San Francisco, CAGreat experience for our group of families (with young kids)!!!
Left on 06/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We had a fantastic experience staying at this house. We cooked dinner for multiple families (with kids ranging from 2 years old to 5 years old)...and had a great time in the swimming pool nearly every evening. Melanie, the owner, is so easy to work with...she did everything possible to ensure our stay was the best ever. We highly recommend this house to anyone, especially those with kids/families.

Pearl City, HawaiiEnjoyable family "staycation"!
Left on 09/08/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Melanie was very nice and answered all my questions about this rental when I first inquired and during our stay, when I had a small problem with one of the bathrooms, she took care of it right away.
(The house was still being cleaned when we arrived...Apparently, the previous tenants had overstayed their visit.)
Melanie's house was conveniently located to marketing, shopping, eateries, and to all the activities we had planned: surfing, stand up paddling, outrigger canoe paddling, hiking up Diamond Head, swimming at Hanauma Bay, and a dinner in Waikiki, at the Oceanarium Restaurant.
Our family of 12, ages 2 1/2 yrs.- 75 yrs. enjoyed being together for a whole week, and didn't feel cramped, but relaxed and comfortable, here.
Many delightful memories were created in the warmth of this home. Everyone had fun in the pool. "Happy hour" and several meals, were enjoyed on the lanai, and "ono kind grinds" was cooked on the bar-b-que grill...mmm!!!
The house was well equipped/stocked, and we made good use of the washer, dryer, kitchen appliances, coolers and beach towels. We were even able to print up an airlines' preboarding pass on the computer/printer.
By unanimous decision, this "staycation" was one of the best vacations we've had as a family.

This is a fantastic rental for a large family get together on a budget. We had 7 adults, 2 kids under 8 and one baby. There was plenty of room so no one felt uncomfortable. The house is well stocked with everything you could need while on vacation. We appreciated the crib and high chair too. The kids loved being able to go swimming whenever they wanted. Melanie is the perfect host and even went out of her way to mail back my cell phone when I discovered I left it there on accident. Costco and Safeway are conveniently located. You are expected to treat this like your own house as you are responsible for taking out your trash / recycling and stripping the beds before you leave.

Sacramento, CaliforniaA great vacation at a great rental house!!
Left on 10/06/2011 for a stay in August 2011
My extended family (kids & baby inculded) stayed at Melanie's great rental house for our Hawaii vacation/sister's wedding and we were not dissapointed! The rental home is in a great location and the price was right!! Melanie was a great when we needed her and other then that we didn't even see her. They live behind the rental house. This house was big enough for the extended family and we were all comfortable and could be together and have privacy at the same time with all the bed rooms! We also loved the swimming pool and that it was shallow for the kids! Melanie also left suggestions and places to go to while out and about. There is also a Costco and grocery stores close by not to mention Zippy's and Bubbie's ice cream!! The house is in the middle of everywhere and that made it easy for us to vist the whole island. We had such a great time and will surley be back again and will highly recommend this beautiful rental house.

Nashville, TNPerfect House for a Family or Group
Left on 07/30/2011 for a stay in March 2011
I spent nine days in this house with eight friends, and it was absolutely perfect for our needs. The house itself is beautiful, spacious, and clean, not to mention fully stocked with enough towels, dishes, and linens for a large group. The pool is located directly on the side of the house and is easily accessible through the living room. The outdoor patio next to the pool has a large table and a grill, which offered a perfect location for relaxing over drinks or dinner. The house is on a quaint, dead-end side street that doesn't get a lot of traffic, but is still only a short drive to supermarkets, gas stations, and a number of scenic views.
The owner of the house lives in a separate home behind the rental house and was a huge help with navigating the area and finding things to do. She has been in Hawaii for over a decade and is familiar with all the local hikes, beaches, and dining spots. During our stay, the earthquake in Japan triggered a tsunami warning for Hawaii, and the owner of the rental home was extraordinarily helpful with getting us evacuated and finding a safe place for us to go for the night. I would highly recommend this house for a single family or even multiple families looking for a relaxing and fun vacation. -

