Description from the manager
Shaded by a glorious banyan tree, this home feels like an elegantly decorated tree house only steps away from the ocean. Decorated in an elegant hawaiian style, the property has a lush courtyard garden under a large banyan tree. It is idealy located, permitting access to Waikiki and all it has to offer, while living in a tranquil hawaiiian home. Conveniently located about 10 minutes outside of Waikiki, 5 minutes from Kahala Mall and 10 minutes to Hanauma Bay. Access to a large, shared pool on property. Access to the beach runs along the side of the property. Ocean is shallow in this area, ideal for children. Surfing is possible during the sum...Read more

Kent, WashingtonWe loved the location
Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We loved the location, the privacy, the pool, the hot tub, the giant tree which provided shade for the back yard, the BBQ was great to have. The place doesn't look like much on the exterior, but the interior is well appointed, with new appliances, new TVs, the internet works well, the aC works well but not really needed with all the shade from the big tree. Minor item that could get repaired was the screen door on the living room slider (broken, only 1/2 functional). The kitchen was well equipped, except for shortage of frying pans (there only was one tiny pan) and the good selection of knives could use sharpening. In general only minor negatives, we over-all enjoyed our stay.

MontrealAll the comforts of home (minus the snow!)
Left on 03/21/2012 for a stay in October 2011
Overall, we were very happy with our stay at the GC. We were with our 3 yr and 4 mth-old, so the convenience of a home was important. We liked: 2 bedrooms/baths, lots of towels; equipped kitchen/living room; flat-screen Tv's +DVD; internet; AC worked well; loved back patio with private jacuzzi and eating area; BBQ; laundry facilities. Loved private beach + beach toys. Pool was very nice, clean and quiet (but a bit cold!). Parking right outside front door. Hbh staff was generally responsive to our needs (there was only 1 coffee mug and wine glass when we arrived, and within a few hours they dropped off a 12-box set of each). The negatives: being falsely accused by HBH staff of throwing dirty diaper into neighbor's yard. Hbh did not verify with us before reprimanding us rather harshly. Bottom line, check your facts before you accuse your customers/clients of things that they simply could not have done (the diaper was several days old and we had just arrived). Watch for: roaches in the BBQ and under lounge mats; shake off before using! Very important: when jacuzzi's water level goes below the jets, it shuts down, so make sure the level is over the jets (use hose). Things we recommend to upgrade/replace: new coffee maker (one provided is functional but outdated), baking pans (no oven cooking because there were no pans!), and replacing the existing 'dining table' (which is a melamine counter-top) and bar-height chairs with a 'real' dining table with normal height chairs (hard for kids to get up on them!). The sink in master bath needs unblocking. Cottage is great for 1 or 2 couples or a couple with children. Beach is quiet and safe for small children, and beach toys are a plus. The pool was nice and we always had it to ourselves. Grocery store (3 min), Waikiki (20 min), Hanauma Bay-great snorkelling (10 min), Lanikai Beach -quiet and calm, great for small kids (20 min), and Sea Life Park-great for small kids (20 min). Wonderful family vacation!

Branchburg, New JerseyWonderful Home, Perfect Stay, Highly Recommended!
Left on 09/20/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Best features:
Private clean outdoor jacuzzi.
Semi private clean pool.
Great location.
Can be improved:
Internet connection speed.
washer and dryer takes too long.
Need to choose another "landmark" for the direction to the property, it was hidden.
We're family of 6, with 4 children ranges 8-13 years old. The house is large enough to fit all of us, and better yet, it is well maintained and clean. The host (Sara&Amy;) are very responsive to our needs.
I can still picture myself waking up in the morning with the tropical bird noise and sipping my coffee at the yard under this impressive banyan tree. It's just wonderful. Even though the house is located right next to major highway, we did not notice much noise, in fact it is convenient to the wonderful places that I will get to later.
In the evening, after long and hard day of beach vacationing, the clean jacuzzi is very inviting, and it is the highlight of our stay. Our kids are still talking about it 5 months after our vacation. I wonder if the CD player works...it would top the relaxing experience. The pool is also quite private, even tough it is shared with other cottage. So the pool and and the jacuzzi are the top attraction of the house in addition to the well maintained house condition overall.
Location: First of all, if you are a "let me plop in a resort and do the typical tourist attraction", then read no further. However, if you are more adventurous and wanting to explore Oahu, and get to the local flavor or experience, then renting this place is a start, and you must include rental car in your budget. So if you are a family of 5 or 6 like us, that's what you would do.
This house is located in a very strategic location where it is nearby South Shore plaza where lots of restaurant, grocery shop, and Seven Eleven who sells sushi and dim-sum (i thought I found heaven). This is also nearby to Hanauma Bay Beach, which is a wonderful, wonderful place to spend the whole day to snorkel. Across it is Koko head where you can experience the ultimate stair master (I did it, almost died, but I conquered it...kidding). If you continue on to the east, you will hit the eastern part of the coast, a wonderful scenery of the rabbit island, the Maakupu light house, and another 30 minutes drive will take you to the Lanikai beach. Now that is heaven.
In fact, after coming back from Oahu, Jersey shore is no longer exciting...so be ready for that effect.
So if you continue on that exploration route, you will hit the small Hawaiian villages with a majestic back drop of the jagged, yet lush mountain on your left. Keep your eyes on the road please. If you go further north, there is a shrimp shack on the street. Highly recommended. On the way back to the house (if you still have enough daytime), make sure you hit the Byodo temple. It is definitely a gem. It is so serene...
Forgive me for pointing the obvious, but there are many other attractions that the island has to offer. Having a strategic and cost effective location is definitely an important choice in planning your vacation, and I was lucky enough to find this house. If we are lucky enough, our family will definitely go back to this place, and perhaps stay longer to truly enjoy the island. By the way, we did stay about 7 nights...not enough... -

