Additional Location Information
Alaskan Byways B & B is located within easy walking distance of downtown Hope. In and around Hope your opportunities are endless: You can go hiking, backpacking, biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, or enjoy world class guided drift boat and hike-in fishing trips, Alaska's best whitewater rafting, gold panning, or freshwater fishing for salmon and trout. You can stroll around Hope’s historical city center. Your steps will lead you to, among other things, a hundred year old pub (still open) on the shores of Turnagain Arm, a top-notch museum chronicling the life of early Hope/Sunrise settlers, an art gallery, and savory restaurants.
If you are anxious to venture further, you can drive an easy 45 minutes and spend the day in Seward; book a Kenai fjords tour in the morning and visit the Sea Life Center in the afternoon. Just outside of Seward, you can hike right up to Exit Glacier and feel the dense blue ice while listening to it crackle. Or, you can visit the towns on the Kenai Peninsula. Returning to Hope, throw your clothes in the laundry, shower, and relax in this special vacation home or walk downtown and treat yourself to dinner at one of three very good cafes. After dinner, sit around the fire pit and enjoy the long days of Alaska’s summer.

I found Skip & Lisa in 2008 and have stayed with them every summer since. I love the house and the setting, everything is spotless. The comunity of Hope is really interesting and relaxing. The views of Turnagain arm change with every turn of the highway as well as with the weather, the tides and the time of day. The back roads and trails into the old minning country are breathtaking and one can loose himself to a time long ago. Its one of my favorite places!

You get the entire house to yourself Lisa and Skip live next door. The home is beautiful! The furnishings are very comfortable and clean. The kitchen has all of the modern appliances you need. They really spared no exspense! There is a washer and dryer full bathroom with a great shower! They provide breakfast, pancakes, oatmeal, bagels and cream cheese, granola bars, pecans, cranberries, orange juice, v8, coffee, teas. We could not believe everything they had set up. They had fishing poles, games,BBQ and picnic table. Overall you get the best bang for your buck!

Lisa and Skip were so helpful and friendly making us feel right at home. The historic home was very comfortable, a great place for us to stay while we explored Hope. We took day trips to the other communities... Seward, Cooper Landing, Whittier, Girdwood and even anchorage... most were within 45 minutes to 1.5 hours driving time. Coming back to Hope to the serenity, peace and quiet added so much to our visit.
We enjoyed the good food at the cafes, the Hope Musuem, the Sherritt Fine art Gallery and the gift shops where we found locally made items and gifts to tuck into our suitcase.
We loved our stay and it is our hope to return again. Thanks for all you did for us while we were your guests! -

Eagle River AlaskaExperience alaska as it used to be and as it is nowhere else.
Left on 03/25/2012 for a stay in January 2009
Skip and Lisa took care of us personally and lovingly. They put the same love and care into the remodeling of the old house. It is charming from the bird feeders hanging before the windows of the breakfast nook in the fully equipped kitchen, to the Living area with TV, books, and music to the romantic bedrooms. The house is easily accessible from the main road leading into Hope and still enough removed to provide peace and quiet. It is hard to say what I liked best, probably the conversations with the hosts, Skip and Lisa. Also that we had the house to ourselves and all the peace and privacy within its walls. What I liked least? I honestly can't think of anything.

Anchorage, AKFamily retreat in quaint town of Hope
Left on 03/25/2012 for a stay in March 2010
I rented this adorable cabin with 4 of my kids while my hubby was out of town. I was so pleased to discover several warm, cozy and very clean rooms; a well stocked kitchen full of yummy teas, cocoas and breakfast foods; movies and games for everyone; and hosts who were helpful, welcoming and gracious. I have looked at and/or stayed at almost every other cabin and B&B; in Hope, and this stay far exceeded them all.
