may have been the best.

Kope Cottage's lanai provides an unbelievable view of miles of coast and ocean. There's also fresh fruit and flowers, and home grown, private label Kona coffee, all from the property. The owners are friendly and helpful, but not smothering. This was a nice experience for us.

We enjoyed stay to Vista Suite as 2 people. The location is on the coffee belt close to UCC cofffee shop, 20-30 mins from airport. This location is not so hot than beach area. There are 2 bed room with ocean view and huge lanai. The entrance is shared with the owner and the Rental Suite located left side. Owner is really nice and easy access , if we would like to ask sometings. The Suite provided some extra facility like beach equipments, chair ,towel, sheet etc. I also enjoyed the Hot Tab and wonderful ocean view pool during stay and BBQ Grill . I could see the Kona town and memorable sun set in the pool. The owner owned coffee farm. They served excellent cup of fresh air roasted own kona coffee with homemade desert.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The house is very nice, very well equipped, has great views from all rooms. The pool has incredible views and the temperature is fine (heating system). The owners live next to the house, they are very reactive when you need them. They were almost invisible when we did not need them. So we defintely recommend this great place!

Boulder, CO 80302A Great Vacation Rental
Left on 08/03/2011 for a stay in March 2011
In mid-March (2011) my wife and I stayed five nights in Vista Suite, and what a unique and luxurious lodging it is. Two bedrooms were more than we needed, so it seemed palatial. Everything is new and spotless, and the furnishings are smart and comfortable. The view over the coffee fields and out to the ocean is breathtaking. My wife raved about the well-equipped kitchen, and we both loved the hot tub, pool, and the new fitness facility-a particularly neat perk. (Did I mention Randy's memorable Kona Kappuccinos?) What else could anyone wish for?
Randy and atsumi are the perfect hosts--unobtrusive but attentive when needed. Their enthusiasm for Hawaii is contagious, and they're full of great ideas for activities, sight-seeing, restaurants, etc. They gave us directions to one of the most beautiful beaches we've ever seen-Makalawena (actually a series of coves/beaches). Maybe because it's remote and involves a bit of a hike to reach, it was virtually deserted. True Paradise!
When we return to this special property, we'll bring another couple with us to share the fun--and the space. -

Boulder, COThe perfect vacation: a cozy cottage in paradise
Left on 05/15/2011 for a stay in March 2011
My husband and I spent several nights during the last week of March 2011 at Kope Cottage, the separate guest house that Randy and atsumi have recently opened at Kona View Estate. We stayed last year in Vista Suite, but for only two of us, the cottage sounded ideal--and we were eager to return. It is too wonderful for words--spacious, bright, and comfortable--with the same amazing views of the Kona coast that the main house enjoys. The setting is perfect, overlooking the coffee plantation (the trees were in bloom, covered in "Kona snow”), high above the fray, and the heat, of the town below. Kope is lovely to come home to after an active day, with the option of a swim or hot tub soak and a quiet dinner on the lanai. We took full advantage of the new fitness room, with its elliptical trainer, treadmill, and more of that ocean view. One day I purchased a one-hour introduction to Gyrotonic exercise with atsumi, which I loved! We played golf at the nearby Makalai course, the one with peacocks and peahens vying for your attention. The course is unique, in good condition, and reasonably priced--a great recommendation from Randy. It was a magical vacation--we had nary a complaint. We'll be back!

i can't believe how lucky we were to be able to book this wonderful Presidential Suite during the Lavaman Triathlon. What a deal! Two large bathrooms, even washer and dryer. Fresh coffee every morning and any requests were immediately satisfied. The professionalism and ease with which we communicated was, for me, just terrific. I like the fact it was away from the busy triathlon scene so we could enjoy being together as a family. The home is roomy, very inviting and the view just spectecular. We didn't use the amenities, like pool and jacuzzi as much as we liked it, because we were busy, but they certainly were available. All things considered, this will be my only address in Kona the next time I visit. Hopefully, I'll be able to get in.
