      we will be back

Left on 09/29/2012 for a stay in September 2012

A real gem. Occasionally you are lucky enough to stumble upon a place which stands out from the rest. Villa Ravino is one of those places in so many ways.

From the point where Luca kindly picked us up at the dockside in Forio , to the where he dropped us off to catch the ferry at the end of our stay we had a wonderful time. Almost everyone staying at the Villa had been there before which is always a good recommendation.

Our room was light, cool, and comfortable. No aircon but instead almost silent punkha fans provided a light waft of air. Much better than listening to noisy aircon units all night. Shutters kept out the hot sun while we were out but easily opened when we were in.

our room (12) had a balcony with table and chairs and a view of both Sea and the Garden as well a comfortable indoor seating area.

The small kitchen contained all that we needed (ample for drinks and snacks). full scale catering would be a bit more challenging but possible. A good sized refrigerator kept the drinks nice and cold.

The bathroom had everything required and the shower worked well. At some point in the future a few new fittings will be needed but everything was very clean.

on the rest of the property there is a spa area with steam room and gym, a thermal pool and a good sized outside pool deep enough to have a proper swim in. There are several separate sunbathing areas with sun loungers and umberellas supplied. The roof terrace in particular had an extensive view of Forio, the Sea and the Sunsets as well as views of the volcanic mountain inland.

The Garden is a real labour of love, very well maintained, and contains some huge Cacti. Guests have unlimited access even when it is closed to the public and it has intimate seating areas where you can just sit and take in the view. There is also a snack bar that would put some restaurants to shame serving reasonably priced drinks and snacks at pretty tables in the garden.

Things not to miss near Forio. Take a trip to the Walton Mortadella Garden. Ravino cannot be beaten for Cacti but Mortadella has the rest, including amazon water lilies and classical music concerts, in a garden that has inspired garden designers worldwide.

Overall Ravino is very good value, amazing value when all the included extras like the Spa and Garden are taken into account.

Had a realy great time here

Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in September 2011

Although thoroughly reaching and reading many a great review before going to villa Ravino wasn't prepared for what we actually got. There where so many little and big great things that impressed us that I lack the time to write them all down. So I'll concentrate the Highlights.

      • The main attraction is of course the botanical garden not only is it beautiful is itself, but also it has a café where you can start of the day in a very atmospheric way. Some time there is live music in the evenings which makes the already enchanting garden a magical way.
      • The setting of the villa Ravino could not come better of a romantic writer. It is placed on a steep slope the a Mountain lingering over it to the east the botanical garden in front of it followed by a bay with a light tower high up on a cliff. We sat every day outside enjoying the sun sets.

The hospitably of the family Dambra and the guest which are mostly regulars was very hearty and we felt like part of a big family.
A thing that is not mentioned but is definitely a highlight both the cool and warm pool are filled with hot spring water and also there is a hot steam bath powered by these.

I am normally a matter of fact person and not get easily carried way.

The only thing one could really criticize is that the rooms a fitted a bit old fashioned and could use some renovating, but I am sure if this happens prices really shoot up and one is getting more than equal the value for the price at it is already.

I highly recommend to visit the Restaurant Trattoria da Peppina it very romantic place and I never have seen something similar. I visit here early in the holiday because I am sure you would like to go more than once ;)

We also very enjoyed our trip to Sant'Angelo very nice fisherman village.

We stayed in Neapels a few days prior going to Ischia and toured the pizzerias.

We liked the Pizzeria Starita the best. It seemed to be frequented only by local was by far the best experience and taste for us.

Brandi (romatik) the pizzeria was invented here.
L'antica Pizzeria Da Michele is said to have the best pizza in town.
