  Beautiful apartment - 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, full kitchen with microwave, all brand new, A/C up to cooling the whole place, lovely balcony with ocean views for morning coffee and a pastry from the little store down the hill. Perfect for my wife and I and out teenage daughters. Did I mention only 60 euros a night? Owner picked us up at the bus station, after we took the fast ferry from Spilt, just 50 minutes. They got us a discount on scooters, which we used to explore the island, beaches, and events like the Lavendar Festival. The location is perfect - quiet residential area, 10 minute walk down to the harbor, or 20 minute walk to a great beach the other direction (get there before noon to reserve the lounges under your own private palm roof!), so it's close to the fun without having to listen to it all night long. Scooters are really the way to go - fun, easy to park anywhere, convenient to pull off on the shoudler when you spot a great little beach below. The husband here speaks passable English, very friendly and helpful - insisted on dropping us back in town on the morning we left. Be sure you check out Restaurant Vidikovac on the ridge road above Velo Grablje, a self-billed ethno eco-village dedicated to resurrecting and preserving the lavendar cottage industry on Hvar (locals say "Hwar"). The owner George served us himself, with humor and style, and we nearly foundered on the fresh lamb just off the spit, cucumber and pepper salad, rustic potatoes, one of their specialties, and a glass of the very dry local red wine - as George said with a smile, "You really should be having wine with that lamb . . . .". It was the kind of amazing homestyle food you hear about but rarely find. We will be back here and to the apartment and stay two weeks next time.
