You will be charmed by these authentic Cretan Stone cottages. Koutsounari Traditional Cottages is a traditional settlement rated A Class by the Greek Tourism Organisation, that combines modern comfort and tradition, facilities and artistic creativity of the past.
The cottages were constructed in 1976 and in 1978 have won the Europa Nostra Diploma for the fine restoration of abandoned buildings and their conversion into a touristic resort. In 2005 the cottages have been renovated.
All cottages have a private entrance and secluded terrace. Kitchenettes are well equiped to allow you prepair your breakfast and a light meal.

We spent wonderful two weeks in the cottages. Everything was just right: the traditional house with all those lovely details and great sea view was a perfect home for us (the long beautiful pebble beach with clear water, populated by very few people, was just a tree-minute car ride away).
We received a very warm welcome, with fresh flowers placed in the house and a little breakfast basket - and the whole two weeks the owner couple was very helpful and assisted us with their advice: nice beaches, places to eat or to shop.
Our favourite place for the two weeks was the great, large terrace. We recommend these traditional cottages to anyone who wants to spent some quite, relaxing days in a lovely environment.Response from Emmanuel - 07/31/2012

Staying at Koutsounari Traditional Cottages was the best decision! Ioanna and Dora took such good care of us and made our holiday totally stress-free. The house is absolutely beautiful, so carefully restored and every details thought about. And what a view! Thank you to the Madala family for a wonderful, wonderful stay!

My wife and I stayed at the Koutsounari Tradional Cottages to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I have to say, this is one of the finest facilities we have ever stayed in. My wife is an interior architect, and when we opened the door to our room my wife was blown away. It was breathtaking!!! The decor, the service and the ambience are all outstanding.
Words just can't describe the feeling we got there. The Mantala family, owners of the hotel made our holiday a stay to remember. The place where you can enjoy in comfort the sun and the sea and fall in love again. I recommend this place, a definite must! We are certainly going back for more...

I stayed there with a friend for a relaxing holiday. The cottages were beautiful and homely at the same time and the area had the feel of a 'real' traditional village. Attention to detail was obvious and everything was perfect, both in cleanliness and set-up.
The view was magnificent, especially from our little veranda. If you like walking I would recommend waking up early and walking up the hill near the villages - the early morning, the roosters, the locals waking up, it's a great experience!
The beaches and the city centre were only a short trip away by car but I think it was worth it for a chance to stay in these traditional cottages - you don't get the feel of the place otherwise.
The cottages had every comfort we needed and were fully self-sufficient: kitchen and cooking utensils, fridge, hair-drier... I don't remember needing anything that I didn't have.

The first time i came at Koutsounari Traditional Cottages, I was 4 years old, with my sister and my parents, and we all felt in love with the place.
We found here hospitality like nowhere else. The owners became our friends and almost familly.
We like, the fact that living in the cottages reminds you of Crete of other times. I want to thank Manolis, for the warm welcoming, Dora for her incredible traditional dishes, and their childrean (Ioanna & Andreas) for their friendship.

Donner notre opinion sur les maisonnettes traditionnelles de Koutsounari c'est d'abord dire que nous allons y retourner pour la trente cinquième année consécutive. Cette fidélité est la meilleure des publicités. Nous savons l'accueil personnalisé et sympathique que nous allons trouver.. Nous savons le charme particulier de la maisonnette et son panorama. Si la piscine et sa vue dominant la mer son exceptionnelles, la cuisine de Dora Mandalas l'est également.
En conclusion; la famille Mandalas, ses maisonnettes et leur environnement sont l'assurance d'un séjour hors du commun

we had a somptuous stay in this little house , the owner is absolutely charming and gave us good advices of places to go and nice beaches to rest!
the cottage is warm and comfortable, nice kitchen, typical greek decoration like a postcard!

From 1981 up to now I stayed in one of the traditional cottages almost once a year and I really love it.
I stayed with the Mandalas family with my mum, different friends, wanted everybody to see it.
The moment we drive from Ierapetra to Koutsounari it feels like coming home.
A beautiful house, olivetrees, oleanders,a terras with seeview and it's so quiet you hear the birds.
And we were very well taken care of by Mr. and Mrs. Mandalas.
It's very useful to rent a car because it is a small village in a quiet surrounding.
