Great place if you don't require fancy

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Crossbow was a nice, rustic place that accommodated the 10 people in our group nicely. You can see the hill through the trees during the day while sitting in the hot tub. The master bedroom was tucked away and has it's own patio door right next to the hot tub.

      Lots of room!

Left on 03/16/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We stayed in early Feb. with 8 adults with room to spare! The kitchen was a bit small- particularly the oven/stove, but we made due, still nice to be able to cook meals. The hot tub was wonderful, even in a snow storm! The gas fireplace was nice, but didn't put off any heat really... a bit of a bummer when the heating went out for our last 24 hours and for some reason it could not be fixed, but the lodging association brought space heaters and offered an upgrade (moving 8 people's worth of stuff for one night after skiing for 3 days was just too much work). Would consider staying again because it is so roomy and very close to the hill for being in the village. We've stayed at 2 other houses and this is the only one that everyone had their own bedrooms and space. The beds were way, way better than the last 2 houses we've stayed in, in the village. Overall a great time and we will potentially consider it again next year for our annual trip.

      Roomy, nice, older house

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Crossbow is an older property but suited our group (5 adults, 2 children) just fine. Location is great, beds were comfy, outdoor hot tub was used daily, unit was clean and plenty of towels were furnished. Kitchen was well stocked. Most of us enjoyed the change to a gas fireplace (but some missed the wood fireplace). We found the service of the lodging office to be very helpful. Main complaint from our group was that there are no tv's upstairs. But we had a wonderful time which also included lots of snow, warm ski temps, and a small mid-week crowd on the daily-groomed slopes.

      Awesome - as always!

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013

The condo was spacious for the 6 of us, and the staff at Bpla is great. Someone even stopped and cleaned the snow off of our car the day we were leaving! If we wanted to, we could have walked to the hill, but it is too easy to call and have Teddy come and pick us up. I would definately stay at Crossbow again. The signs all over the house were hilarious!

Left on 02/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Second time in 3 years we have stayed at Crossbow, and both times were great. Easily fit all 10 of us in beds, which is always a plus. The outdoor hottub worked great and was checked every morning. Housekeeping was very quick to bring more towels when we called. Looking forward to coming back.

      Just "ok"

Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Usually when we stay with Bpla we stay in the top rated chalets and we have never been disappointed. Crossbow is only a "Delux" rating and you can tell. We thought this would be ok because the chalet really was a place just for late evenings and sleeping with most of our time spent at family events. It was very comfortable sleeping and some family members were very happy to find a fan in the closet just because they were used to having that type of background noise at their own home. The chalet had a musty smell and we needed to leave the windows open. The beds were very comfortable. The upstairs TV was found in a downstairs bedroom closet rather than being installed and availble. Wi-Fi was fast. Extra blankets for cool evenings in the living room were readily available. Biggest complaint was the color of the water - it was truly orange when we arrived and we had to run it for a long time to get it to light yellow. We bought bottled water to drink, but did use the water for showers and coffee. Finally, we did have a "critter" (probably a mouse) run across the kitchen floor while we visited the finally evening. (We understand that this may happen in any household once-in-a-while and left a note for the management. There weren't mouse droppings anywhere that we noticed so it can't be a big problem.)

      -convenient location
-good customer service over the phone
-front desk staff was less than gracious in person
-dirty chalet! There were dead ants and flies in large numbers on the floors throughout the home when we arrived, cobwebs in the corners, cigarette butts and scraps of garbage on the porch as well.

We certainly don't like getting these kind of reviews and we are sincerely apologetic about the issues encountered during the stay. We have resolved the matters with our staff. Crossbow remains a popular and nice unit despite this review.

      Good

Left on 02/23/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Good but not great. The Big Powderhorn skiing was excellent and it was the perfect place for 2 families worth of kids to ski for the first time. People at the lodge were OK but some absolutely lacked customer service skills. A couple were even mean to the kids. Food service at the lodge was very slow. The Crossbow house was good. It was comfortable in that the beds were nice and the linens clean and of good quality. We were disappointed to find no washer or dryer in the house and the hot water was very sparse. Fireplace was broken and attempts to repair were halfhearted.

