    Additional Location Information

Curson's Cottage is located in the attractive village of Snettisham and is next door to, but private and separate from, the owner's own home; hence the high standard of care-taking we are able to provide whilst guests are able to retain their privacy. The cottage has secure off-street parking. Snettisham is a traditional Norfolk village, the centre being mainly built of the local carrstone. The fine church, dating from 14th century, overlooks the picturesque village cricket pitch. Situated two miles from the sea, despite being on the east coast of England the coast here faces west, so that the sun sets over the water. The village is on the edge of Heritage Coastline and areas designated as being of Outstanding Natural Beauty. North west Norfolk is an ideal part of the world for walking, cycling and family holidays, being within easy reach of miles of uncrowded sandy beaches, quiet country roads and footpaths. The area abounds with a huge variety of tourist attractions offering something for everyone and every age. There are several National Trust properties and other historic houses open to the public and within easy reach, not least of which is Sandringham House, a private residence of H.M. The Queen. There is a famous RSPB bird reserve at Snettisham and, with several other famous nature reserves such as Titchwell and Pensthorpe nearby, the bird and wildlife-watching opportunities in the area are world class. There are excellent pubs and eating places, with the famous Rose & Crown, East of England Pub of the Year 2012, within three minutes walking distance and many other lovely pubs and restaurants slightly further afield. Snettisham is easy to get to, whether by car or public transport as there is a rail link from London, King's Cross via Cambridge at King's Lynn and a regular bus service runs through the village and beyond.

Averil (the owner) couldn't have been more helpful. The cottage well deserves its 4* rating. Very well equipped, comfortable, private and quiet. We wanted somewhere close to the areas nature reserves which were all within an hours' drive, and we weren't disappointed.

      Perfect shared accommodation

Left on 12/21/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Having spent a wonderful week in the adjacent Fisherman's Cottage back in February, we were describing this to our oldest college friends ( 50 years ago )and said that it may be possible to take a well-behaved pet to Curson's. Averil confirmed this and sent a very reasonable list of requirements, which our friends' retriever satisfied. This meant that they and we spent a totally agreeable time in this very comfortable and well-appointed in every respect
spot. Although averil herself was going on holiday shortly after the start of our stay, she took time out to guide our friends on good local dog-walking woods and the best huge free-range beaches for exercise. All the first-rate facilities were ideal for two couples and we ate magnificently in the cottage ( the fish and other produce shop in Brancaster Staithe highly recommended ) and the Rose and Crown. One of the friends now converted by visits to some of the sites into a budding birdwatcher and confidently recognises bar-tailed godwits and twites. Next year it is just a question of synchronising calendars for another visit to this magical place.

We had a lovely 5 days at the cottage. Its perfectly situated and well equipped with everything you need. Our one year old loved pottering around downstairs and exploring - and we found the double bed comfortable. All in all a good priced holiday let which we intend to return to in the future.

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in October 2012

I was looking for somewhere to stay near the Wash, primarily to experience the spectacular flocks of waders which congregate to form large groups wheeling in the sky above the mud flats as the tide comes in. These are especially dramatic at the time of the highest tides. Also I wanted to explore the local area, which I had not visited previously. Snettisham proved to be an excellent choice to fulfil both these objectives. There are many nature reserves within easy reach, and also a plethora of lovely countryside, pretty villages and stately homes.

Curson's Cottage is a spacious, well presented cottage with one twin bedroom and one double bedroom. The stairs are quite steep and might be less suitable for those with mobility problems, but no-one else would have any problems.

The lounge is roomy and has comfortable seating. The decor is pleasant and the kitchen is very well equipped with a gas cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. The central heating and hot water system are efficient and would make it feasible to stay here even in the colder winter months.

Due to its location, the property feels very secluded, and there is a charming walled patio garden at the rear which in summer would be a delightful and private place to sit out, as it is not overlooked. Off-street parking is provided in the gravelled yard just beyond the patio gate, very convenient for loading and unloading the car for days out etc. It is a quiet location, yet is near to the a149 which serves the coast of North Norfolk. There is a local village shop and post office, plus an excellent fish and chip shop just round the corner.

