      Good Location, Disappointing House

Left on 07/29/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Rented this property for over one week. Although situated on a beautiful beach, the neighbourhood was run down. The yard was very nice. The house was poorly maintained and very dirty. The windows were too dirty to enjoy the view. The floors were dirty as was the counter tops, fridge, tables, chairs. Bedding and towels were stained. Our first night there was spent chasing cochroaches and gechos in the house, and wiping down the furniture. We would not recommend this property to anyone.

Response from Hawaii Beach Homes - 10/11/2012

      Hawaii Beach Homes

      Manager

We urge all potential guests to read the other reviews for this home on Flipkey, Trip Advisor, and on our direct website. This house is one of our most beloved, and we have many families that return here year after year. In answer to the accusations made by this client:

      - The house is sprayed on a monthly basis. This is the tropics, and we share it with bugs, roaches and lizards. They like Paradise too! But by no means is this house infested or overrun with such things. Again, it is regularly sprayed and extremely well taken care of by a professional cleaning company.

      - If you check into one of our homes and find that the cleaning team did not do a proper job, simply call us. We will take care of any problems immediately. These clients did not contact us regarding a cleaning issue, and we suspect that what they are complaining about is not dirt, but in fact salty air: for instance, we clean windows between every visit, but within a short time span the salt does make them cloudy. We have a squeegee hanging downstairs, with a quick spray of the hose and a wipe of the squeegee they are crystal clear again. The salt air does affect surfaces in the house, a quick wipe down is all it takes to solve this.

      - The house is not "poorly maintained". It is cleaned thoroughly between each visit, and the home owner himself stays at least twice a year and performs small renovations and deep cleanings.

      - The house is not in a "run down neighborhood". At this point one gets the feeling that the guests whom left this complaint simply don't like Hawaii, as Waimanalo is a friendly and relaxed, classic Hawaiian neighborhood. Also, we aren't aware of too many "run down" neighborhoods that consist of multi million dollar, oceanfront homes!

      Complete Relaxation

Left on 03/08/2012 for a stay in February 2012

I spent 7 of 9 days on Oahu at this fantastic beach home on the Windward side of the island. It was about 25-30 minutes outside of Honolulu whether I drove across the middle of the island or around the southern tip of the island to get to there . It became a fast and easy drive as I traveled around the island seeing the various sights. Having spent 2 nights in Waikaki at a major hotel in the middle of all the "action", I found myself wanting to be back at this beach home. The house sits on the beach and we were put to sleep each night by the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the the beach just yards away. The house is extremely large and easily sleeps 10 people with no cramped quarters. Everything you could possibly need is at the house. As for the beach, in an entire week there were only a handful of people on this white sand beach and it was like having my own private beach. The somewhat rural setting was incredible but you are by no means in the middle of nowhere and everything you would want was close at hand. I will most certainly be staying at this home again. One of our best vacations ever! While eveything is not perfect like you would see in an upscale hotel, it is a very comfortable home on an incredible beach where you can truly put your feet up and relax.

Left on 08/08/2011 for a stay in July 2011

So after our long plane flight we were exhausted and ready to get to our house. The drive out there was very scenic. We pulled up to the house, and opened the gate. That's when my jaw hit the floor. We could see the emerald blue sea thru the windows in the house. We had the best time of our lives for the 8 days we spent here. You will never want to leave this place. If you visited Hawaii and stayed in Waikiki, I feel sorry for you. We went once and agreed we were not going back into town. This house offers a much more intimate experience in paradise, and a part of me will never leave. Simply awesome.

Beautiful Views, and House with Quirky Charm

Left on 07/31/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We stayed in this house with extended family, ranging from Seniors to young toddlers. It is a drive (but very scenic one) from Honolulu. The house has outstanding views of the beach, which was was extremely close and uncrowded. The house itself is decorated with a lot of quirky (original?) art as well We saw at least one casual wedding if not more each day! The beach was safe for our toddlers, though the water was a little active for them to swim in too far. The town did not have much in it, but it was a short drive to Kailua, and that had plenty of stores. We did get warnings to look out for Jellyfish, but we didn't see any. The house had lots of beach floats and boogie boards. Three of the bedrooms were bright, airy and had or shared a nicely renovated bathroom. We stayed in the fourth one, which was less nice, but was big and had air conditioning. The fourth bathroom's plumbing needs work. If you flushed the toilet, you would use up all the cold water, and for at least ten minutes the shower would be scalding hot. Even after that it produced only a small low power stream --I tried the renovated bathroom shower one day and it was night and day difference. So if you only need 3 rooms, then this place is great. We met two neighbors who also warned us (to the point where we were paranoid) about the possibility of break ins.