Great Stay within walking distance of the lifts

Left on 03/18/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Overall our stay was great. Check-in was easy with friendly staff, even if it was late at night. The house was clean and warm when we arrived.

Our group jumped into the hot-tub right away. Again it was Clean, hot and ready to be used.

      The Sauna worked great.

The rooms had nice beds and plenty of room for our group of 6, I would guess ten adults could comfortably stayed in this same unit.

my only complaint was about the fireplace and it is a minor one. We had issues lighting it off because the directions weren't that great. However, the maintanence staff was quick to help. Even with the help the fireplace wouldn't stay lit. It seemed like everytime the furnace for the house kicked on the fireplace went out. Being that I'm a nerdy engineer I'm guessing either the gas supply to the area is not great or the pressure regulator to the house needs repair. Again, this was really minor to the whole experience.

I would highly recommend this rental and we're talking about coming back with even more friends next year.

Left on 03/03/2011 for a stay in February 2011

The chalet was spacious, clean and decorated very-well. Plenty of space for the 7 of us (spouse and children 17 and up).
      Improvements:
We couldn't get the chalet temperature above 67 degrees F during a single digit temperature stay.
Although showers were spaced apart, cold showers were not avoidable.
Could not operate an electric skillet and a toaster at the same time.

      Outdoor Hot tub!

Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We have been coming to Big Powderhorn for many years and have tried different chalets; and Crossbow was a great one. Even though the kitchen was small it made up for it in bedrooms. The addition of the outdoor hot tub, instead of the one in the basement, really was the highlight of the weekend. Our group will definitely be back to Crossbow!

We had a great time with lots of snow, the Crossbow was fantastic, comfortable and a good value. We enjoyed the touches of home that were provided, and the sense of welcome. There was plenty of sleeping space, the cabin was warm, and the hot tub was wonderful.
Bring your own drinking water as the water in the up has a bit of iron.

      Disappointed former western Yooper

Left on 08/12/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Although it was my choice to stay at Crossbow, I have to inform you that I was very dissatisfied.
You have Crossbow listed as a Deluxe or a Premium unit, I don't recall which, however, I have to argue with your opinion of the quality of this chalet.
First of all it looks like a dump from the outside. The inside is worse. It is run down and should have been fixed up years ago.
The toilets were filthy. We had to vaccuum the entire place. We found cut toe nails in the carpet.
The upstairs shower was not adequate forcing everyone to use the very small bathroom down stairs.
The front deck is also in need of repair.
I don't mind paying top dollar for things, but this was ridiculous.
My brother paid near the same amont as I and his place was 1000% better than ours.
Crossbow listed as a Deluxe or Premiun chalet? No frickin way.

Left on 03/03/2010 for a stay in February 2010

I stayed at the Crossbow cabin with nine of my other friends, and had a fantastic time. After we got back to Chicago, several of my friends have told me that they wish they were still up there. The cabin is very nicely equipped and is decorated to make you feel like you're exactly where you should be; a quaint cabin in the upper peninsula. The people working the front desk at the Lodging Association were full of smiles and very pleasant, and the cabin was all we could've asked for. The living room was spacious, the cabin wasn't cramped, and the bedrooms were comfortable. We're going to be back next year, but we're planning on bringing even more people with us then! Thanks for a great time.

      Crossbow good times

Left on 01/20/2010 for a stay in January 2010

We did enjoy Crossbow and it's proximity to the ski hill (just a half block). However we did have some issues..the oven was very hard to get going (we actually had to get on the floor and mess with the knob in order to get it to light. Also, the stove only had "off" and "high", so a little difficult to adjust. Finally there was some leaking into the downstairs bedroom. Overall we had a great time, it just would have been a little nicer if we didn't have to deal with these issues.
