      Filthy

Left on 01/09/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We were very disappointed in this home. Let me just touch the surface: It’s F I L T H Y. The furniture is old and of garbage-picked quality. The kitchen has an overwhelming smell of grocery-store bug spray, but the ants and roaches are still active – even if you keep all of your dishes clean, and there is no dishwasher. Ceiling fans are covered in a thick layer of grime. Old, tattered curtains hung on windows and closets throughout this home are covered in dust, grime and mold. The shower curtain liner is revolting. Can’t even begin to describe the carpet. Dust covered clutter and junk, hordes of free tourist magazines, plastic toys, old blankets, ugly throw rugs, everything mismatched with zero style or grace – these things make for a constant visual assault.

I spent hours cleaning on the first day of our vacation, bought a new shower liner and re-washed sticky dishes. Did what we could – and the place was better for it. We tried to spend little to no time here but that’s not why we signed on in the first place.

The management company will respond to this review by saying that we should have called them to address these issues. Don’t be fooled. There are endemic problems here. Can’t decide what would be worse – whether they are or are not aware. In any case it’s not for us to take on – and certainly not during our trip.

Someone is profiting nicely by charging market value for this appalling home, while maintaining it to the lowest possible standard. The spectacular beach doesn’t provide an excuse. Heed the bad reviews and find another place to stay!

Response from Hawaii Beach Homes - 01/14/2013

      Hawaii Beach Homes

      Manager

This review is full of false statements, except for one point -- the client is correct, she should have called us with any complaints, and we would have addressed them immediately! The house is cleaned regularly by a professional company, everything from beds to carpeting is brand new, and if the client believes the decor has "zero style and grace" we wonder why she chose to rent this home after viewing the photos online.

What is not mentioned by this reviewer is that she was under a tremendous amount of stress due to a family emergency occuring at the time of her stay, and that she was almost forced to cancel. We worked closely with this client and offered assistance in any way possible. Despite corresponding with us regularly about the emergency situation, the client never mentioned her unhappiness with the house. We suggest you heed the more levelheaded reviews, and consider North Shore 33 if you are looking for a simple, clean and affordable home on a spectacular beach.

Left on 05/31/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We stayed here because our first choice location wasn't available for the entire duration of our stay on O'ahu. Although we would have preferred to stay at the first location, we really enjoyed our stay at this place. Situated behind the main house on off the street. The living-dining areas offered great views of the beach and ocean, with a patio and BBQ just outside. Our friends used the second bedroom -- it would be nice to have regular bed(s) there.

Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in October 2011

I took my family to this house in October. Basic but clean accommodations. Had no complaints. The beach there is beautiful. My last night I hung out with a Turtle in the sand for a couple of hours. A really magical place. Oh yeah, there is a fun little left right out front (short paddle across the reef). I will definitely return to this home.

      Quiet location on great beach!

Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We rented on the North Shore once before from Hawaii Beach Homes and both times felt good about the process to find and rent the homes. Their correspondence with us was prompt and clear, made it easy plan our vacation.
The home was, as shown in photos and written description, what we expected. The location was great, with some multi million dollar homes on the same beach. The views from the living room are amazing. Master bedroom has a good queen size bed which we enjoyed. The second bedroom has two beds which may be suitable for children, since they can sleep just about anywhere, but not for adults, due to poor mattresses and bed frames. Our adult daughter slept on the futon in the living room. This was a little inconvenient since she likes to sleep in latter then us. A couple minor things; only three spoons, all of different sizes in the silverware drawer, and no tea kettle. We enjoyed the island style decore in the home and the light airy colored walls. As building contractor I was very impressed with the high quality painting that someone did through out the home, I wish I could get a painter that good for my projects! The only other negatives are the exterior access toilet room is in pretty rough shape, nothing the women want to use, and the pipes under the kitchen sink seemed to have leaked some creating a bit of an oder. All in all the positives of this property greatly out weigh the negatives and we would stay there again.

exterior from the road side. Reminds me of the cottages I stayed in as a kid in Minnesota

Second time using FlipKey and again not dissapointed. The house was gorgeous and roomy with a price per day that rivaled the larger resorts with smaller crowded areas.

      Excellent location for snorkeling

Left on 03/21/2012 for a stay in August 2011

This is a beachfront property. It's mostly private, hardly anyone sharing the beach with you most of the time. House is a little old, and the bathtub needs to be remodeled, but location wise, it's great for snorkeling. There are a few turtles that have their homes right underneath those rocks in front of the beach. Both daytime and nighttime snorkeling is amazing. You can see so many different types of fish, shrimp, and even octopus if you're lucky. The only thing I wish the house would supply would be split air conditioning in both bedrooms and living room, because it still gets quite humid during the Summer months even with the trade winds.

