Left on 03/05/2012 for a stay in February 2012
My fiance and I stayed at this rental for one week in February. We are already checking our calendars to see how soon we can return. 45 minutes from San Juan, and remote enough to really unwind.
Fantastic location. We were probably 40 yards from the pool and hot tub. Both of which were virtually empty every day. Our view in the back faced the golf course, and beyond that was the ocean. The beach was narrow, but soft sand, and a cute tiki bar was right there. The tiki bar closed at night, so we didn't have to deal with any issues at bed time. It was incredibly quiet. I would guess that only 15% of the entire resort was in use. The villa had everything we needed.
I saw another rented who commented on mold and leak issues. I did not see any mold. There were some spots on the outside of the fridge, but I don't believe it was mold. There was some damage to the ceiling in the bathroom, but considering what I expected from the prior review, I was underwhelmed. It certainly wasn't hindering my experience!
The entire resort of Palmas Del Mar was gorgeous. 28,000 acres! We dined in several of the resort restaurants (all were good, but fairly expensive- like any resort), but also used the kitchen of the villa to make our lunches and breakfast. You can go to the Super Walmart, just about 10 minutes away and save yourself a lot of money on dining.
My only negatives were that the pillows were awful!! I should have just bought my own at Walmart, and probably will next year. I felt like I was sleeping on a package of diapers. The other negative is that we had some trouble with the cable TV, but Sandra offered to have her father talk us through the remotes. The Tv's were both older models, and not super big, I feel silly to mention them, other than my fiance and I like to watch tv before bed.
Everyone in the resort was incredibly helpful and genuinely kind. We made friends with all the security guards, and our waitresses in the restaurants. Humancao is right up the road, for anything you need. The rainforest is about an hour away (you must enter through the north entrance to get to the trails). -

ExeterYou will love this place.

I stayed here last april and my wife and i loved it. The beach is very close, just a one minute walk. The bar services food and is on the beach very close to this unit. The casino is just a few steps away at just under two minutes. A full restaurant and services are there as well. My wife and i ate breakfast on the front porch every morning overlooking the ocean and the Tee too the third hole on the golf course. There are many restaurants on the property all with incredible food at very reasonable prices from $15 to $25 for an entree. You can rent a golf cart for the week for $200 and that's the best and a fun way to get around Palmas. We are going back here again in 2012. This place rocks.

Palmas Del Mar is an impressive area. The drive from SJ was easy. However, this property was a disappointment, the customer service was lacking, and I paid way too much!
The property is dilapidated. Housekeeping had done its best to keep the place clean, but the problems go deeper than that. This place needs a lot of TLC. As soon as you enter, there is mold on the fridge greeting you in the kitchen. Into the living room, water damage on the ceiling. Bathroom featured a rusty dryer, and filthy stains on the door. More water damage in the bedroom, following by a truly disgusting master bathroom. Again, lots of filthy looking water damage. I won't go into details, but the toilet room in the master bath was scary, I kept the door closed and used the hallway bathroom (which, as described above, was pretty bad too). The shower was the worst of all. The overhead ceiling was peeling, revealing mold and rust underneath. Everyday, I showered terrified that a big chunk would fall down on me. Not a very nice vacation getaway, especially not at these prices.
Before we arrived, instead of answering questions promptly, the owner kept sending me payment reminders. That was the first red flag, but I had already paid the deposit. Oh, and rather than answer my basic questions regarding arrival, the owner threatened to cancel my reservation when I had not responded the last payment email. Nice. Also, the owner sent an email to me describing how to get gym passes after I had departed; I had an out of office message on, and the owner made no attempt to contact me by phone, even though she had my number. There is no wifi or internet at all at this property, and sketchy 3G service.
Overall, when we went, PDM was deserted. Kind of strange/spooky, but good for those who like it quiet (very quiet!). The beach was close by, but way too windy when we were there to enjoy it. The outdoor pool for the neighborhood was nice, but the jacuzzi only had cold water, despite the temperature gauge setting.
Back to the apartment. The arrival information procedures were confusing -- e.g. how to enter the premises, where the apt was, where to get the key from, etc; luckily the guards were friendly and I can speak Spanish.
Oh, and there was not even a map of Palmas Del Mar development in the house! We drove around looking for the shopping center and finally, the lifeguard at the beach club took pity on us and gave us a map. Wth? What does it take to provide free maps? Obviously the owner just does not care.
Neighboring Humacao is a dump. No restaurants of note. Restaurants in PDM were way overpriced. You're basically trapped there. The hotel within walking distance (Wyndham, formerly Four Points Sheraton) was kind of a savior. It had some life to it! Casino was lame, but the food there was good, service friendly but S_L_O_W. Drinks were great :)
Unfortunately, my cell phone's SD card was acting up and all the photos I took of this dump were deleted, but please, please, take my word for it. The photos on here already re not an accurate depiction of the state of this property (if you look closely, you can see in one of them some of the rest on the dryer though).
I am someone who has traveled extensively, and this property is just not worth the high price. Stay away!!! -

Most tourists that go to Puerto Rico run to San Juan, El Dorado, and Isla Verde. These areas are beautiful. However, they are over populated and very, very expensive!!!!! 40 minutes from San Juan, on the east coast of the island, you will find this beautiful Beach Front Suite. Located in Humacao, a beautiful historic town, this villa is 100 yards from the beach, 20 yards from two pools, and in the middle of one of the most beautiful resorts in North America - Palmas Del Mar. The villa is absolutely beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and very practical - with kitchen, two bathrooms, phenomenol master bedroom, two balconies, and elegant living room area.
I enjoyed my stay greatly. My daughter is in love with the villa and with Palmas. Ms. Sandra Garcia is a wonderful manager who was accessible for any questions and provided a great deal of support during my time in her villa.
Call her and experience your own paradise.

Relaxing...cozy...elegant...Perfect!
Our stay at this Palmas Doradas villa in Palmas del Mar was a true delight. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the balcony, the proximity to the beach, the pool and the hotel lobby; as well the cozy private feeling inside this elegant and confortable space. The fully-equipped kitchen provided the option of stocking up on essentials for eating and drinking. Beach chairs, plenty of towels, linens and other necessities like cable tv and dvd player were available and made us feel right at home.
Our stay was short but extremely sweet. We definitely plan to return, and we highly recommend it not only for all the great things we just mentioned, but also because the price is an excellent deal.