The owner, Averil Campbell, is welcoming and friendly without being intrusive, and she has provided a great deal of local information about places to visit etc. which the new-comer to this area would find very useful.

I would recommend Curson's Cottage without reservation.

      Perfect in every way

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in October 2012

This quiet secluded cottage has old world charm yet features all modern conveniences. I stayed with my cousin for a week in the autumn. We found it an ideal base from which to explore this part of Norfolk with its wonderful coastal paths, nature reserves and stately homes.
Although adjacent to the owner's house this cottage is completely private with its own walled patio garden and ample secure car parking space.
The peaceful location was perfect because the general stores, chemist, post office and various 'eateries' were literally 'round the corner'.
Inside everything was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with efficient heating and water systems and modern kitchen appliances. The one downside from our point of view was the lack of a wi-fi connection.
The owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly but was never intrusive. We are planning to return in the future because this was a wonderful place for us to stay.

We were delighted with our stay in Curson's Cottage. It was light, bright, comfortable and cosy and made a perfect base for our first visit to Norfolk. The cottage is immaculate and extremely well-equipped and the private walled patio was such a lovely sun-trap that, if there hadn't been quite as much exploring to be done, we could have lounged there happily all day. Averil was friendly and helpful and even kindly offered to lend us her bicycles to explore the greenways around lovely Snettisham. Hope to visit again one day.

We had a truly relaxing week at Curson's cottage. The setting is beautiful and when you look out of the bedroom window at the red tiled roofs it's as if you're in France. We loved the picturesque 'giraffe' style houses in the area. The surrounding countryside is lovely for walking. When you sit in the sun-trap courtyard the goldfinches flit in and out of the bushes all around you. Averil is the perfect hostess - there when you need something but never intruding. We recommend it.

We have stayed at Curson's Cottage for varying periods over a number of years and through different seasons. It is ideally situated at Snettisham whatever your interests...dog walking, bird watching or just relaxing at the cottage or on the coast. Pubs, fish and chips and the village shop are only a stride or two away That the owner takes a personal interest in her clients and cares for her properties is evident. In winter it is cosy; in summer airy. At all times comfortable and relaxing. What ever the weather the sun always seems to shine for us at Curson's. We commend it. Ellie, our black flatcoat retriever thinks it is pretty special, too.

Sitting on the patio of Curson's Cottage on a sunny day you will really feel you're on holiday and your everyday cares are a world away! - the view beyond the roses and flowers of the cottage itself is of treetops and blue sky. The cottage is cosy yet comfortable and spacious and so even if the weather is not so great it's a pleasant place to relax - and as it's within the pretty village of Snettisham very close to the North Norflk coast there's plenty to do and see locally. There are two pubs, a small shop and a cafe in Snettisham within a couple of minutes walk from the cottage, and plenty more shopping within a couple of miles in the small towns of Hunstanton and Dersingham. Very tasty fish and chips can also be had from a small chippy just around the corner! You can pick up the coastal road only a few hundred yards from the cottage and there is an extensive network of small roads criss-crossing the local area to explore which will take you through pleasant countryside between the villages. Having had two holidays here a few years apart I would highly recommend it to anyone. Mrs Campbell the owner of Curson's Cottage lives adjacently and will ensure everything is to done to make your stay a thoroughly enjoyable one.

Cottage is situated in the centre of Snettisham and within walking distance of two local pubs both selling food. Cottage was very light and even on a dull day it always seemed as if the sun was shining. Loved it.

Having visited this cottage many times over many years we have always appreciated the warm and personal welcome which greets guests at Curson's Cottage. The accommodation is warm and comfortable, and the decorations, furniture and equipment are kept in good order and up to date whilst maintaining a 'cosy cottage' atmosphere. The private patio provides a sheltered spot for outdoor meals; even at lunchtime in autumn if you are lucky enough to have sun!
The location is ideal for all kinds of holidays, for families, birdwatchers, hikers and historians giving easy access by car, public transport or bicycle to the wide variety of local attractions offered in North West Norfolk. There is always something to do whatever the English weather brings - bear in mind though that this cottage is near 'Sunny Hunny'.
From our children being toddlers our family has enjoyed many busy and fun holidays staying in Curson's Cottage; now they grown up we are planning busy, fun and relaxing holidays there.
