manchester, EnglandThe best apartment for family, location and amenities
Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I have been visiting Ischia for the last 15 years as my wife has family on the island and this apartment has been the best place i have stayed in. it is ideally located close to the beach and a short walk to shops and restaurants. It has amazing views of the castello from the terrace and the sea. The apartment itself was extremely well thought through, modern and spacious catering for all ages. There was books for children and adults, childrens games, cards, chess, beach toys, beach bags, beach towels and pool caps etc. The apartment was well stocked with pasta, coffee, olive oil toiletries, first aid, fans etc. Anything you could think of needing it was there, Basically it was home from home. The neighbours were very polite, what we saw of them, one of them actually offered us some lemons off his tree!! We will definately be returning to this apartment.

Everything was just perfect. Could not have asked for a better place to call home, for our week on the island of Ischia. The owners were simply terrific to work with. Everything was so well mapped out for us to follow. We loved the location, size and comfort of the home. We definitely would love to stay in Casa Mattera in the future. Thanks for a memorable trip.

Sydney, AustraliaGreat for Spring or autumn
Left on 09/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Pros:
-Awesome location, perfect.
-Amazing views.
-Plenty of space
-Fab terrace
-Ischia is a wonderful place
Cons:
-No fly screens on windows, so either mosquito bites or get very sweaty.
-No air con and we had a heatwave so bedroom was over 30'C at night,
even with the windows open
-Kitchen is not user-friendly and was a bit grubby.
-Beds were very very uncomfortable. Camp bed springs with bouncy mattress on top.
-Quite noisy at night with lively neighbours.
-Feels a bit 'un-loved', doors wouldn't close properly, hinges falling off things etc
Summary
Love to go again, but would choose a different time of year. -

We stayed in this apartment for 2 weeks, we felt completely independent and safe. Amazing views, lively and friendly neighbours. Food shops and beach are less than 10 minutes walk, and the owners are very helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back again and again.

New York City, New YorkA little bit of heaven in Ischia
Left on 05/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011
This lovely apartment is the place to stay in Ischia. The owners were very easy to deal with, gave good directions and key instructions and the apartment was spotless and as advertised. The location can't be beat - a bit of a walk from the ferry dock but also a short taxi ride - very near shops, restaurants and the beach. The view from the large terrace is stunning and this would be a great getaway for a family or small group of friends. If you're going to Ischia, stay here!

USAAmazing!!!
Left on 11/17/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Ok!! i got a chance to visit this little slice of heaven a couple months back and boy oh boy did it exceed my excitations. 1st off the pictures of the house did it no justice (big), Ive been all over Italy for the past decade and hadn't seen space like this (patio is amazing). The island itself has the perfect balance of old and new Italy, lots of sights to see and things to do. Theirs a slew of restaurant, bars (Friends a+) and cafe's in walking distance of the villa. The best part about it was it wasn't touristy, I think that I was 1 of maybe 10 americans on the island, which gave me a chance to really immerse myself in the culture. this place ranks at the top of my list, and is definitely worth a stay.
Ps great local winery's on the island a++. -

I spent a week at Casa Mattera, and it wasn't nearly enough time to experience everything the island of Ischia has to offer. Casa Mattera is only a fifteen-minute walk from the port, and even closer to all the shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment you will need. The food is delicious, the house wine is excellent, and the people are friendly and helpful, even if you barely speak a lick of Italian. Casa Mattera is a stone's throw from the beach and from Castello aragonese, which makes for an incredible, picturesque day trip.
You can spend an entire week exploring the towns on Ischia, including Forio, Sant angelo, and Lacco ameno, but it is also an easy enough trip to visit Capri, Sorrento, Pompeii, and Naples. The moment we got back from our trip to Casa Mattera, we already began making plans to get back.
My vacation at Casa Mattera was my first trip out of the country, and it will be nearly impossible to top. -

Left on 10/06/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Traveled to Italy with spouse and another couple... Casa Mattera was the last leg of our tour through some of the hot spots in almalfi Coast. The island retreat was a welcome stay after the hustle with tourists in Rome, Positano, Sorrento & Capri. The island was a little more quiet at this time of the year (mid-Sept.) and we were able to appreciate the local vibe. The house was super convenient to sand beaches, restaurants and shops. It is also located within a residential complex, so truly more of an authentic Italian lifestyle experience. The balcony offered spectacular views of the ocean, the famous castle and a really cute dog that hung outside an upstairs window across from us. Great spot to sit back and enjoy the local wines. Casa Mattera was well stocked with all the necessities... beach towels, bags & umbrellas were a nice touch as well as the large number of guide-books and local references.

