Description from the owner
Situated within the small hamlet of Errogie in Stratherrick, with beautiful views over loch and mountain, the Old Schoolhouse has a wonderful atmosphere and is a perfect base to explore the Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness. Built in 1878, and a teacher's house for over a hundred years, the Old Schoolhouse adjoins the Old School (now home to the owners). It has been simply and tastefully modernised retaining much of its original character and sleeps four in one double and one twin-bedded room. A box-hedged garden overlooking the loch is for sole use of guests, while the rear garden, run as an organic small-holding, is shared by guests and ow...Read more

Additional Location Information
The Old Schoolhouse is located in the quiet hamlet of Errogie, in hills high above the southern shores of Loch Ness, with views over Loch Mhor and the Monadhliaths. Seventeen miles away, Inverness is within easy reach for shopping, theatre, cinema and leisure facilities. The area is rich in wildlife: pine marten, deer, red squirrels, osprey and divers are all seen nearby, while RSPB'S Loch Ruthven (for Slavonian grebes) is just down the road. With miles of tracks, quiet roads and forest, or the open solitude of hill and moor, there is plenty of scope for cycling and walking straight from the house. Why not fish from the loch shore, or visit Loch Ness and the Falls of Foyers via the ancient Pass of Inverfarigaig?
The area is steeped in history, from Neolithic hut circles to castles and battlefields, and the property makes for a good base to explore further afield: the sands of the Moray coast, Cairngorms National Park, the Caledonian forests of Glen Affric, Skye and the west.

Arcata, CaliforniaExcellent Stay
Left on 03/04/2013 for a stay in September 2012
Our vacation is over but the memories remain and one of the best is our family's stay at the Old Schoolhouse located in Errogie. Located approximately 35-45 minutes away from Invernes, the Schoolhouse offered a warm and relaxing rest from our days of sightseeing around the Inverness area. A wood fire was laid in the fireplace on our arrival and several bottles of local micro brews and fresh eggs were on the counter to warm us up both inside and out. The Old Schoolhouse is located in a rural area so you should expect to do some driving if you wish to tour areas like the Culloden battle site but the Old School house is an excellent place to just stay for three or four days and enjoy the quiet and charm of the local country side and read one of the books on the bookshelves by the fireplace or watch one of the well curated Dvds. The kitchen was well equipped as well and you can watch the local birds in the back garden while your pasta boils. The rooms were all clean, spacious and warm. The bathroom offered lots of room as well as plenty of hot water. The only minus that I can think of was the lack of internet access while we were there, this might change but if this is important to you, I would ask if it is now available. The Old Schoolhouse is really a place to get away to rather than a place to just shower and eat on your tightly planned journey. I should also mention that Heather and her husband were excellent hosts. All in all a great value and if we are able to tour Scotland again, we'll return to the Old Schoolhouse.

The Old Schoolhouse was a charming property , located in the perfect setting for a quiet retreat . The MacLeods really outdid themselves when it came to stocking the house with all the bathroom and kitchen amenities . They were extremely warm and welcoming on top of being extremely helpful as well . Our only regret was that we had stayed for only 2 nights . Would definitely return in the future !

We absolutely loved our stay in The Old Schoolhouse! The proprietors, Heather and John, have thought of everything to make their guests feel comfortable and welcome, right down to the locally-made soap. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a little care-package of local ale and biscuits. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were all clean and cozy, there were plenty of towels, logs for the fireplace, and a lovely back yard in which we could take our morning coffee. Our girls (teenagers) had a wonderful time discovering the fun games and puzzles in the sitting room. There were plenty of instructions on how to run the appliances, etc...and tons of information on things to do in the surrounding area, from local hikes to restaurants. Be prepared for narrow country roads, but they gave us excellent directions and we found it right away...my husband had a blast driving on those roads. Plus, the view of Loch Mohr is beautiful and the drive is certainly worth the effort...a much nicer stay than some of the more commercialized and less personalized places along Loch Ness, and I have to say, a much better value. We walked over to say hello to Heather and John, and they and their family welcomed us with open arms...couldn't have been friendlier, and were happy to talk with us about the area. Honestly, we can't say enough wonderful things about our stay there!

nyker, Bornholm, DenmarkMost charming holidayhome in a nice highland scenery
Left on 10/06/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We had five nights in this beautiful placed old school master building which is so well equiped and home-like, so we felt at home instantly. Everything is prepared so nicely by the friendly owners, and is was a perfect base for exploring the highlands. The house has its own view, and it could be a good base for just rest aswell.
The house has everything that is needed in kitchen, and the decoration of the house is done without disturbing the spirit of the 130 year old house.
Very little negative to say about it - in fact I cannot come up with anything. Simply the best selfcatering-holiday house we've ever met. -

A very tasteful, comfortable and well equipped eco-conversion (so its warm!) of a traditional highland school house. Amazing location, beautiful views across the loch in a very peaceful area, with plenty places to walk. This house has everything you expect from a holiday house, with a lot of unexpected (and lovely) extra details. More like a home. Can't wait to go back.

We had a wonderful time - this is a very peaceful, beautiful area and the house looks across to a lovely loch. The Old Schoolhouse is full of character and quality and eco friendly, and very comfortable- the Parrott family are very welcoming too. There are plenty of beautiful places to walk and this is a good centre for seeing the area.In all. I would highly recommend this as a great place for a relaxing holiday.

Left on 10/23/2010 for a stay in August 2010
This was undoubtedly the best holiday house we have ever stayed in - the house was beautiful, so well equipped and wonderful welcoming touches such as local beer and fresh eggs. The Parrotts made us feel so welcome and we have already booked again. Our teenagers loved all the outdoor activities there are to do! I would recommend this area and especially this cottage to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