Left on 03/21/2012 for a stay in January 2012

The customer service was outstanding, I was treated like a valued customer/friend from the first interaction. That was so important as this was our first time staying with Hawaii Beach Homes.
The house was even better than the pictures and those were very good & accurate. Within a day or so my toddler was calling it our Hawaii house.
We felt at home, at ease and taken care of from the first day. It was so relaxing to hear the waves everyday.
The location was very quiet which was great. The house had all the things we needed to cook & clean.
Seeing turtles everyday and snorkeling right outside the house were amazing.

      Nice house with some cons

Left on 10/30/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed for two weeks in august. The house was clean and the living room comfortable and spacious. However, the mattresses of the second bedroom need a replacement, already as teenager you feel the frame under it. The bathroom shows also not only minor signs of wear and tear, and the second bathroom is simply a toilet at the outside of the house. Temperatures inside and outside of the house are the same, there is no air condition in the house, but an effective natural ventilation. The patio and garden are great with beautiful view to the ocean and with direct beach access. If you want to go swimming you have either to walk for fifteen minutes or go by car to a beach where the corals are deeper in the sea.

I grew up on O'ahu for 18 years, and this was a different and great experience of enjoying the island life. Lucky we live Hawaii!!! Always my home.

The house is in a great location! The beach is just a few steps away. It was such a relaxing experience! We even got to see honus (Hawaiian sea turtle) everyday and night we were there. I would definitely consider renting this house again, and I will definitely be recommending it to family and friends!

What a wonderful place to relax and unwind with the sound of the ocean, the quiet street, the comfortable furnishings...we hardly felt like going anywhere else. We enjoyed morning walks on the beach and buidling sandcastles with the sea turtles looking on. Close enough to town to make shopping easy. A dishwasher would have been nice but not a real issue for us. The beach next to property isn't a swimming beach but is great for snorklling and it's not far to drive to other swim beaches. A cozy beach hideaway! We would recommend it to others who wish to be on the quiet side of the island.

I stayed at north shore 33 with my husband and my parents from korea. for me and my parents, it was the first trip to Hawaii.
when we opened a back door to the house on the first day, it was such a big surprise, because it was much nicer than we expected.
the house is very well maintained. everything was ready.
especially, we loved the private back yard and beach just few steps away. we met a giant sea turtle in the beach!!
also another great part was the house is in the very quiet area. so we can relieve ourselves and fully enjoyed vacation just for us.
the six days at north shore was too short in the end.
my family will definitely come back to north shore next time.
now when I see that photo of the house, I feel it is my old home. it was the perfect little paradise.

We would definitely stay here again.

LB North Shore in Haleiwa was absolutely perfect! The property was very clean, entry and exit were easy, neighbors were close but very considerate and quiet. Waking up to the beach view was spectacular. We saw the big waves come in on October 29, 2009 and change the character of the beach. What a thrill! On aour last night, we walked on the beach in the moonlight and saw ten large sea turtles resting on the beach. One climbed out of the water right in front of us. Our stay was magical.

Turtles, turtles, a seal and more turtles...all in the steps of our backyard! How fun is this home..did not want to leave! Got to sun tan in the private backyard - bareback style to eliminate tan lines - can't do that on a public beach or hotel! Ha!

We love this house and the island charm that this house had to offer. We were not disturbed at all by the property manager during the stay (even though we had questions about visitors - no one responded, so our visitors came by and hung out at the house).

Love Hale'iwa town. Must go back for Walaiwa's fresh sandwiches and did I mention, best smoothies EVER - jamba juice will never be the same. Then the shrimp trucks...Fumi's off Kamuka (spelling). We absolutely loved our adventure and dream of the next time going back.

Some many little space. All in all - we throughly enjoyed our stay here and dream of the time we return!

