JedburghRelaxing Irish Christmas
Left on 02/12/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We arrived from all over the world for a family reunion Christmas. The cottage was lovely - a few quirks like no grading on the oven dials, tv that had a mind of its own but on the whole we had everything we needed and the owner was very welcoming and helpful. We were a party of 7, not sure the cottage would have comfortably taken more than 8 adults. The location is lovely - off the beaten track but within easy reach of all amenities. Donegal Town was lovely lit up for Christmas. We would definitely return and also recommend to friends. A summer stay would be good as we missed out on walks etc. because of the weather. Some of the party did venture down to the beach. They enjoyed their walk and appreciated the cosiness of the cottage on their return. Overall we had a great time in Donegal and then celebrated New Year in Dublin.

Belfast, United KingdomThis house needs help
Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Cottage very nice from outside and has lovely scenery and also in a great location. However there were a number of problems.
-Security: Windows didn't close, no locks on any doors inside house except front and back door. One of the windows in living room fell out whenever you touched it.
-Pests: Blamed for dead flies that fell off curtains and light shades, which had clearly been there before we arrived. However no vermin.
-Power: The ovens are the worst electrical equipment I have ever come across, and by the end of the week the food tasted like lighter fluid. Couldn't have two showers running at the same time.
-Privacy: None whatsoever. The owners of the house felt they could walk in (even before they introduced themselves) uninvited into the house whenever they wanted. They would also take items from our house, such as cooking and cleaning utensils and would not return them. No locks on any bathroom doors.
-Cleanliness: Some bedsheets provided had mould and blood on them. Also found out that the bedsheets that were provided to the houses came from a run down house on the premises which had a family of cats living in it. The cutlery holder was filthy on arrival. Barely any cleaning utensils provided, we were complained at by the owner about any mess made, we had to buy our own cleaning products, such as a mop and bucket, dish towels and a dish scrubber.
-Condition: House is in need of major refurbishments. There is mould and holes in the wall, as well as the paint chipping off. (The majority of these were attempted to be covered with curtains/paintings etc). The water from the shower upstairs leaked into the bedroom below, therefore we needed a pot in there every time we needed a shower. The toilet downstairs was broken on arrival, however we got the blame for it. There was also cracks in some windows, the door in the living room didn't have a handle- therefore had to use a spoon to open the door when it was closed. Window in living room would fall out.
The owner also told us that the house was in a bad condition due to students being there previous to our arrival, even though this excuse had been used previously (look at other review)
The owner also complained that she had to 'get the cleaners in' although isn't that what she was supposed to be doing?
-Entertainment: TV didn't have any problems except it flickered every so often. We provided our own entertainment.
-Location: Great location, 5 minute walk to shop and restaurant and 10 minute car journey to the lovely Murvagh Beach. Laghey town short walk away and the bars were decent craic. The locals were friendly.
Although the house isn't in great condition, as a group of young adults we had a great week, and weren't too upset over some of the conditions of the house. However we definitely wouldn't recommend this house to a family or older couple. As the past review said, this house does have major potential. Would seriously recommend that the houses condition is sorted out and you would probably get more business. Also the owners need to respect the tenants of the house and give us the privacy we deserve. -

186474Holiday Home From Hell
Left on 01/11/2012 for a stay in December 2011
On first glance, this cottage looks amazing. It is spacious, near to a shop, near to Donegal town, and seems good value for money if you travel in a large group. However, once you get there and enter house, your journey on the slippery slope begins. Below are the problems that need to be fixed:
*Security: Many of the windows in the house wont close fully, and 1 of them falls out when you open it (i know, shocking). This means you can't relax when the kids are in bed.
*Pests: The house is infested with mice. We had several sightings and woke up each day to find droppings in the kitchen.
*Power: It isnt possible to run all of the kitchen appliances at one time. i.e when you use the cooker, the fridge switches off. The trip goes off a few times per day as well.
*Privacy: None of the bathrooms or shower rooms have locks on the doors.
*Cleanliness: The bedsheets provided were damp and the valance on several of the beds had mould.
*Condition: The house was badly run down, holes in walls, broken lampshades, cracked windows. When we arrived, the owners gave us a spiel about having a load of students in the house the previous week and that they had wrecked the place. (funny how the price and description didn't chance accordingly)
*Entertainment: The pacakage includes TV, well, the TV is an early 90's 18 inch screen and you only get 2 channels which are too fuzzy to watch.
All that said, the place has major potential. All of the problems are fixable, but unless i was sure that these no longer existed, i wouldn't wish that place on my greatest enemy. I felt like i was in a 3rd world country. We had booked for 1 week, but left after 3 days needing to feel clean again. In the end we contacted the booking agent who refunded us a small percentage of what we paid. I am writing this review with honesty and also anger, our christmas was ruined. if i could advise someone on what to do in future before booking somewhere like this, i would tell them to check it out in advance if possible, and ask around until you get some feedback. if you cant achieve either, then don't book!
