Concord, CASanctuary for rest and rejuvenation
Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The Banana Bungalow exceeded our expectations. It is a quiet private sanctuary in a lush tropical garden. We are going to miss the apple bananas and papayas, picked from the garden, and Bawana estate coffee every morning on the lanai. A room with a spectacular view. The king bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. After our excursions, we looked forward to retreating for rest and relaxation. We also chose to stay at the bungalow one day to enjoy the views, listen to the birds and just hang out. I can't say that for any hotel or resort condo.
Steve's coffee roasting and tour of electrical collectibles was fun, informative and an absolute "must do" during your stay. We have chosen to join the coffee club as a gift to ourselves to prolong the experience.
Susan and Steve are perfect hosts. There if you need them but respectful of your privacy.
You must have a 4 wheel drive to comfortably get to this little piece of heaven and some might find a late night return up the road an adventure. We did not find this to be an issue for us.

Caledon, Ontario, CanadaPeaceful Paradise !!
Left on 05/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We have visited the Jungle Cottage 3 times and would return again ! It is a little piece of the world that is unspoiled by traffic and noise. You can sit on the Lanai at any time of day and get a different perspective each time. The sunsets are beautiful !! The cottage is clean and comfy and is well equipped for cooking and there is a BBQ to cook your favourite meal on. There is also equipment to go on a picnic at a nearby beach or picnic ground.
As you look around from the lanai there is a multitude of fruit trees as well as the coffee trees, mac nut trees, flowers and birds of every description. We enjoy the fresh fruit daily and the incredible coffee freshly roasted by our host, Steve.
All in all this little piece of heaven has become our favourite place to come to unwind and be peaceful.
You will need a vehicle to get around, preferably one that has high suspension as the road in is in poor condition. Once you are past that you are definitely in paradise !! -

Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in April 2013
An absolute slice of heaven!! We had the best week in the Tiki Hut with our young child. The island is so beautiful and the property is certainly no exception. We loved the coffee and the roasting experience...Steve's roaster is something that should not be missed! A truly once in a lifetime experience. Great fruit everywhere too! We'll definitely be back and have already recommended the Tiki Hut to all our friends looking for a great place to enjoy paradise. Perfect amenities, privacy, view and what a great patio!! What a fabulous experience we had! Thanks Susan and Steve! We hope to make it back soon!!

Winnemucca, NevadaRomantic Hawaiian Escape
Left on 03/05/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Once upon a time two people fell in love and went to Hawaii to wed. They stayed happily ever after... and created an exotic paradise to share with others. Three beautiful bungalows on a hillside overlooking the ocean and surrounded by lush gardens filled with singing birds and fruit ripe for the picking. Our hosts Steve and Susan saw to our every need while we relaxed for 7 days in the Banana Bungalow. The working coffee plantation supplied our daily elixer while Steve shared an entertaining and informative coffee roasting. Like the sign at the Shave Ice Shop down the road, "If you are in a hurry go someplace else"... BwanaBobs is not the place to go if you seek the excitement of traffic, crowds and a hotel pool filled with tourists. Go here to recharge your life and rejuvenate your romance!

Homer and Anchorage, AlaskaA romantic, oasis in the trees
Left on 02/12/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We rented the Tiki Hut, which is just perfect for the couple that wants to get away from the bustling Kona. From the kitchen set up, the games, the satellite tv/dvd player, the internet reception and the gazebo that lit up each night, just outside our doors ~ it felt like if we'd wanted to we could really just spend our vacation hanging out if we wanted. Steve had us over for his Steam Punk Coffee Roasting and that was a treat. His collection of steam punk gizmo's gadgets and historical electronics was amazing! For me, the only downside was the road from the highway up to the property is a little rough (4wd is a good idea) but I began to enjoy that when we began to see different critters on that part of the road.

If you want to be surrounded by fruit trees and flowers amid a coffee plantation this is the place for you. It's a bouncy road up the hill but the nights are cool and days are warm at this altitude. Lots of birds will greet you in the morning as you have your fresh local coffee on your deck. And Steve's roasting demonstration is fun, he's an interesting guy. The Jungle Cottage is my favorite.

santa cruzAmazing Tiki Hut Experience at Bwana Bob's!
Left on 01/14/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We spent an amazing week at the Tiki Hut at Bwana Bob's coffee plantation. Susan gave us a huge basket of fruit from the property that we made smoothies with every day. The Tiki Hut itself is decorated with tikis and frogs and is really comfortable with a nice bed, kitchen and bathroom. We even had books and movies to choose from. Our favorite thing to do was to walk around and marvel at all the fruit and flowers that are on the property. The place is so well manicured, I have no idea how they keep it up. The pond and bird sounds were a great way to wake up in the morning. We loved having our own gazebo to eat in at night or for breakfast. We love smashing our own macadamia nuts out of the shell, too. We loved going to the best beach for snorkeling, which is Two step or Honaunau which is only a ten minute drive from the house. It was a quiet retreat with all the comforts of a very nice home. The boogie board, chairs, cooler and umbrella that Susan and Bob provided really helped make us more comfortable on our daily adventures. I would definitely stay here again!
We loved everything!Response from Your Hosts, Susan & Steve at BwanaBobs Plantation - 02/12/2013

