Additional Location Information

Biscarrosse, a beach resort on the Aquitaine coast and third-largest city in the Landes county, Biscarrosse is divided into three different areas:the city, the commercial and business districts-the lakes-the beach resort area.
These three areas are nestled within the largest forest in Europe, the Forest of the Landes (1,200,000 ha of pine trees).
Biscarrosse is located within one hour drive from Bordeaux, Aquitaine's regional capital, and about an hour and a half drive from Spain.
The central square and pedestrian streets make the Biscarrosse beach an ideal place for families to walk around and go shopping. Most shops and amenities are open from spring up until mid-autumn.
During the summer season, the beach resort is bustling with terraces where you can dine or have a drink, enjoy live music, buskers etc...
Each day, there are new festivities for holidaymakers of all ages to enjoy, in biscarrosse beach.
Biscarrosse with its sandy beaches stretching along the oceanside, its clear water lake, its majestic pine tree forests, sand dunes and hills, offers a unique scenic panorama from the lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Biscarrosse is the only beach city on the Landes coast to offer such a diverse landscape.
The town of Biscarrosse is the largest of the Landes County, and two-thirds of it's land is covered by forest. Inland, two lakes are surrounded by the pine forest, making a total of 10,000ha of fresh water.
The lake of Biscarrosse/Cazaux/Sanguinet is a safe place for families with young children to enjoy themselves, with its shallow waters and a temperature, that can go up to 28°C.
Local Activities
In Biscarrosse, there are activities for all ages: Within its lakes and forests, visitors can take advantage of nautical sports, sailing, local adventure activities, horseriding,
cycling, walking golf and more. On the beach, visitors can enjoy relaxing, canoeing,
swimming, boating, windsurfing, or surfing.
Over 90 km of hiking trails divided into 8 different routes, connects the city, beach and lakes. For those who enjoy bike-riding, 40 km of cycling tracks reach as high as the Dune of Pilat, 15 km to the north, down to the southern part of the county, filled with verdant nature.
The beginning of air mail
Air mail basically started in Biscarrosse. Pierre Georges Latécoère, an engineer from Toulouse, created a new flight route, to connect Toulouse to Santiago, Chile. Latécoère decided to use seaplanes for his project, and he chose Biscarrosse as his homebase, due to its close proximity to his factory in Toulouse. In 1930, the assembling base was created, named after Latécoère, and test flights began. “La Compagnie Générale Aéropostale” (the French Air Mail Company) was conceived that same year.
Air France then began its first regular passenger flights starting in Biscarrosse and landing in New York City, Natal in Brazil, and the French West Indies. Several hundreds of seaplanes, one of which was “Le Croix du Sud”, departed from the lake of Biscarrosse; the greatest legends of the sky, such as Mermoz, Guillaumet, Saint Exupéry, Bonnot, Hébrard, and Jozan, flew those s
ea planes. Today, Biscarrosse is an international attraction for amateur pilots and other aviation fans and every two years, they host an International Seaplane Reunion.
Also to visit: The Church of Saint Martin, Le Chateau de Montbron, the museum of traditions, the Elm tree...