A slight hiccup finding the apartment and the key, more my fault than the owners, directions look different transferred from paper to reality. There is a lot of stairs, 48 to be exact but worth the climb when one is sitting on the balcony and enjoying a meal with the most amazing vista spread out in front of you. We ate most of our meals out there even when it rained, there is a covered area on the balcony. The apartment was well furnished, spacious, clean with all instructions contained in a manual which directed us through the various steps. Everything seemed to be covered from how to operate the washing machine, sandwich machine etc to what to do and see and how to use public transport. An ideal base for two families to explore the island of Ischia. It is centrally located within easy walking distance of the castle, the beaches etc and there is a bus service almost outside the door. Staying at Casa Mattera made us feel more like residents than tourists. We would love to return.

Left on 09/14/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We stayed at Casa Mattera for two weeks in mid to late June in 2010. I went with my boyfriend and two other couples. Getting there was easy and the owners provided detailed info and very communicative. The apt. was exactly like the photos. The living room/dining room was big w/doors that opened up to a large porch overlooking the beach, neighboring homes, and Castello aragonese in the distance. The view from the porch was scenic and gorgeous and everything you would expect being in Italy! I mean--you have a view of a 15th century castle from your porch-- how cool is that?! The kitchen was fully equipped and stocked w/everything you need to make food as if you were in your own home. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twin beds, armoire, and a small futon. The master bedroom was huge w/oversized and ceiling-high armoires. There was a matching dresser across the king sized bed and the window provide a nice breeze. The 3rd bedroom is the smallest room w/a twin bed but had a private balcony. There is no aC in the apartment but there were plenty of fans to keep the place cool especially w/the windows and doors opened. We had a great stay at Casa Mattera! The apartment was fully stocked with everything you need from kitchen needs to linens. It was comfortable and beautifully furnished. Everything is labeled and there were games and books to keep you entertained. Its location on a main street on Ischia meant that everything was within walking distance. We were close to the beach, grocery store and to the best shopping, restaurants, and bars. Literally, all you had to do was step out of Casa Mattera walk 5 minutes and you are there at the heart of shopping, eating, drinking, and gelato! Overall, all of us had a wonderful time! Casa Mattera provided a nice slice of Italian life on Ischia. It's a beautiful and very spacious apartment with all the amenities you would have at home, really made the trip affordable. We would go back in a heart beat and would recommend!

Left on 09/10/2010 for a stay in August 2010
This apartment is located close to everything you will want to do in Ischia. Whether it's going to the beach, or getting on a bus to tour the island, everything is just a 5 minute walk away.
We were minutes from the beach and great food. You do have to walk up to the apartment, but the reward is the unobstructed view of the water, the Islands of Vivara and Procida, and the on a clear day, the bay of Naples. It's literally a million dollar view.
The apartment is clean, well kept and organized. If it's not there, then it's just a phone call away.
Ischia is not quaint and commercialized like Capri. It's a different experience. There are many more locals than tourists. You're as likely to get a good show from the locals as you will from the tourist sites.
I highly recommend staying at Casa Mattera.

I really felt like I was living in "authentic Italy" because most of the other tourists on the island were Italian and the entire apartment complex and neighborhood captured the local atmosphere. Being in walking distance of both the port and the castle was fantastic. Casa Mattera was incredibly spacious and had a gorgeous view of the water from the balcony. The rooms were clean, nicely decorated, and equipped with all of the amenities we needed. Can't wait to visit again!