Aloha,
my family and friends have been with total 6 persons at Garden Cottage. It was very nice. The house is very good and I can recommend it! It was nice to be there. Our sons enjoyed the pool and the jacuzzi, when we arrived - we were delighted to the size and the equipment of the house.
In the morning and afternoon we could watch two Fairy Terns in the tree just before the house. I´m a Birdwatcher - so this was a great start to be there.

The home was not kept up to what we expected by the pictures. A/C in liv room did not work. Hot tub not working. No internet service. We felt very decieved for the amount we paid. It could of been better with TLC of the home. Not a bad location.
Response from Hawaii Beach Homes - 07/15/2010
Manager
We are sorry that these guests did not enjoy the house, and wish that they had called the office regarding the internet and hottub as we would have fixed both immediately. The home has a/c in the bedrooms as advertised, which does cool the entire home. Again, we are a phone call away and have staff located near all homes ready to help out in such situations, please don't hesitate to call us anytime!

This was our first visit to the Hawaiian islands. We had an absolutely wonderful trip and the accomodations were definitely a plus. We felt right at home in the Cottage and enjoyed the hot tub and Banyan tree in the back yard. The Cottage is fully furnished with everything needed to make one`s experience comfortable and restful. We would certainly come back and want to say " Mahalo " from all of us for helping to make our vacation one to remember! It was a nice and clean house with big three. But on 8th Aug, the last night the people who stayed in Cavana( next house) screamed and jumped in the pool till midnight(2am). We could not sleep well that night. There should be some penalty for them.

The shower curtain had mold on it. I called and let them know that the building was not quite up to par and they did send someone. I just feel it should be taken cared of better. -

Madison, WiThe Beach House
Left on 10/02/2008 for a stay in September 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Beach House. It was clean, had easy to use amenities, and was spacious. The only drawback is being on a very busy road where it was sometimes hard to get out of the driveway because of rush hour traffic. There was not a lot of highway noise at the house itself, though, which was fortunate.
We would definitely consider staying there again when we get back to Honolulu.
The cleaning lady who was there when we arrived was very nice and helpful, by the way. -

Amanda was very helpful. She left the directions for the new lock box code and we were able to reach her right away when we had trouble opening it. One suggestion, though, would be to install a motion sensor light in front of the cottages and the Banyan Tree house. We had some difficulty seeing at night. Otherwise, everything was just fine!

Left on 08/14/2008 for a stay in April 2008
We reserved another Rental Vacation near waikiki but we could not stay there because of the leaking roof.
Then we stayed here @ Garden Cottage and actually we were very satisfied and spent a wonderful time!
It was a little unconvenient 'cos it was a little far from Waikiki, though. You must have a car to go there.
Anyway GARDEN COTTAGE was a perfect one to spend a "LOCAL" quiet time!! -

We rented this cottage and loved it. The only short coming was that the beach was muddy, not sandy, but both the pool and hot tub were wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone.

This property was very nice and just a short drive form Waikiki. It was great to be far enough away to not battle the traffic and parking. Our backyard with the private jacuzzi was beautiful and had a very tropical feel. The pool on the property was clean and it seemed that we were the only ones using it, so it felt like our own private pool. We did see other guests using it, just not when we were. It was never crowded. The beach was a mere 20 second walk from our front door! The house was clean with modern amenities. The washer and dryer was used frequently by us. It was nice to wash our towels after the beach and our clothes too. The only thing I would suggest is a TV in all rooms. There was one in the master bedroom and one in the living room. The other guest room did not have one. I rated the cleanliness as a 4 but only becuase we kept tracking in sand onto the hard wood floors. I highly suggest throw rugs by the front door and the sliding back door to eliminate the problem of the sand sticking to your feet. I did try to use the vacuum but it did not work good. Otherwise the place was spotless. Especially the bathrooms. I recommend this property to anyone who wants a tropical hideaway outside of the rowdiness of downtown Waikiki yet close enough to go back and forth easily. You can go in to the beach or shopping, come home and shower, and go back to Waikiki for dinner. I miss my home away from home!