      Relaxing Getaway

Left on 07/15/2010 for a stay in June 2010

We stayed in the home 6/30-7-5/2010. We traveled with 7 adults and 1 toddler. Our family was first wowed by the location and the beauty of the surroundings. The pictures do not do this home justice. The house was way more beautiful than what the pictures show. The home was more than we expected. Lots of room to strech out in and decorated beautifully. The owners have impecable taste! We loved the large dinning room and front patio tables. We sat around most nights after dinner playing games or just chatting. If you're looking for a constant party atmosphere- this is not the place for you. The home is very serene and relaxing, as is the beach (not to mention the beach is literally right in your backyard). Make sure to stop by the shrimp truck and Sweet Home Waimanalo- Great local eateries. My only complaint is that the bed in the back room is very, very hard. Maybe a mattress pad is in order? Other than that, we'd stay here again in an instant.

      Fabulous

Left on 04/15/2010 for a stay in March 2010

This house is more beautiful than the pictures. The house has everything you might need for a wonderful beach stay on Oahu. The front yard is a secluded oasis with huge flowering trees, elephant ear plants as large as a toddler, a stream with tiny fish, and sunshine and breezes streaming into all the right places. The back yard is directly on a quiet and pristine lapping waves beach. The location is incredible with outstanding views in all directions. There are boogie boards, toys, and outdoor showers (which definitely help to keep the house clean), tons of towels, easily accessible laundry, and plenty of supplies. The rooms are well appointed and well separated. We loved this house and definitely hope to return.

Left on 03/03/2010 for a stay in February 2010

The house was breathtaking, larger than expected, showers were large and comfortable, even had outdoor showers for beach use. Mattresses were a bit hard, and we could have used at least one alarm clock, for airport departure. Kitchen is very big and user friendly. Found every needed utensil. As an RN I brought a first aid kit, they already had one. BBQ was great. Be careful leaving out food, ants can be around, but there is spray for use, and that took care of the problem. They do have an exterminator service, gardener, and spa service. Home was located in the center of the bay, wonderful for walking either direction, house within walking distance to a McDonalds, and grocery (but it closes early). Easy drive to another grocery, 7-11 and Macy's! Watch the speed limits!! and lock up cars and house, homeless are around, but did not interfere. Friendly neighbors, many churches in town, will most certainly return, and use the Hawaii Beach homes again.

Left on 09/15/2009 for a stay in August 2009

This property is in a dream location, it's large (easily sleeps 10 people), and the propety itself is beautiful but has not been given the love and attention it deserves. The property has beautiful artwork but is too cluttered for it to be appreciated. The propety needs a good deep cleaning and the cheap plastic tables in the living room have gotta go. The kitchen cabinets were disorganized and dirty. There was detergent but enough for just one or two loads, there was only one roll of paper towels, and there were no spices or herbs, etc. so one has to do a complete shopping trip. As a result, if you think you're going to save money by not eating out, think again. On the plus side, it's nice to have the conveniences of home, all the towels you need, and nothing beats the ability to wake up and look out the window at that view. I started having thougths of what I would do with the property if it were mine! This stretch of beach is definitely the most beautiful I've ever been on and we were right on it! Beware there are Portugese Man of Wars in the water here and their sting hurts (especially the young kids; according to locals the remedy is apparently cold water and vinegar). I would not hesitate to go here again, especially if I knew some attention had been given to the property.

Left on 09/02/2009 for a stay in August 2009

The property was beautiful and the management staff were helpful. All the wedding guests who stayed at the house had a wonderful time. I liked the low-key personal furnishings and character of the beach house. I liked the key box check-in; it made it easier for couples who were on different flights to check in. However, it would be good to notify guests that they will be ticketed if they park their car on the pavement. Vehicles are supposed to park on the grass on Laumilo St., which is pretty unusual. No one saw any signs, and 2 cars got $30 tickets. Not too aloha...
As a kama'aina (local resident) who has used Hawaii Beach Homes rentals 2 years ago and will probably arrange rentals for friends and family in the future, I do appreciate a kama'aina discount. However, I didn't really like paying $100 to book the house or $50 damanage insurance. I feel these fees were just added expenses added to the fairly high cleaning fee and the 12% tax. I think you should eliminate these extra charges if you want to stay compepitive with VRBO.

