Great cottage in a peaceful area

Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in February 2012

I stayed here in Feb with my husband and two friends. The cottage is clean and spacious. I think it is good value for money and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for value for money and a lovely property!

      Convenient and comfortable

Left on 03/06/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Service- adequate but not very friendly
The home was conveniently located to all amenities
Good Location, however the promised view was obscured
One more toilet/ bathroom would make things a lot easier (especially with two kids)
The bathroom needs to be cleaned properly - no bathrings please!
The pool would have been fantastic if it was better cared for!

Sorry to hear that all was not well
Am shocked that your service was unfriendly as I have never received negative feedback about my staff ( please see other reviews)
I will certainly speak to my staff about this as it is very important to us to provide good service.
Will also find out what happened with the bath ring as this is also very unusual and certainly not acceptable.
Unfortunately we are unable to add another toilet or bathroom - the cottage is very competitively priced as a 3 star self catering home and this would put it out of reach for current clientele.
Could you elaborate on the pool as I would also like to find out more detail here. We have just recently renovated the pool paving so I am not sure if this is what is referred to

Beautiful accomodation, larger than look on photos

Left on 03/04/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We stayed for 9 days here in February, from the start it couldn't have been better. The cottage is very large and airy, decorated in whites and pale colours and gives more of an impression of a beach house. The rooms are bigger than they look on the photos here and there is plenty of wardrobe space in both rooms.
The kitchen is well equipped and the welcome pack was a lovely touch.
Jessie, was a lovely lady, but very discrete, we hardly saw anything of her. The private dipping pool area was lovely and very clean.
I really can't praise this place enough, it was just so peaceful and relaxed.
Only one downside was the drive, very steep and we found the best way to get up or down it in our underpowered hire car was for all the passengers to get out of it.
I would recommend this to anyone who would like to use this as a base to explore Cape Town, Constantia vineyards and Chapmans peak area

Excellent service with every convenience at hand!

Left on 12/15/2011 for a stay in December 2011

Plumtree Cottage is an understated home from home experience. You can choose to have full daily service or complete privacy or any blend of the two.
Security Safe, Trellidoors and alarm system - even while you sleep if you are concerned but I found no need as their is access control to the property and staff available 24/7.
      For leisure:
TV with a nice selection of Dstv channel, portable radio, cassette, CD playe, private patio with sunken coldwater jacuzzi type splash pool to keep cool while tanning. From here you have glimpses of the mountains and a large umbrella as well as enormous forest Pine trees provide shade. Reclining chairs for tanning (swimming towels are provided. Also on the patio - abrick bar-B-que with wood and firelighters provided and an outdoor table and chairs should you wish to eat outside.
The bathroom has a bath and glass enclosed shower liquid soap and shampoo as well as bath salts - plenty of white cotton towels.
Recessed lighting throughout the house with most of it dimmable.A front covered deck with outdoor table and chairs for outside dining even while watching it rain.
Open plan lounge dining room kitchen. Lounge with oveversized comfy furniture, and a sleeper couch sliding doors to your deck.
The kitchen has it all! Dishwasher, full stove, grill m$icrowave and full size fridge/freezer and washing machine. Tumble-dryer service is also included but not in the cottage. Even a coffee plunger is there for you convenience.
This is the place that I come for a holiday every time that I can. It is in non-cosmopolitain Hout Bay on the mountainside and the area has all shopping for the home nearby. The rest of what the Cape has to offer is also within half an hour or so by car.

All in all - my absolute favourite place to stay!

Left on 11/17/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My husband and I needed a gettaway and stayed at 3 Plumtree Cottage in July. We had a wonderful stay - so peaceful and quiet and we were both surprised at how spacious the Cottage was.I was very impressed with the value for money - and the Kitchen was really well equipped which suited me as I love to cook!
We spent many romantic nights by the fireplace

Jessie was a star and really looked after us - cant wait to go back

      enjoyable

Left on 11/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011

The cottage is very confortable with lots of space and well decorated. The kitchen is modern and equipped with everything you need. There was wood available to make a fire in the chimney which added a worm feeling during the cold evenings. The service was also excellent and very friendly.
The location infortunately is not so good because of the proximity of the squatter camp ! During our stay, there was a burglary in the villa, in spite of all the security and this unfortunate event created a bit of stress. Moreover, after the burglary,Alexander, thinking that there was nobody at home, came in the middle of the night with the security gard to check if eveything was OK in the cottage and his unexpected interruption in my room gave me a big fright ! Apart from this, our stay was really enjoyable.

Response from Jon Lown - 11/21/2011

      Jon Lown

      Owner

      Hi Suzanne
I am sorry that you had a negative experience.
As it turned out the burglary that you refer to was an inside job where we were using a new garden service. One of their workers disabled our gate lock and cut wiring to one of our outside sensors.
This enabled easy entry to the property.
We are insured against this and refunded the guest for the few items that were taken.
While there are ongoing issues at Izizamo Yethu, it is primarily not a squatter camp - it is a fully fledged suburb for many of the residents of Hout Bay.
We are close as the crow flies, however there is an entire suburb between us - Hughenden - and we are situated in a small cul-de-sac which is extremely quiet with very little criminal activity.
The crime rate in Hout Bay is no different to other affluent Cape Town suburbs. We take precautions to ensure the safety of our guests at all times.
We would like to offer you a free weekend in either the Cottage or Villa as would love to provide you with another opportunity to enjoy Plumtree.
      Thanks
      Jon Lown

      SUZANNE RESPONDED

      Hi Jon,

Sorry if my review was not as enthusiastic as I would have liked it to be.

We really were impressed with the comfort of the cottage and the great service provided by Jessie.
Thank you for your information about the burglary.
It is a pity that this event happened at the end of our stay and left us with a mixed impression.

We are French speaking and my command of English does not allow me to express my feelings as accurately as I would like but all in all our stay at the cottage was really great and we love Hout Bay.
It was , for me, the opportunity to spend some time with my daughter who lives in the USA. She came to Cape Town for her work and afterwards, she took one week holiday. She was staying with her husbands 'family who lives not far from your cottage and it was very convenient for both of us.

Thank you for your generous offer to spend a week-end on your property. I would go there again with great pleasure.
      Best regards
      Suzanne JASON
