      Family Trip

Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in February 2013

The Matterhorn was great and very comfortable for a large group. Rooms all had temp. control, the beds were good, and the kitchen was well stocked. Service when called was quick and pleasant.

Great ski weekend at the Matterhorn!

Left on 02/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Our extended family group rented the Matterhorn for a three-day weekend in January and had a fantastic time. The bedrooms are plentiful and roomy and several had bunk beds which accommodated all the cousins nicely. The kitchen has been updated and has plenty of room for several people to work at once. Our favorite feature was the two large areas for lounging--a huge sectional couch and bench seating around the gas fireplace. We all fit around the large kitchen table for meals and game playing, and small groups enjoyed the game table upstairs in the loft. Only downside was lack of snow so the adjacent ski run (Shotgun) was closed--but we know this is unusual for northern Michigan. We managed to ski anyway, and generally used the shuttle to get back and forth. The only feature that could be improved would be addition of a hot tub--the small jacuzzi was ok but could only fit two people at a time.

      Nye ski trip

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Matterhorn was great in every way. Kitchen was well stocked, beds were comfortable, and the place was clean. The only problem was that the ski run the house is on was not yet open. Apparently they decided to make show on the other side of the mountain first, so we needed to drive to the main lodge when we wanted to ski. Not the unit's fault, obviously...

Great place for a big group!

Left on 10/11/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Wonderful spot right on the ski hill! We hit the fall colors at peak. It was wonderful to walk out the door and see beautiful colors right there. The view from the top of the ski hill was amazing. The lodge was very comfortable for our group of 9. The updated bathrooms and kitchen were very nice and add a lot of comfort! We were a bit disappointed in the tiny one man sauna, but were Finns, we have high standards for a sauna. And the "hot tub" was a jacuzzi, also a little disappointing, but overall didn't effect our stay! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends!

      Pampered at Powderhorn

Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012

All of us staying in the chalet appreciated the updated kitchens and bathrooms. You are easily one of the nicest chalets on Powderhorn now. And each bedroom having it's own bathroom, pure luxury. I think that was most commented topic amoung us! Too spoiled! Your chalet is spacious, beautiful, yet secluded. We really felt we were away from the rest of the world yet could easily rejoin civilization in minutes, if we wanted to.

The only thing that does not make sense to us "older folks" is the sunken room by the fireplace. Not comfortable to sit in. I know the kids liked it the last time we stayed there but it really is a waste of space. Would be nice to have a little more seating room that is separate from the sofa.

Also, one of the boards in the deck has a big hole right outside the patio door. Not safe for old folks.

But would we stay again? Absolutely!

Comfortable relaxing & reflective family get together

Left on 06/09/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Overall we were quite impressed and pleased with the Matterhorn. Clean, comfortable, attractive & welcoming. Very nice common space. Only very minor complaint was a slow shower drain in an upstairs bathroom. In all, it was a lovely three day weekend stay.

Left on 01/20/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Very nice place. We slept twelve in the Matterhorn with no problem. Really liked the 6 bathrooms. Kitchen was spacious and we enjoyed the big couch in the living room.
The biggest downfalls were there was nowhere to get away from the tv besides in your room. We also thought the fireplace "pit" was a waste of space, otherwise nice place.

Matterhorn provided a great place to stay and to entertain friends and family during our vacation. It is spacious, quiet, private, and well maintained. We saw grouse and deer from the chalet.

We returned to Ironwood for a family reuunion and looked for a place that could lodge the whole family. For our family, it was perfect. With seven adults and five children less than five it was perfect. There was plenty of room for all. We will request this facility in the future.

      New Family, Old Roots Vacation

Left on 07/23/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The Matterhorn was certainly large enough to accommodate our group of five. There are bathrooms and bedrooms enough to accommodate a group twice our size. The design/layout of the house is perfect for group dynamics, whether to share meals, play games, or just socialize in the dining area & great room.

Our criticisms of the house are somewhat picky. First of all, the weather was unusually hot and since the Matterhorn does not have air conditioning, sleeping especially upstairs was difficult some nights. Several of the screened windows had screens that had holes/tears in them, so we didn't open them. Secondly, the furniture in the great room should probably be updated/replaced soon. The couch is showing wear, and the television set is outdated and small for the room. Also, we had trouble with the smoke detector going off when we used the jacuzzi.

My wife and I are from Bessemer originally, and we have been back many times, and we always enjoy the old, familiar surroundings. On this trip we brought along our son, his wife and their 7 year old daughter. My daughter-in-law clearly missed the a/C.

We have stayed at several of your other deluxe/premier properties in the past (Snowflake, Shannon, Fallview, to name a few). We were not as impressed by Matterhorn as these others.

Fantastic house for our large group.

Left on 01/11/2010 for a stay in December 2009

This was our 4th trip to Big Powderhorn and our biggest group yet; 8 adults 2 teenagers and 6 children! This house was perfect. Plenty of space for everyone and everything. The entryway had space for ALL of our wet/snow covered gear & clothing and was heated--so everything was dry the next morning! We loved how each of the 6 bedrooms had their own bathroom. The "hot tub" was more like a very large bathtub with jets, but whatever--it was nice to hop into after a day on the slopes. We usually take this trip in February, but this year we went over winter break in December, which I guess is kind of early in the season. So when we got up and saw that the ski run outside (Shotgun)was NOT open yet for the season, we were concerned. That's why we pay the premium price--for the ski in/ski out feature. After a few phone calls the first day and completely wearing out the FREE shuttle service to and from the house and lodge--Shotgun was open for business the NEXT day! The kitchen had everything we needed to feed the whole gang, mix drinks or whatever. Large dining table and bar stools at the counters meant all could eat at the same time. Loved the fact that someone came by to shovel the deck when it snowed because we used the outdoor grill that night. Great house and location (if you don't come up TOO early in the season).
