Portland, OROur favorite place to go!

My husband and I went there for the first time in 2007 and fell in love with Isla Mujeres-so much that we went back a year later and got married there! Casa La Buena Vida is a great place to stay on Isla; it has beautiful ocean view and is very conveniently located. You can easily fit two couples or a family of four comfortably. Even if you don't feel like renting a golf cart or scooter, you can usually go out to the street and find a cab within a few minutes (and it only costs a few dollars to go anywhere on the island). The house is fully stocked with all the comforts of home and is a great option if you're on a budget because you can buy groceries and make your own meals. All the neighbors are really nice as well and are very helpful if you have any questions while you're there. Just talking about it makes me want to go there now! It's the only place we'll stay when we go to Isla.

TXLovely little casa!
Left on 07/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We spent two weeks at Casa La Buena Vida on our very first trip to Isla. We were told that for our first Isla visit, we'd be better off staying closer to centro and the north end of the island, but we found the location of the casa to be just perfect. We loved the feel of being in a genuine Mexican neighborhood. Even got used to the din of roosters crowing, dogs barking, scooters zipping by, and people out and about, talking and laughing. Perhaps because we were there in low season - and it was so hot - Colonia La Gloria was not overly active during the day. It really comes to life after dark though, and the streets are full of active people. Restaurants and shops open, music blares, kids play and adults visit. That was really neat to experience.
As for the casa, we found it very comfortable for the two of us. We enjoyed having two bedrooms on the nights that hubby snored heavily. When we first arrived, we discovered a problem with the air conditioning in one of the bedrooms, but as soon as alerted Miguel (property maintenance/manager), he was on the ball and worked tirelessly to have a compressor replaced, giving us arctic air inside. (Much needed, since the heat index reached over 115 during our stay!) The casa is cute, colorful, clean and perfectly appointed. The palapa is breezy and a lovely place to lounge, read, nap. The ocean is directly across the road and we enjoyed collecting shells and just hanging out there and watching the waves roll in. From the casa it's a quick (and cheap) taxi ride to either end of the island. Of course, you can also rent a golf cart or a scooter - but we mostly enjoyed walking from place to place.
The only thing that would have made our stay at Casa La Buena Vida absolutely perfect would be if there had been a pool. Of course, we can't fault the casa for this; we knew there was none when we booked. But as hot as it was in July, a pool would have been a most welcome amenity. Still, there is an outdoor shower (beneath the palapa) where we cooled off regularly.
The casa was affordable and all of our needs were taken care of by the friendly booking agent and property manager/maintenance folks. Highly recommend. (In fact, I wish we were there again, right this very minute!)
