Don't let the word "compound" mislead you - Vintage East is a gorgeous, impeccably-maintained property that just happens to feature multiple houses. I went last weekend for a writer's retreat organized by a friend, and everyone was extremely impressed with the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings and accommodations. And every single person commented on how friendly and helpful the owner, Frank, is. From showing us city folk how to work the gas grill, to providing us with a bucket full of delicious summer squash from his garden, to inviting us to gather fresh eggs from the guinea hen's cage, Frank's friendly advice set us up for an amazing weekend of s'mores, walks, and playing word games on the porch under a full moon. My takeaway from my stay at Vintage East was twofold: 1. I'm definitely coming back as soon as possible (it would be a great place for several generations of family to stay, each with their own space), and 2. The owners of Vintage East have clearly put a lot of thought and work into making this place as wonderful an experience for their guests as possible, anticipating every possible need and going the extra mile. I've already gushed about it to friends and I'll definitely be back.