A reunion of family we had not seen laetely, We were able to enjoy one another so much! It was a safe, beautiful could have been cleaner!
We came to the house at the last minute and experienced a few days of heaven! Both Amanda and Emily were very helpful. Unfortunately the cleaning crew did not hold up to the perfection of the home. We still don't know all the details but the home was definitely not ready for a move-in even after a second person arrived and supposedly finished the job. All the mats were still to be washed and piled up at the washing machine. The floors in each of the lower level rooms had not been vacuumed. The glass table tops were very dirty. There was no paper toweling, very little toilet paper, no clean hand towels, no trash bags and the refrig had not been cleaned. After a 2nd person had gone to the house to clean and had left it like this, we just did it ourselves and got on with our visit. One other thing I'd like to mention is that the beds were extremely hard. It would make such a difference if you laid a memory foam on top of each mattress to make it a little more comfortable; especially the two master bedrooms with their own baths. We were very pleased at all the dishware and pots and pans. We cooked at home and barbequed and it was wonderful. Thanks for a great visit to a wonderful part of the island. We saw it all; high winds and surf, warm sun and rain!

Our stay in Waimanalo was a perfect prelude to our son's wedding--lush/immaculate yard, fabulous view, gorgeous house, excellent location, and wonderful service from the property manager. We had several questions that were dealt with quickly and efficiently, and couldn't have asked for a better response. We also arrived with a group varied in age (6-62), and all enjoyed the setting and home immensely. One particular plus was that our 6 yr. old grandson (along with the remainder of our group) truly enjoyed exploring the amazing and varied art collection. We would absolutely visit this home on a subsequent trip, should the opportunity present itself, and want to thank the owners for sharing such a treasure!

Rain, Rain, Rain, and nosey neighbors!

Left on 11/21/2008 for a stay in November 2008

This home is a nice place to stay as far as location goes. It is a good location to be for traveling all around the island. Easy access roads close by. Our main complaint would have to be the DAILY nosey neighbor who told us she was the "over see-er" of the property however we were never informed of this by the rental company. She would drop by DAILY unannounced, and was really a nuisance. She asked us to keep an eye on the water pond and pump to make sure it didn't overflow due to so much rainy weather we had. We did not feel that maintinence was our job to do. It rained every day there and we had to go to the other side of the island where the sun was. Only after we had been there a week did we find out that this area of the island is called "Gloomsville". This island home should be rented only to single couples who are very quiet people, or elderly people looking for a place that has an ocean view but doesn't care if they actually get to lie on the beach. The beach is beautifull but not for sunbathing due to daily rains and clouds that cannot pass over the mountains located directly behind the town. The home right next door has dogs that are out and barking every morning to wake you up. We found that annoying. This was a daily event. Overall we agreed the home is lovely however we would not stay there again. Price is right for the area due to weather and nosey neighbors. The ants were terrible and we even killed a scorpion walking across the living room floor. Be sure to shake your shoes out befor slipping them on. I know they (insects) are bad there in Hawaii but we didn't expect to see the scorpion! And yes, even in my mothers home in Florida I have seen scorpions so this didn't surprise me but it did shock the rest of our group. I can deal with the insects better than DAILY nosey neighbors anytime!

I booked a week's stay at this home completely over the web. I didn't talk to anyone and took it on faith that it would be as nice as the photos. my faith was not disappointed. The house is huge. It has a quality to it that is "lived in" enough for us to feel comfortable right away. The ocean is right out the back door with a white sand beach that goes on forever. We saw at least one wedding a day. The town of Waimanalo is quiet and it takes no time at all to get to Hanauma Bay for snorkeling. I highly recommend this home.

We expected it to be a "designer home w/air conditioning" as advertised. It's more of a beach house & only 2 bedrooms are air conditioned. We had a bug problem but maintenance came out right away. Once we were able to clean the house & settle in, we began to appreciate how spacious the house is. The beach is great! In the end, the good by far outweighed the bad, everyone was happy & would do it again.

