Sun King 5 is what it is. You could not ask for a better location. Walking distance to many restaurants and entertainment. It is in a quiet place and if you go prepared for a non glitz stay, you will be happy. Yes, it could be a bit more updated and clean. The extra pillows were stained and had no other cases for them, a few cob webs in corners, and some light bulbs missing. some cosmetic flaws, but hey, you are right on the beach, it is quaint and vintage and wonderful neighbors. I personally overlooked the flaws and had a wonderful time.

My wife & I were in Indian Shores, Florida for March and we wanted to stay a week longer so we rented unit # 5 at the Sun King. We went through Waterfront Vacation Rental, Christine she was very helpful while we were paying and making plans to move in a couple of days ( Sunday april 1st). We moved in on Sunday and quickly noticed the place was in need of attention, half of the lights didn't work, dishes were dirty in the cupboard , smoke detector laying in pieces on the counter, pipes rattled and banged, coffee colored liquid on the toilet seat, and everything was worn out. I can put up with most of these complaints because of the beach location however when I went to bed the pillows stunk which really bothered , I removed the pillow slip and found my pillow was stained.
I called the rental office Christine from Waterfront Vacation Reality and she said she would have things fixed, the repair guy fixed the lights and smoke detector, we went out and came back later to find new dish cloth but no pillows, I called the office and they said the pillows were fine, I advised I could bring to her office and she hung up on me. I called back and someone new( Linda) dealt with me, new pillows arrived in a couple of hours. The place is a dump but a nice location. -

This is an older unit, which really needs some attention. We've stayed in older places before, but they had been kept up so it wasn't a detraction. This rental has mal/non-functioning ancient [and very dusty] blinds, broken window locks, old/hard LR furniture, a comical "valance attempt" in the LR [held in place with a variety of clothes-pins!] & one dish towel for an entire week! Things like that are easy fixes, and would add a lot to the overall appeal. The whole place would perk up & look fresher with just a fresh coat of paint on the old & dark paneling. Probably though, the biggest turn-off was being called & asked if "they" could show the unit to prospective buyers, then... having the owner stop by unannounced, to talk to me about it. To me, that's really inconsiderate and a big taboo. Finding out it was for sale somewhat explained the neglect/lack of updates. On the good side, the location is terrific, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean. Also, we had the pleasure of meeting the mascot...a Heron the neighbors call George ( :

Beautiful views and sunsets. Local area pretty but shops, bars, restaurants etc are a mile or so away so it's a long walk or a drive. Bed very comfortable but air con noisy at night. Kitchen is grim - we kept cupboard doors open to reduce the stale smells, the coffee maker had amazing rust (use hot water to fill it cos it can't heat up very well) but the Rust Prize goes to the fridge - rust over rust painted over - the property has been for sale for some time and the owner is also the management company and it shows! the mixed, cracked crockery wasn't too pleasant and showed the owner's lack of interest. The cooker was very elderly but the microwave was in good condition. The wall pictures were jolly and the small cottage did have charm but desperately needed a thorough clean and appliance update. There is a lovely sandy area in front with umbrellas and loungers then the beach itself. If you are happy to drive daily or fill the fridge and hibernate then Indian Shores is a lovely spot

The Sun King is NOT owned by Waterfront Vacation Rentals, the owner has been contacted about the things mentioned in the review. The A/C is wall units and is not as quiet as central air. There is one in the bedroom and one in the living room. Neither are unusually noisy though. The refrigerator, coffe maker and pots and pans were replaced in early December 2012.

The location was great, but the condo needed some updates. The air conditioner in the bedroom was so loud it was hard to sleep, the shower needed a new shower head, and the bathroom lighting was poor. While we were there the toilet started leaking all over the floor. We called the property management company and the did send a maintenance person right over to fix it.

The window air conditioner in the bedroom is almost brand new. The bathroom lighting has been changed and a new shower head is set to be installed. 7/23/12

We had a lovely stay at this apartment. It was just what we wanted with a location to die for. Dolphins swam by the apartment every morning so bring some binoculars. The whole area is clean, very friendly and felt very safe. The apartment is old and not as clean as some would like but as long as you arrive not expecting 5 star accommodation you will be very happy. We will be returning

We thouroughly enjoyed our stay at Sun King, and we loved the area. We would definetly want to rent the unit again. It was a cozy cottage type unit, great for two people but a few more can stay as well. It was right on the beach, and the area was very quite, which we enjoyed. I would recommend this to any of my friends and any other folks planning on a vacation in Florida. Way to go Sun King !!!

Having never been to Indian Shores before, we weren't sure what to expect. It was wonderful, and the fact that the beach was only two steps out the door made it even better. The condo was great. The rest of the residents there were very nice, and we had a wonderful time. We'd love to come back and stay again.

I would have given this place all 5 stars except for 1 thing. The TV did not have ESPN which just about killed my husband! I would give it more than 5 stars for location--it doesn't get any better! It reminds me of vacation cottages from my youth. We had a wonderful time.

Olympia, WAGreat location for relaxing vacation
Left on 12/30/2009 for a stay in December 2009
While searching for a beach cottage, I found Sun King #4. After reviewing the pictures, I could tell that the other half of the duplex would be preferable. Why? Because the entire side of #4 looks out onto a concrete pad connected to all the other units. Sun King #5, instead, faces some tropical plants and further away, the pool from an adjoining property. That means the blinds can be left open with no loss of privacy, which enhances the beach view. Unit #5 is less attractively furnished than #4, but by far the better choice. The only negative comment is about the sheets. Very poor quality, and the bottom countour sheet is so skimpy it comes off the mattress every night.

The location was great with many things to do close by. We loved walking out the back door onto the sandy beach. The living room furniture could have been cozier for those rainy days in, but when the sun was out and the weather was fine no one was in the house.
