Stow, OhioHappy We Chose Casa Neza
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Neza. The location is terrific - in walking distance to some great restaurants (Seso Locos, El Veradero, Chuuk Kay) plus our favorite dive shop, Casa Del Buceo. The pool is wonderful and while the water was a little cool, it was refreshing after sunbathing or a trip to the beach. The casa is lovely and very unique - we were very comfortable there. The best part of the property is the privacy. The 10 foot walls, palm trees, and visiting birds made it feel like your own little oasis. There was some noise at night since you're in the colonia, but we closed the doors and turned either the fan or a/C on and it blocked out the noise for a comfortable sleep. Our one complaint is the fridge/freezer. The freezer unit is located inside the refridgerator and it was small. Just enough room for a few ice trays, not even a bag of ice, which was disappointing. With a patio / entertaining space like that, a larger freezer would be ideal. Not a deal breaker, but worth commenting on. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Casa Neza was a great place to stay on Isla Mujeres. Compared to several previous rentals, this was my favorite. There are some things you should be aware of, however.
First the good things: The house was spacious, well equipped, cool, comfortable and charming, full of interesting artistic and architectural elements. Generally speaking, it was in good shape and showed signs of regular maintenance and upkeep. The thing I liked best is that the five sliding doors on each level allowed for the house to be opened up to the outside. Upstairs, the wooden slat shutters allowed you to have the doors open for fresh air but the shutters closed for privacy and security. The first thing I did every morning was to open up all the doors. The kitchen was fairly well equipped. The person who cleaned the house came twice during our 10 day stay and the person who cleaned the pool came at least three times and maybe more. A gardener also came at least once. The location was good in that it was fairly close to downtown but well away from the bustle and activity. It is walking distance to several good and some excellent restaurants, and close to the big grocery store. There was a big bottle of water and ample supplies of other necessities like paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid and beach towels. The sheets and towels were a mixed bag, with some of them showing their age and others being fairly new, but I imagine that is a constant battle with a rental property. The pool was great to have. Overall, I think it was just as advertised. The owner stopped by several times and is a wealth of information about Isla Mujeres. The house seemed extremely secure and safe.
There are some things to be aware of. The stairs seem rather steep. One of our party had trouble with them, so I would probably not recommend this place to anyone with bad knees or balance problems. There is a railing built into the wall on one side, and lights at ankle level, which I really appreciated, but there was also a section that was open over the kitchen. The floor was made of an interesting stone--great to look at but rather hard under foot. I decided by the second day to always wear shoes in the house. So, I would not recommend it for anyone with bad feet. If you hope to prepare a lot of meals, be aware that there is no oven, only a stove top. The pool was wonderful but it never really got warm. I liked the fact that there was always some shade on the pool during the day, but it did keep the water a bit cooler. I was in the pool every day but several of our party found it too cold. There is a jacuzzi tub but it it was not heated and there was very little power to any of the jets, so we didn't use it. The showers were great--until the weather turned cool and rainy. The hot water is solar heated and so, after getting soaked on a trip to town, I was really hoping for a hot shower but found the water only lukewarm. And bear in mind that this is in a neighborhood. One of our party found the barking dogs, occasional loud music and construction sounds to be very difficult to handle. The first morning we were there, the most annoying barking dog woke me about 4:30 am and went for 45 minutes straight, by which time I could not get back to sleep. But, if the noise bothers you, you can close the doors and windows and turn on the aC during the night.
I don't think any of these issues are serious problems but they could be for some. While I thought this was a great rental, my friends were a bit more reserved about it. The only thing I think the house needed was a couple of hammocks and it would be almost perfect!! And maybe a palapa covered seating area on the roof. But that's just me. -

I checked lots of rentals in Isla, but kept coming back to Casa Neza.
Wow am I glad I did! The feel of your own oasis is evident from first entering the secure gate. Open up the large south facing patio windows and you basically have a swimming pool in your living room! The fully equipped kitchen allowed us preparation and dinning at our own leisurely pace. Close to very good authentic Mexican restaurants, a new grocery/supermarket, and only a short cart ride to the hustle and bustle of Playa Norte...the main beach. We did rent a golf cart, and may I recommend one with four forward facing seats, which we were able to park within Casa Neza's perimeter walls.
A surprise visit from Lorenzo and Heidi, the owners, was an unexpected treat.
This down to earth couple are often in the area or will have a local assist you in anything you need. They happened to bring a new mattress for our one bed!(not that it was really needed)
The pool was checked daily and the cleaning service with fresh towels every other day.
I just can't say enough about the place. If you are looking to be a bit off the beaten track in your own piece of paradise, then book Casa Neza, you won't be disappointed.Response from Heidi and Lorenzo Bouillet - 03/20/2013

Veronastunning house, beautiful island, excellent service !
Left on 01/29/2013 for a stay in April 2012
We have stayed at Casa Neza for almost one month. Easy to reach: every taxi knows the house by name or the unique red color. It is a stunning contemporary house, modern Mexican architecture, decorated tastefully with comfortable and practical thoughts of what you need to feel at home. It has a solar heated pool, tropical vegetation all around and wonderful views. Everything is clean and well kept , private, pleasant, relaxing and spacious with beautiful decoration of good taste and fabulous colors. It feels very mexican with all luxury.
Isla Mujeres is nice and safe, scuba diving and boating is gorgeous, the marina is close, the biggest reef with all the tropical fishes is here. After a tiring diving day, enjoy great restaurants at the marina or surroundings. Close to casa Neza is a supermarket where you can find everything and also a great deal of small shops "tienditas" always open.
We highly recommend Casa Neza to everybody who wants a great and elegant place for a Caribbean vacation with all comfort.
Thank you Heidi and Lorenzo and all the staff that kept the pool and house clean and working ?

Calgary, Alberta, CanadaThe best vacation we ever had!
Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We have stayed at the Casa for almost two weeks. My family and myself was overwhelmed by the stunning house and its contemporary Mexican architecture, settled tastefully on the site with a great pool a soaker tub, as well as local tropical vegetation. The environment is clean and well kept. The house itself is comfortable, private, pleasant, relaxing and spacious. The atmosphere is great and inviting. The colors are fabulous and fit well the environment. We have specially noted the energy saving features incorporated in the house. We congratulate the owners for their ability to design such a piece of art, as well as for being environmentally considerate!
The island is beautiful and very safe. There are numerous activities one can indulge in. The restaurants are great and we particularly enjoyed the great food at the marina and a little Cuban restaurant. The costs are also very reasonable. If one enjoys cooking at home, there is a large supermarket in the close proximity with great choices of food and a fantastic selection of wines.
We do not hesitate to recommend Casa Neza to anyone who really enjoys a great place and wants a great relaxed vacation! It beats the large and impersonal hotels, its crowds and lousy service.