We had several thousand dollars worth of items stolen while we (children included) slept.Luckily none of us were hurt. That said, the house was truly stunning and extremely well kept. The robbers weren't that smart considering the amount of real art on the walls and throughout the home. Only one sympathetic employee from the rental co. even cared, we never heard from managment.

Waimanalo, beautiful sight, fine breeze, sea sand, tropical flow

Left on 06/18/2008 for a stay in June 2008

We enjoyed very much the stay, the locations and most of the preparations, while for your information I would touch the following points which may be improved for the next guests.
      1. Equipments of the upstairs room. We have problems concerning windows which seemed difficult to close and open and screen-windows have not been fit. We couldn't stop small insects' invasion (for some days we have endured) and two of us being stayed in the room upstairs have finally moved to a Hotel in Honolulu only one night of 6/13 Friday. Next morning on 6/14 Saturday we consulted with Jody (because your staff may have been absent) and she closed the discrepancy of the windows with tape for emergent purposes, which may improve the invasion of the insects but we were still unable to open and close glass-windows.
      2. On 6/14 Saturday morning around 8:00, we found that a stranger was in the yard. Our bed room was not well screened with curtains and we were astonished to have seen such a stranger just outside bed room in the yard, whom we finally clarified to be a gardener/cleaner. These incidents were not comfortable for us and ask you if we have already had any prior written notice to us for such gardener?
      3. The clothes covering the sofas in the Living Room may have not been very clean containing, hairs, sand and spots, which make us reluctant to use sofas during our stay. The beach-side bed room (base stairs) bed clothes already contained a little sand inside when we arrived, by which we were suspicious about cleaning of the bed cover prior to the rental.
Nevertheless, we thank you once again for your services and look forward to staying your properties in the near future.

Our party of 6 adults found the house and location great. The rental procedures were simple and clear. It was easy to drive around - be it the beaches, Honolulu, the North Shore, or the Leeward coast - although W. beach itself is great and not as crowded as Kailua or Lanikai; a good place for walks while watching the sun rise. The house is spacious and has all the amenities one would expect. However, the building is in need of some update (windows, bathrooms, etc.) but nothing to hinder your stay. The general feeling of the house is reminiscent of the artful 60's; like going to an aunt's summer house...

      Beautiful View

View was fantastic! Had plenty of room for a wedding and reception. Some locals were great, others threatened to kill us if we didn't leave the beach. We've had other family members stay at this home and didn't have any problems.

The house is large and there are some areas difficult to clean. There is some maintenance that is a must do: the upper floor bathroom window falls out when you try to open or close it. It is good to remember that it is a BEACH house, not like your real house back home.

Loved all the art work at this property, and the fish pond. There were a few light bulbs burned out--manager should replace these. The window next to the master bed would not close. The beach was very windy most of the time. Thanks for the internet connection.

      Not a return visiter

Left on 03/31/2008 for a stay in November 2007

I go to Hawaii every year; I would not rent this property again. The living room furniture was very dirty; being white it shows everything. I thought there was a lot of clutter (the baskets and bells in kitchen) that were just collecting dust. Not all of the TV's worked... If they do not work, they should not be in the rooms. We were warned about theft in the area by the locals and sure enough, our car was broken into (in the middle of the day). I do not feel it was worth the higher end price.

A true Hawaiian experience in this fabulous home!

Left on 03/28/2008 for a stay in March 2007

I cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful beachfront home! You will be surrounded by a true, rustic Hawaiian experience when staying here! The white sand beach and turquoise ocean are literally steps out your back door. We had Waimanalo beach and its spectacular beach practically to ourselves. The home was very clean, convenient, and had spectacular views. Portions of the home were somewhat "rustic", but it only added to the feeling of "old Hawaii". We stayed in three different homes while on our vacation, and this home was, by far, our favorite. It was stocked with everything you could need...high quality bed linens, fluffy bath and beach towels, more kitchenware than you could ever possibly need. If you are looking for beautiful views, an almost-private beach, and to be surrounded by rustic Hawaiiana, I HIGHLY recommend this home. You will not be disappointed! My husband and I stayed her with my mother and our three children, ages 7, 12, and 13, and we all fell in love with this home. Pictures do not do it justice!
