Whispering Pines Forest Retreat near Yellowstone

Whispering Pines is a large cabin licensed to sleep 10 people and set within two acres of dense pines in a subdivision off the beaten path. Drive about 45 minutes to the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in West Yellowstone, Montana.

You'll be enveloped by the tongue and groove pine walls and log exterior with a large wrap-around deck to appreciate the trees and wildlife and relax away from daily life. The floor to vault 30+-foot river rock fireplace is the highlight of the living room, dining room and second-floor balcony areas. Marmots, grouse, hawks, owls, and deer frequent the property. Bear, moose, fox, and elk sometimes... stroll the area.

Not found at most rental cabins in the area is an attached two-car garage. Above that is a bonus room which can provide days of entertainment options--foosball, lots of games for all ages, books of a wide variety, and videos appealing to family and those who love the outdoors and Yellowstone. Kids enjoy the "soft loft" in this room. You can close the door and maintain the peace in the rest of the home.

Island Park, Idaho, is home to world-class snowmobile and RV trails, fly fishing, river floating, etc. Nearby Harriman Park offers cross-country ski trails and summer activities also.

Layout details:

Main floor--

Master bedroom, king bed, full bath with separate tub and shower, 2 sinks, closet on main floor with deck access. Alarm clock, iPod player, DVD player, robes.

3/4 bathroom: each bathroom in the cabin includes a curling iron and blow dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, etc.

Livingroom with a wall of windows and the 30+-foot natural river rock gas fireplace, supplemental heater, two reclining couches, two reclining chairs, coffee table and assorted books, magazines, toys for kids, local brochures and travel information, gazateers, atlases, local history, and newspapers, and doors to the deck.

Open dining room with 10-place table and chairs/bench and another door accessing the deck.

Deck has 2 picnic tables, multiple deck chairs, 2 gas grills, children's bench, and the resident log deer.

Kitchen features the pantry, which is stocked with dry goods adding to the cookbooks, seasonings, electric range and oven, dishwasher, microwave, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with ice dispenser, most small appliances (coffee maker, hot pot, crock pot, blender, 4-sl toaster, 2 waffle makers, griddle, bread maker, baking and cooking pots and pans, 2 small indoor grills, iPod player)

Main floor mud room and laundry room, door to attached garage. Dishsoap, laundry soap, towels, rags, cleaners, basic first aid, paper products are provided. We have some jackets, sweatshirts, and headwear if you're not accustomed to the 6300 feet elevation cool mornings and evenings.

2nd floor--

Balcony area overlooking living room and fireplace with walls of windows to view mountain, trees, meadow, wildlife. Balcony area features leather relaxing/reading chair and ottoman, couches, desk, large table for crafts, games, puzzles, work (no! not work!), dated music system. Great quiet area for meditation, reading, visiting...napping?

Bear room: queen log bed, closet, large dresser, mirror, chair

Moose room: queen log bed, closet, dresser, queen hide-a-bed

Full bath

Buffalo room: full log bed, dresser, chair; loft with twin bunks

Yellowstone room: entertainment options fill this bonus room--foosball table, couches, chairs, open space, satellite tv, cd and vhs players, game system, books, board games, puzzles, large custom game table, floor pillows, iPod player, white board, "soft-loft", half bath, steps to garage.

New covered ramp entry to the front door, making Whispering Pines a little more accessible.

BLM land is nearby and public trails are easily accessible to explore the woods and mountains. Plenty of guides are in the area to help with your fishing, exploring, and adventuring. The St. Anthony sand dunes are a lot of fun and about an hour drive away. Harriman Park offers trails and history and nature. Warm River provides fishing and camping opportunities and a scenic drive to the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls. Old railroad trails are fun for hiking and biking in that area. Equipment rentals are available through Island Park, Ashton, Mack's Inn, and West Yellowstone. Look for the eagles' nest near the west entrance of Yellowstone. Ask the ranger at the gate where bears have been spotted recently. You'll likely see herds of elk and buffalo, maybe a wolf, coyote, fox. Check out the chambers of commerce, greater Yellowstone, and other websites to get an idea of activities and places to fill your vacation time. And don't forget to leave some time just to relax and enjoy the sounds away from the city and suburb.

Island Park, Idaho. US Highway 20 to Yale-Kilgore Road, west 7 miles to Arrowwood Drive to Lariat Road to cabin. Tough to locate on navigation systems: we provide detailed directions and a map.

Upscale subdivision with wooded acreages. Several other vacation rentals in the same subdivision. Off the beaten path, yet easy year-round access. Close to public summer recreational trails and winter snowmobile trails. Plenty of off-street parking at the cabin, plus a two-car attached garage.

Within a few miles of the Island Park Reservoir and world-class fly fishing on the north fork of the Snake River and Yellowstone National Park.

Fly into SLC International airport--about a 5-hour drive or domestic airports in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; or Bozeman, Montana.

  It was our honor to be able to stay at Whispering Pines, while touring the Yellowstone and Grand Teton region. Whispering Pines has everything you might be looking for as you look to enjoy your time away. The cabin is incrediable! We had 8 people in our party and this "cabin" had room for many more.
  
  We loved the furnishings and all the little touches that allows you to feel at home, while on vacation. You name it and it is there and ready for you to use. Our children loved the huge game room area, with their own TV and foosball game. There is a huge supply of books, movies and games that will entertain the troops during the down time.
  
  The kitchen has a wonderful pantry that is very well supplied to assist your stay. Everything is well marked and the owners ensure that you feel at home while staying in their cabin.
  
  We enjoyed eating meals on the wrap around deck, while listening and watching the wildlife that surround the cabin.
  
  We wish we had booked a longer stay at Whispering Pines, because it was simply the nicest place we have ever stayed on our many travels. We are already dreaming about our return visit to "our" cabin in the woods!

  "Peace and Serenity"

  I needed some time to relax and took my family up to The Whispering Pines cabin. We loved the garage for unpacking. From the moment of entry into it's knotty pine wood decor, we felt we found that peaceful cabin feel we were looking for. Each room brought more awes and excitement as we experienced the nicely decorated wood furnishings. The kitchen was furnished which made it easy to walk right in and start our vacation. The floor to ceiling fireplace was not only stunning and enjoyable from both floors, but soothing to sit next to and relax. Having a Gas BBQ available was great! Sitting out on the wrap around deck brought me that peace I was looking for. The bedrooms were all well decorated with their nature themes. The master was lovely and it had perfect access to the hot tub. One of our favorite places was the upstairs family room. This room offered us diverse entertainment, from Board Games, a DVD player and a Foosball Table. There was plenty of room for all our family fun. The outdoor fire pit would have added to our stay, but we just ran out of time to use it. I had a lovely time and told my children they would have to drag me away from there, kicking and screaming, in order to get me to leave. I had found the peace and serenity that I desired. Our family pans on coming back to this lovely cabin. Thanks, Charlene, for this great opportunity.