.Relaxing Vacation at North Shore 33

Left on 03/01/2009 for a stay in February 2009

My stay at this home was enjoyable and relaxing, the interior of house and the back yard are very nice. I only gave 4 stars for property condition due to carport which was cluttered with old furniture and refrigerator, but was no big deal because you only see it when arriving or departing, which I rarly did because this home is hard to leave. The kitchen has everthing you need to prepare a full meal and there are some nice resturants 10 minutes away in Heleiwa. Neigborhood is very quiet and the great beach outside the backdoor is almost deserted, many times there were more sea turtles on the beach than people. For the adventurous type like me, there is skydiving and glider rides at Dillingham Airfield less than 5 minutes away, I did both. I liked the self check in and out, don't have to bother anyone. I would stay at this home again if I travel to Oahu

Left on 11/07/2008 for a stay in November 2008

We have never had such a relaxing vacation.
To wake up everyday and walk a few steps from your backyard to your own slice of heaven was a dream come true. The snorkeling was fantastic. The half bath is located outside and is just a rudimentary Pole with a shower head on it.(not really a half bath) The beach has the softest sand and the bluest water. The turtles were swimming with us everyday. In the early morning (sunrise) there were at least two or three large turtles still on the beach. I sat next to two very large turtles the first morning we were there for about 20 minutes before they calmly and slowly made their way back into the ocean. I will remember it always. The house was small but very comfortable. It was very warm in the evenings. The only thing that could have improved on this stay would have been air conditioning, but hey nothing is perfect, but this house came close.

We loved our stay at this property on the North Shore of Oahu. The house is right on the beach and a short drive to Haleiwa for restaurants, shops, and shave ice!
We found the house to be better than we expected from the pictures on the web site. I find it difficult to rely on pictures and descriptions on the web, but this property was clean, well-maintained, nicely furnished, and comfortable.
I should include a couple of warnings. The one bathroom might be a problem for a larger party (we are just a couple), though there is the outside toilet we never used. And I would have preferred a dishwasher but that wasn't really a problem.
We would certainly recommend this property and am trying to figure out how to return soon.

I found turtles on the beach EVERY MORNING!!! Of course, I was up at the crack of dawn....Perhaps there could be some easier way to wash off after the beach. I could not find the "outside shower" I was looking for.

      amazing location- OK house

Left on 03/31/2008 for a stay in November 2007

the location was amazing, perfect for us and our toddler. the enclosed grassy back yard was great and the beautiful beach literally 3 steps from the yard. The beach itself was nice because you could snorkel and kayak right in front in a semi-protected reef area. (a kayak was provided by the house when we were there- thank you- we really enjoyed it) Sea turtles were everywhere and amazing to be able to snorkel with them. You can also surf right out front if you paddle out past the mellow reef area. The reef where the waves break is pretty shallow though. the back of the house is nice with the porch and yard and living room. the entrance to the house, basically a converted carport, however, was sort of trashy with a bunch of junk stored everywhere- gives a very bad impression every time you arrive at the home. Kitchen felt sort of dirty even though it was cleaned- the place is just well-used. Sort of felt like a house where college kids would hang out. There is a beautiful house next door that is much nicer though probably much more expensive but seemed like a better fit for a family or a couple of families. I probably wouldn't stay at this house again but would definitely recommend a nicer house at this particular beach. One thing to note is that this house is in a quiet residential neighborhood- not much around that you can walk to but lots of other houses all around.

      Loved this Beach Bungalow!!

Left on 03/28/2008 for a stay in March 2008

I will never stay anywhere in Hawaii but the North Shore!! AND this property is perfect for a family vacation. The Beach was beautiful white sand and right off our back door. We enjoyed watching the turtles in the morning and at night. Not only was the beach beautiful but private with only a few other visitors. We are in the process of planning a return family vacation next year with our grandkids. Great location for all ages.

The home was very clean, decorated beautifully, and was well appointed. Excellent on the beach location for mornings or sunsets. We would definitely stay there again.

      33 North Shore Surf Vacation

Left on 03/28/2008 for a stay in February 2008

This is the way to go on North Shore. No more hotels-please! These little old places are great. Right on the beach, a gas grill outside, waves from beginner to advanced, decent snorkeling, good swimming, wales every day. Just a few fixes needed (clean the sinkerator, repair outside fridge and maybe AC?) and place would be HEAVEN. Will be back again and again. Aloha and Mahalo, Eric.

Is it a wonderful second house?

Left on 03/27/2008 for a stay in February 2008

The stay of the north was the second, but I was very beautiful last time, and it was a good place. But this house is splendor as I exceed it. The location is the best, too! It is almost Haleiwa, too and can take my course in living. In addition, it is the house where it wants to stay at.

      A Little Piece of Heaven

Left on 03/27/2008 for a stay in June 2007

What could be better then sitting on the beach watching the sun set in the horizon and the sea turtles resting in the ocean not 5 feet from the beach? We can't wait to return to this heavenly location.