Torrance, CaliforniaFantastic Family Vacation House!
Left on 07/11/2011 for a stay in February 2011
What a wonderful way to "do" Hawaii! We had three generations in a house large enough to accommodate multiple families with a beautiful pool for all day entertainment! Melanie has thought of every possible need to ensure a stress-free vacation, from cribs and children's toys and books, to beach towels, boogie boards and coolers! And a washer and dryer to keep it all recycling! The large kitchen is awesome for easy food preparation: breakfasts of fresh papaya and Porteguese sausage 'n eggs, assembly-line sandwiches to take to the beach and nightly Bbq's of steaks, burgers and seared ahi to die for! The Portlock location is perfect: across the street from the ocean where we watched nightly sunsets with cocktails, 2 minute drive to Starbucks and Costco, just the other side of the most beautiful snorkeling in all of Hawaii at Haunama Bay and just minutes from the best white sand beaches on Oahu. We will never stay in Waikiki again fighting the traffic and tourists! One of my favorite moments was watching the sunrise over Lanai (?) from a hilltop off a great hiking trail nearby. We cannot wait to go back!

We had a fabulous time at the house on Portlock Road.
We had a total of 10 people in our group...my husband and I, our son (28) his friend, our daughter (31), her husband and their two kids ( 7 & 9), and 2 friends of the family. The accommodations were perfect for our configuration. The weather was exceptional for the week we were there. The week before there were thunderstorms and the week after there was alot of flooding on the island. Having a pool for our family was fantastic. The location was close to shopping (grocery) and a short walk to the beach for an amazing sunset photo op. I also recommend the short walk to China Wall.
We did find out that it is quite a drive to Waikiki Beach. We went there once to rent mopeds! Awesome! And we drove up the coast to Kailua Beach. Hanauma Bay is really close (actually a nice run in the morning). good idea to get there early because it fills up. We took a day and went to Pearl Harbor, a must, and then the Swap Meet (across the street actually). we also went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday. the pineapples were the best I've ever had! Melanie was absolutely wonderful. I was a bit concerned that her apt was right behind us, but it was no problem and she is so helpful with directions. When she says you don't need to bring anything but a toothbrush she is not kidding. There is absolutely everything you could ever need at the house.
Another thing we did was hike to the Maunawilli Falls. Even the grandkids liked it. So much to do and not enough time to do it.

West Des Moines, IAeverything was fantastic!!
Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in November 2010
From the second I landed in Hawaii, everything was what I expected and more. The house was beautiful, the yard was spectacular, and the views were amazing! When we arrived at the home it was spotless and the pool was ready to be used. I quickly chose one of the many beds in the home to be mine for the week and then did some site seeing in the yard ( which includes a mango tree) and the neighborhood. The ocean is just across the street and down a path ( I took many pictures of the ocean here) and the homes in the area nothing short of spectacular. Everything on the island from the Bays (Hanauma Bay), to the beaches (Waikiki Beach), to restaurants, to golf courses are within a few minute drive of the home. The kitchen was also very well stocked with anything that you need to cook with from pots and pans, to knives, to dishes, and a washer and dryer at your disposal. The pool is perfect for lounging around before hitting the ocean and has as shallow end for children to swim around in and a deep end for the adults to float on rafts. Or, you can lay in one of the many lounge chairs that are provided around the pool.
If you cannot tell, I had an absolutely fantastic time in Hawaii and plan on going back in the near future. Of course, I am going to book the same house when I return due to the spectacular hospitality and knowing that every thing we want or need is there. I highly recommend you book this home!! -

Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Melanie, our host, was fabulous! She made the whole process easy and helped out with any issues or questions right away. She even shared some freshly ripened mangos from her wonderful back yard tree. The house is simple from the outside, but with lots of beds and space for everyone to gather or escape. Very clean, up to date, but not overly fancy, which made it more comfortable to our family. The backyard and pool is small, but nice to sit at for a family dinner. Melanie has plenty of extra equipment available so you don't have to buy or bring chairs, boogie boards, coolers, etc. The house is away from Honolulu?Waikiki but not too far, so a good jumping off point for trips around the island. Nearby shopping corner has supermarket, Costco, theatres, ice cream shop, restaurants right on the water, so an easy trip out.

We had a fabulous time. My husband's family lived in Hawaii for a time and staying at this house made us feel less like tourists and more like part of the community. It helped that we knew our way around the island. The house was near the grocery, beach and snorkeling. There was plenty of space for all 8 of us to feel comfortable and the Fox's were available for anything we needed.
We wish we could come back every year and stay here! Aloha!
