Entendez le son du fleuve: Hear the sound of the river. You'll feel to the manor born when you stay at this spacious estate that combines the atmosphere of a chateau in Provence with the stunning beauty and vibrance of Oregon's Hood River Valley. Nestled in rolling hills dotted like a Seurat painting with myriad pear trees, you'll not only be in a spot renowned for its luscious Anjou pears, you'll also be close to the magnificent Hood River with its world-class windsurfing, abundant wineries, and orchards bursting with plump fruit!
From the moment you enter the huge open living area with its high ceilings, panoramic views, and grand spi...ral staircase you realize this is an enormous space (about 5800 sq.ft.) perfect for festivities, yet warm and comfortable - and you would be right. The home is the newly built favorite getaway of the Webster family and their eight children, and was designed to entertain large parties. You and 19 other people can make this your home away from home and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding orchards, fir trees, and Mounts Hood and Adams in the distance.
Whether you're passing the hors d'oeuvres at a party, or a bowl of popcorn while you and the family watch a movie, this home offers a seamless space for interacting no matter what the occasion. And when the others have gone to bed, enjoy a solitary moment. Stay up by the fire and work on the laptop with the free WiFi, read a book, or watch a late movie on the cable TV.
This chateau's large and well-equipped kitchen will be up to any culinary challenge, from a glitzy feast to eggs and toast in the morning. With tons of cabinets and counter space, preparing those meals will be a breeze without bumping into each other. Straw bosses can supervise and chat as they sip a drink at the island right in the kitchen. When the meal's done, gather 'round the dining table with room for Eight (plus seven more at the island) and feast not only on the meal, but a wonderful view of the countryside as well.
A big place needs a plan, and this one has it: all the bedrooms are color-coded so everyone knows where they belong at bedtime. The master bedroom is on the main floor, and the small room left of the foyer is set up as an office. And here's your color-coded room assignments: the green and blue room has two twin beds, the red and blue a queen, the purple room has a queen bed and 2 cribs, and the pink room a queen as well. In the basement, the yellow room has two twin beds, and finally, there's a queen bed and futon in the main space. Lots of places for tired vacationers!
River Song is just 10 minutes from downtown Hood River and all the great places to eat and shop there. Right on the Columbia River, Hood River is a mecca for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the stunning beauty and wealth of activities in and around the Columbia River Gorge. Along with the three-dozen wineries in the area, there are many orchards where you can pick your own fruit! Come in April to the Hood River Blossom Festival and take the railroad tour of the orchards called "The Fruit Loop." And of course there are plenty of places to golf, and fish and raft and...you get the picture! Winter is great in Hood River too. Just head south for 30 minutes and you're at Mount Hood Meadows. Keep going, and there are more places to ski down the road.

What a get away. This home is close to all the fun of Hood River, but it's tucked up in the orchards, away from it all. I couldn't get over how quiet, serene, and totally calming my stay was. The home could sleep 20 on beds, and there was plenty of extra floor space for kiddos. Even with a full house, I never felt crowded out. This place is huge, but somehow cozy too. Very tastefully decorated and clean. We spent a lot of time out on the deck, and in the hot tub. I just loved my time there. Hood river is a hidden gem, and this is my new favorite place to stay. Would highly recommend.

This was our second time here - a 5 day stay including Labor Day weekend - The Swim of which we were participants. We had gathered with family and friends. The spacious kitchen with two sinks and two dishwashers has plenty of room to prepare meals and either sit or move around. Our daughter and son-in-law, with two young children, loved having their own spacious bedroom with crib for their baby and a little hide-out where their toddler could privately sleep in his pack-n-play. The surroundings are magnificent and one feels removed from all the hustle and bustle - truly a vacation. There's something for all ages, from hiking, taking a jog down country roads, perusing through all the quaint shops in downtown Hood River and ending up at Mike's Ice Cream Shop, dining out at a variety of restaurants (our personal favorite - Nora's Fish House), hiking in the Gorge - Multnomah Falls and Beacon Rock as well as numerous waterfall hikes, sturgeon sightings at Bonneville Dam, bike riding on the Mark Hatfield trail, rafting down the Deschutes just an hour away, etc., etc. Or just stay and enjoy the amenities in the home - Ping Pong, jacuzzi, sitting on the deck taking in all the awesome and relaxing scenery, smells and sounds, curling up by the fire, reading a book, playing games or just visiting in either the huge family room just off the kitchen or the beautifully furnished living room away from everything, or downstairs in another family room just off of the game room. We did it all! This place is so comfortable and appealing - there's a place for everyone and something for everyone to do. And having 5 very nice bathrooms is absolutely awesome! We already have another trip planned for this summer.