Anne, thank you for the wonderful review. We only wish you two were coffee drinkers so we could have thrilled you even more with Steve's new Coffee Roasting Show down in his mad scientist's Frankenstein Laboratory! We had hardly any contact other than checking you in...thanks for being so self sufficient...we hope you'll come back anytime you need to just rest. California is such a short trip over here! and it's where we hail from too. Thanks again, Susan and Steve

After a nice stay in Kihei, Maui with its busy pace, the peace and quiet of beautiful Banana Bungalow was a dream. Wonderful deck overlooking the jungle garden with the sun setting over the ocean in the distance - perfect. The bungalow had all the comforts of home, including spices in the kitchen and tolietries in the bath.
Our hosts were very attentive to our comfort and privacy.

We really enjoyed staying in the jungle cottage. It's a great place to get away from all the noise and city. We enjoyed having coffee and breakfast outside on the Lanai. Katy, TexasFantastic 'real Hawaii' experience for couples - secluded & gorg
Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We stayed in the Tiki Hut cottage in late January and early February 2012, and had a wonderful time. The property is beautiful with many fruit trees, macadamia nut trees, and your choice of coffee (this is a working coffee farm). It is secluded, yet has good access to restuarants and groceries (within about 5 miles). The view is every bit as good as the pictures on the website - it is as advertised! We were a bit uncertain about the access road before we booked the cottage, but found the 5 minute trek up the road from highway quite easy in our jeep (any good 2 wheel drive with some clearance will have no problems) - it was actually a lot of fun each day! Volcano National park is easily accessible, as are other great locations - we had no difficulty seeing the island sights. The owners are gracious hosts, and give you privacy (but are there if something is needed). If you are looking for granite counter tops and high end restuarants (in a resort with lots of other people), then this location is not for you. But if you want to stay in an absolutely gorgeous location and drink your freshly ground Kona coffee while eating fresh fruit and macadamias (all grown on this property!), while viewing the pacific ocean, then this is for you. Try a real hawaii location and experience - we cannot wait for our next return visit!

We didn't want to leave! We can't believe how lucky we were to have found this place. It's was better than we ever expected and we will be back. Susan and Steve are wonderful folks who made our first visit to Hawaii an experience we will never forget. They were there if we needed something and were full of great information and suggestions. We had all the fresh fruit we wanted...just had to go out and pick it off the trees! There is nothing we didn't like about this place.

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in December 2011
My wife and I searched online for a cottage for our honeymoon and discovered Bwana Bob's. What we found was exactly what was advertised. Jungle Cottage is very well maintained with nothing broken down or in disrepair. It's tastefully decorated with thematic masks and paintings, fresh flowers, and exotic fruit. The cottage is on the side of a hill with the deck overlooking an exquisite garden, palm trees, banana trees, coffee plants, and the ocean. The view is quite spectacular. The location is in a pretty secluded spot south of Kona. Banana Bungalow is fairly close but separated by lush vegetation, so my wife and I didn't consider privacy an issue at all. As you will read in almost every review, and in Susan's write-up, the driveway is very bumpy, and visitors should heed Susan's advice on what kind of vehicle to rent. 10 minutes up the road in the city of Captain Cook is some of the best snorkeling anywhere. About 1-1/2 hours east is Volcano park, where we hiked through jungle and across a 1-1/2 mile volcano crater bed, saw the lava flows and walked through a lava tube. 45 minutes north in Hapuna is a top-rated sandy beach for boogie-boarding. My wife and I are runners, and got in some great hill training on the roads in the area. We did a zipline adventure over jungles and waterfalls. Also important to us -- we found a good, Bible-based church called Bible First Mission Church about 10 minutes up the road. Positives: Beautiful setting, almost endless activities (we got many of our ideas from "Hawaii - The Big Island Revealed"); very well maintained cottage and garden, delicious and free coffee; peaceful and quiet; competitively priced. Negatives: May be too secluded for the more gregarious types, and the driveway is very bumpy (need to take it slow). Overall, it's a wonderful experience and Susan goes to great lengths to make sure you are satisfied. 5 stars easily.

Bend OregonPerfect fit
Left on 02/28/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We travel quite a bit, and B'wana Bob's gets our top rating...and we are a critical couple!. We found the Banana Bungalow a perfect fit to experience the Big Island...a warm secluded bungalow on a quiet country setting. To begin with, the bungalow is perfectly furnished and equipped for Hawaii, from style to the electric juicer (and on-site oranges, grapefruits, lemons and macadamia nuts to pick!) to the fresh from-the farm Kona coffee beans to the snorkeling gear and beach chairs.
Location on the 3-acre tropical garden-like property provides seclusion, quiet, and security...No worries about locking your car or bungalow here. A romantic setting and retreat may sound corny but the description fits. Amazing flowers and garden yard, as well as wild birds galore from the beautiful safron finch to the banded and spotted dove.
A cosy and romantic place, but still with proximity to good beaches, Kona itself, and the major historical and tourist attractions... short relatively easy drives.
For us a perfect fit.