Arriving at Casa Mattera on the island of Ischia is like being transformed into another time. The Villa is so charming with a sprawling balcony with a view of the bay ... it has a cook-in-kitchen ... room for all to do their own thing ... shopping and restaurants close by ... Casa Mattera is located in a neighborhood setting to give you a true flavor of Italy ... you will definitely feel like you are becoming an Italian ... you just can't help yourself ...

Left on 06/17/2010 for a stay in May 2010
It would be nearly impossible to find a better location to enjoy a blissful vacation on Ischia.
This well maintained villa is just steps from beach, restaurants, and the mythical Castello aragona. The villa itself is submerged in an authentic Italian community inhabited by island natives. I have yet to meet a nicer group of locals anywhere in the world!
From the moment you walk into Casa Mattera, you will feel right at home. Grab a bottle of vino on the way in from the port, relieve yourself of the suitcase, and enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the ocean on the spacious and picturesque terrace!
Casa Mattera's accommodations made this unforgettable vacation 100% hassle-free. I can't wait to visit again!

For the independent traveler, Casa Mattera is a fantastic choice. The location, within walking distance between Ischia Ponte and Ischia Porto, is absolutely perfect. Incredible views of the sea and Castello aragonese from Casa Mattera's terrace... wow. The large terrace is perfect for morning coffee, outdoor dining, relaxing, reading, catching rays. Friendly neighbors... very soon after arriving, we were offered lemons from neighbor Pietro's lovely lemon tree, and had offers of water, etc. from other neighbors when we discovered that the local market was closed that afternoon. Spacious rooms, good towel supply, and enough basics in the kitchen to make some lovely lunches/dinners. Ischia has a great bus system, you really don't need a car to get around. We went to the Pietratorcia winery, Sant'Angelo, Maronti Beach, all by bus. Can't wait to go back.

USA Wonderful Slice of Italy
Left on 06/16/2010 for a stay in May 2006
My stay at Casa Mattera was nothing short of amazing. Having visited Italy multiple times I had high expectations for my stay in Ischia and this wonderful little island surpassed them.
I enjoyed all the wonderful experiences you look for in Italy: great food (fresh seafood, Napoli style pizza) wine (the island has wonderful vineyards to tour) history (be sure to visit the Castello) climate (beautiful beach nearby) and nightlife (many fun bars & clubs.) With the exception of the wineries, all of the above are within a short walk of Casa Mattera.
To be honest, you could have a wonderful vacation without even leaving the Casa. The spacious terrace offers wonderful views of the water while the ample kitchen provides you with everything you need to prepare your own Italian feast.
Most importantly for me, Ischia is not overrun with tourism. It allows you to immerse yourself in the island culture and it really gives you the feel of being a local.
Allora… I'll definitely be returning to Casa Mattera! -

Vacationed to Casa Mattera for 7 days. This was a excellent amount of time. This is a great spot whether you are looking for having a relaxing vacation or some action packed sight seeing. There are plenty of things to do on Ischia as well as many great sights a quick boat ride away.
Island provided a great cultural experience, you feel less like a tourist and more like a member of a great community. Wonderful Cafes, restaurants and the beach are all minutes away.
We enjoyed frequenting the local fresh food stands and preparing food in the kitchen. Having a full kitchen at the house is was a excellent way to stay on budget.
The highlight of this house was the outdoor terrace. We spent many days and nights enjoying the wonderful sights of the Mediterranean.
Overall great vacation, would absolutely go back. -

Casa Matera is better than anything I expected. The location is by far the most remarkable part - we were less than a 5 minute walk from the beach, grocery store, coffee shops. etc. You are surrounded by quaint, local restaurants, shops, and bars. Most things are very accessible by walking and having a car would be more trouble than benefit. The area is very safe and most people were very friendly and helpful, despite our extensive language barrier. The port is accessible by walking and boats to Naples come about every half hour. The view from the balcony of Casa Matera is indescribable. The local, authentic Italian feel of the Casa Matera is accompanied by a beautiful view of the ocean, surrounding islands, and castle attached to the island. A tour of the castle is a must when on Ischia - it is a short walk from the Casa Matera and incredible to see. The accommodations are very nice and comfortable. It is an incredibly authentic feel and exactly what you come to Italy to see and feel. I would go back in a heart beat. Thank you to the Casa Matera family.
